New Hamas video of hostages

I'd be sincerely grateful if whoever reported my post could explain what caused offence. Was it the use of the word "Islamofascism"? What else are we supposed to call Hamas and its activities?

It's precisely this kind of heavy-handed censorship that worries me sick. How are we supposed to tackle the current situation if we are not even allowed to describe it in plain speech?

Or is there some other preferred terminology? Please educate me if so.

I'm sure all the people who cried "there was no rape" and "they treat the hostages well" will be quick to apologise. Especially the poster who started a whole thread about how the rape claims were "disproven" because some antisemite they follow on x said so.

I don't really have words to adequately respond to your post. A Jewish friend of mine said he had never felt that he had experienced antisemitism before but was utterly floored by October 7. He said it felt deeply personal for the first time in his life and it made me realise how profound this trauma is and how we must listen.

That's really bad @PurpleChrayn. I guess at times like these you really find out who your friends are. I spoke to a close friend who's dh is Jewish with family in Israel. She knew people murdered on Oct 7th. She doesn't hold the same views as i do but she is my friend and I'd always support her. Everyone just wants the people they love to be safe and secure.

A few of my non Jewish friends have been supportive but there is silence from so many others I am shocked. As for so called feminists, their silence is truly shocking as if it's ok for Jewish women to be brutalised in the manner that these young Israeli women have been/are being.

Yes, and there were plenty of posts on MN saying that most of the people who died on 7 October were shot by Israeli tanks and helicopters. The clear implication being that this was a false-flag land-grabbing exercise.

It beggars belief what goes through some people's minds.

I had someone on a media fb group telling me the hamas rapes were all actually carried out by israeli soldiers in disguise to discredit hamas.
This is the level of denial which exists because it is not fashionable or acceptable on social media to give any credence to jewish people’s pain.

The feminist group I used to be a part of hasn't said a word about this latest video.

What I tend to see is people paying lip service, in passing, to the horror of the atrocities committed by Hamas, all while insisting that Israel's response is disproportionate and that the IDF are "the real terrorists."

They flood thread after thread after thread with trauma-porn images from Gaza, go into gruesome detail about the suffering of dying babies, and copy/paste comments from social media and dubious news outlets without any analysis or comment of their own, as though no one else has access to the internet and they are performing an important public broadcast service. Sometimes I can't help wondering if these are bots working in Hamas's interests, although I suppose most of it is just lazy posters bouncing around in their echo chamber.

I was born shortly after WW2 and have always felt grateful that the Allied forces managed to defeat Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, etc so that I could live in a peaceful world. Now, fascism is raising its ugly head again in ways I could never have dreamed in my worst nightmares. I just worry about where it will end, or rather how it will end, or indeed whether it will end, given that every detail is picked over on social media in a way that would not have been possible with, say, the bombing of Dresden.

Every word of this. My networks are generally pretty vocal about stuff. Tumbleweed pretty much across the social media board on October 7th, 8th.....with a few honourable & predictable exceptions. My Jewish friends were too traumatised so I did not expect posts but everyone else is usually falling over themselves to set their stall out on any given issue. I contacted my Jewish friends after a small amount of time. Without exception they said a few non-Jewish friends had been in touch but mostly nothing. And nothing much has changed.

I haven't seen this reported anywhere but it sounds absolutely horrific. I can't even imagine their suffering, its utterly horrendous. I don't know why this isn't being reported on the news.

I saw it shared on twitter and have no desire to watch it, I can't even bear the thought of it. But I feel it should be reported on.

Plenty of people described 7th Oct as an act of resistance by brave freedom fighters, so presumably them.

By the people saying & putting on flags and banners 'resistance is justified' in direct relation to what happened on October 7th.

I honestly can't bring myself to watch it.

I notice that the screening of Bearing Witness at Cannes was cancelled at the last minute because of a security threat.

It's hard not to feel that Hamas are getting the upper hand, one way or another.
