Camilla Tominey in the Telegraph today.
The sheer level of hatred in this article horrifies me. Am I wrong to feel so shocked by this?

interesting idea but if you just took in children I am sure there would be complaints of the children weren't placed or cared for by Muslim parents. The optics of child refugees from Gaza being brought up by Christian families might really strike a few nerves.

What about those who could come and live with extended family or friends? Or seriously unwell children with no living family members? At least they might stand a better chance of living then, and all the other concerns can come after. Couldn’t they be placed with people who would support their right to believe whatever religion they chose to?

Or, indeed, fascism.
a common failing

The Israelis elected again and again a far right fascist government, watches silently while Palestinians homes are bulldozed and their land stolen in the West Bank, hears the kind of rhetoric from elected government ministers calling for another Nakba, nuclear weapons and the total destruction of Gaza, and watches on their phones the mass slaughter of thousands of children.

All totally fine according to some.

Meanwhile the majority of Palestinians have lived their entire lives under a brutal dehumanising Israeli apartheid.

The same apartheid regime that propped up Hamas in Gaza in order to maintain the status quo, i.e. to undermine the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and scupper any chance of a Palestinian state.

They’re the bad guys.

Someone doesn’t know what apartheid was …

Ahh come on, let's not invent scenarios where someone is getting upset about something that hasn't happened. Please don't voice these baseless assumptions.

On a more positive note, the reluctance to take refugees from Gaza must surely provide momentum to establishing a viable Palestinian state.

stormy4319trevor · 18/05/2024 21:23

The poll is a sample of 1580 adults, so be careful not to assume it represents the entire Palestinian population.

Can you find better evidence to the contrary though?

mids2019 · 18/05/2024 21:27

@MissyB1

I am simply saying that there is considerable support of Hamas in Gaza and obviously they are drawing their fighting force from the make population. Remember these Hamas 'fighters' took part in October 7th. I don't think it is Islamaphobic to point this out...terroristphobic yes. (As we all should be)

Seriously you need to educate yourself on refugee programmes you post as if this was never ever done before

I really have had my eyes opened by the level of racism on this thread.
It's vile, disgusting, wrong and sickening.
May you never find yourself and your loved ones in a position of needing refuge.

The interesting thing is that we are currently housing refugees from another conflict, at considerable expense, despite being on their "enemy's" side. They're not even our loved ones; we just met them in a shop and offered help. So you can seriously get lost with your moral high ground.

I don’t think any country is considering doing this are they? Not even close by

No, there are no refugees to house, it has not been considered by anyone, this is all about one article written in the telegraph to stir up hate and division.

Hamas still enjoys considerable majority support in Gaza and the vast majority are October 7th as justified. Yet people want to allow these people unfettered access to the UK?

So all Palestinian men are members of Hamas? Do you have proof of that? Or do you just think Muslim man = terrorist?

According to this survey, Hamas has a lot of Palestinian support.

If so, and if we don't want Hamas supporters / members / activists in the UK, how we weed them out?

I think the vetting would be extremely difficult. I also think that we would as far as possible be interested also in the political opinions of women refugees (I realise they don't have access to equal opportunities of political expression there of course. But they would have much more freedom of expression in the UK).

Although, in principle, the proposition that some refugees could come to the UK is reasonable.

Poll: Hamas Remains Popular Among Palestinians

Palestinian support for Hamas in the West Bank and Gaza remains high, according to a Palestinian poll released on March 20. That support has increased since the Iran-backed terrorist...

I was responding to a poster claiming I made stuff up.

I have no interest in defending my position to posters who are being quite rude and goady. I'm body swerving that.

Hamas are clearly murderously anti-Israeli. Their actions show that. But most Gazans are not Hamas. Most Gazans didn't have any say in having Hamas in power. They do not deserve what's happening to them, and there is certainly no evidence that a Gazan refugee would be a risk to the UK.

You did make stuff up. You told us all hamas didn’t hate Jews. Then you posted hamas propaganda as evidence for that proposition.
i mean, we can go over all this again if you want to, but I’m really not sure why you would
