Thanks @Efacsen

@TrickyRibbon any thoughts on the ICC seeking an arrest warrant for Netanyahu?

I was pleased to see that Labour accept the independence of the ICC, and also today I read that their manifesto will say they would recognise a Palestinian state as part of the peace process.

My thoughts are that it's up to judges to determine whether there's enough evidence for a warrant to be issued, not me. But if one is issued, I'm not naive or bloodthirsty enough to hope it means troops storming into Tel Aviv.

Efacsen · 06/06/2024 10:00

Why so rude? Seems pretty obvious that she's referring to the 2 or 3 pages of 'back and forth' between 2 posters that shows little sign of resolving the 'who said what' and what did they mean

Rude? I didn't know what the poster was talking about so I asked. I'm sorry you find that so much worse than calling someone a liar or saying they want innocent people to die or wanting a country to be invaded.

Keir Starmer expected to push for Palestinian state in Labour manifesto

Labour policy likely to irritate Israel, whose prime minister reacted angrily when Ireland, Spain and Norway officially recognised Palestine in May

Technical language? What are you talking about?

This is ridiculous. The spotlight shouldn’t be on a user for being unaware of the correct technical language to use, it should be on Netanyahu, who the ICC are seeking an arrest warrant for. Why aren’t people more concerned about Israel being governed by a blood thirsty criminal?

I didn't say I want it to be invaded.... I never want it to be invaded let me make that absolutely clear. I've read the quote of what you said back and I can see you were directing them to what I was saying now that you have provided context but I can tell you that on reading it, it doesn't read like that so you should be more careful about the words you write. However you weren't lying so I apologise for saying that. Now kindly stop saying I want a country invaded just because I want a person accused of genocide to have a fair trial and be answerable to allegations. If this were you it were happening to wouldn't you want the alleged perpetrator to face justice?

You want a country invaded. You want a foreign army to enter a country without it's permission. That's an Invasion

Mummy2024 · 05/06/2024 21:03

Ategnatos · 05/06/2024 15:07

For fucks sake.

We were talking about what you said. You talked about how you want Israel to be invaded. I asked what happens to Israelis in that situation. The poster said what happens to Palestinians in that situation. I said "I don't know, because I was responding to the poser who thinks another country should go after Israel. If you want to know what happens to Palestinians in their [your] little fantasy, ask them not me."

I understand that the work their could potentially refer to multiple parties in that sentence. But after I explained that it referred to you, you continued to come back on the thread every few days or so to throw personal attacks and accusations at me. You seem desperate to paint me as some heartless bloodthirsty monster some reason I can't fucking fathom.

That's a complete lie given you wernt even talking to me when you said it 😆. Your back tracking and badly as well you clearly said the word ask the palastinians and "their fantasy" it's there in black and white you claim people are making things up lol

I’m pretty sure US are covering their arses, because if he isn’t guilty they can’t have assisted him with his crimes. The hole keeps on getting bigger!

Efacsen · 05/06/2024 06:51

Apparently unlikely to pass into law so just a little light intimidation instead

US House passes ICC sanctions bill over Netanyahu arrest warrant request

Vote is Congress’s first legislative rebuke of war-crimes court since ICC prosecutor’s decision to seek arrests of leaders of Israel and Hamas

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/04/us-house-icc-sanctions-netanyahu-

It is so infuriating that these Congress people have decided to do this, they are not doing their job as their job is to represent their voters and the vast majority of the voting public support the ICC warrants if the ICC rules there is sufficient evidence to issue them.

I am waiting to see what Nethanyu says to Congress when he does his speech.
It’s such a dick move too, so swan off on this business trip to give what I expect to be a speech on good&evil and then likely whine and dine in DC when his country is in complete chaos and his criminal trials are on hold.

I suppose it is a nice jolly for him.

If any country is going to land on our shores in anger, you can be sure that it was never international laws which could have stopped them!!

International laws don't prevent breaches through 'someone' enforcing them against states who break them. How could that work? These are sovereign states with their own armies.

Allegiances like NATO might, since each member has committed to going to the defence of any other NATO state at their request if they're invaded. And everyone knows that to be the case, so are discouraged from attacking.

Our nuclear deterrent might help too.

But not international laws!

They were created after WW2 finished, as a way for countries to codify the best practice they would all like to live by. And to give support to countries to abide by them/aspire towards them. And diplomatic means for discussion and negotiations where there's conflict between states - with clarity about what had been agreed 'in principle' - which could hopefully make wars less likely. That's really all.

Yes that is true for us, UK, as one of the elite in crowd. But it isn’t true for those on the other side of the double standards. Violations of international law has been and is currently used as a causus belli by us to invade those other countries or come to the defence of our fellow in-countries.

International laws are as much a pretext for war as they are rules of war.

Ategnatos · 02/06/2024 19:21

Mummy2024 · 31/05/2024 19:28

They could be invited? By the people of Israel? Who abide by democracy and the rule of law? No Israel citizen would want to stop justice being served would they? If he's guilty or innocent would it not be better to go there and be judged as innocent? Proven innocent if that is what he is?

If you think the "people of Israel" would be okay with a foreign army (you refuse to say which army) rocking up at their border, marching into the knesset and arresting their elected leader you're deluded.

Ategnatos · 02/06/2024 19:17

Mummy2024 · 01/06/2024 21:08

Really you said you will have to ask the Palestinians what's happening in their little fantasy? So what else could that mean?

No that's not what I said. Please stop making shit up. I was referring to your fantasy.

statsfun · 02/06/2024 14:51

SummerFeverVenice · 01/06/2024 02:38

I completely agree with you.

The point of the laws is to selectively enforce them in a way that furthers the geopolitical aims of the five permanent members of the UN. The issue is one of inequality between nations and double standards. The five permanent members are above the law (along with their closest allies) while the rest of the world must follow the law.

This is going to come to a head soon as the rest of the world has been forming large cooperative blocs to counter this geopolitical hegemony.

“When war lands on our own shores, we will become victims of the same crimes and no one will be held accountable..”
Yes that is a risk- complete collapse of the entire system.

If any country is going to land on our shores in anger, you can be sure that it was never international laws which could have stopped them!!

"If it were the leader of my country I would not get in the way of them justice being served. I would allow any army of any country to March in take them and then March right back out. If they are innocent it will be proven legally and they will be exonerated"

@Mummy2024 I am not quite sure where to start with your recent posts. They show either a huge amount of naïveté, or a lack of understanding of political realities. In this last one, I'm not even sure who you are - a member of the public? And "any army" of "any country"?!

Who exactly are you referring to, which army, which country, which leader? And who is "allowing" this marching back in and marching right back out - the general public?

Can you think of any specific instances at all in history so we can see what you're envisaging?

I am a member of the public by the way... not that it matters if I was anyone of importance believe me I wouldn't be sat here posting this just on mums net and if I was a bot, I'd have much better grammar! Sadly I'm neither. Just someone who cares and can see past taking sides.

Any.... I don't care what you think, I'm well aware of the limits of democracy thankyou and the sheer double standards involved.... if i were an Israeli citizen I can tell you categorically I would want Netanyahu to hand himself in or be apprehended

But you are presumably not the leader of a country. If a foreign army were to invade Israel that would be an act of war and they would respond. And people would die. But that's what you want.
