It appears Jews are not safe in the UK at all.

Can we seriously look at the impact of anti semitism now?

Three in court over alleged plan to attack Jewish community

Three men are accused of planning a gun attack on the Jewish community in North-West England.

I hate this. I’ve seen so much anti semitism in the past 6-12 months. Just Jewish people going about their business getting shouted at from cars, abuse in the street

Martin Lewis just copped a load of abuse on X this morning. He sounds shaken and upset.

however you feel about the Middle East situation it has not been caused and cannot be made better by Jewish people in this country. Equally it cannot be caused or made better by Muslim residents in this country.
Where has the respect gone? Where has this vocal hate come from?

No, I meant the bottom one of the three :) 3 out of 5 are Sudanese, the other 2 aren't

Aaaah well spotted!

anotherlevel · 16/05/2024 12:08

@Humdingerydoo I wasn't. I was just correcting another poster who said there wasn't any protests for Sudan. That was it. You then came on and wanted to play a game of guess the flag. So it's not me who is derailing but you.

Humdingerydoo · 16/05/2024 12:08

@Doveytail , you saying "This doesn’t take away from the the fact that there has been a rise in antisemitism and Jews are feeling unsafe." feels like an attempt at minimising anti-Semitism. "feeling unsafe". We're not feeling unsafe, we are unsafe. There is a difference. There were literally people with weapons planning a deadly attack against us.

@Humdingerydoo
" Should we play a game of 'name the flag' using the photo you posted? "

No thanks I wouldn't want to derail this thread.

"Sudan can't even have one very small protest without Palestinians also being mentioned."

Your point is?

If you don't want to derail the thread, then maybe don't? Maybe talk a bit more about the rise in anti-Semitism following October 7th.

Although I suppose it might be the Ba'ath party flag?

Humdingerydoo · 16/05/2024 11:53

YaMuvva · 16/05/2024 11:48

@Humdingerydoo it is the Sudanese flag, it’s very similar to the Palestinian flag!

How many people turning up to a protest isn’t really the point. It was questioned why there were none and I was simply pointing out there have been.

There seems to be an assumption that

  1. nobody wants to annihilate the Jews
  2. nobody is trying to annihilate the Jews
  3. nobody wants Israel wiped off the map

Israel has done such a good job protecting itself from the threat of annihilation (the Iron Dome for example, along with a conscripted army) that people seem to think that because the regular, repeated attacks on Israel are largely unsuccessful (although civilians are killed, the numbers are low), that there’s no threat to Israel, rather than one that is being constantly thwarted.

October 7th shows that there is in fact a huge threat, that there are people who are absolutely up for slaughtering, raping, torturing Jews, or taking them hostage. But that doesn’t fit the narrative so is brushed off, overlooked, or worse, ‘natural consequences’ for how Israel treats others.

We have had people on the streets of London chanting support for the Houthi attacks on international shipping, because they claim it is in support of Gaza. The Houthi slogan includes ‘Death to Israel and a curse upon Jews’ so suspecting that they might have other motives seems reasonable.

If people are going to start saying that the Jews are to blame for people wanting to annihilate them because of the actions of Israel, then they should be able to explain why Hitler and others tried very hard to annihilate the Jews before Israel was even created. And why the attempted annihilation was called ‘The Final Solution to the Jewish Question’.

There are people who want to annihilate the Jews. There are people who want to wipe Israel off the map because it is a Jewish state. There are people actively working towards that as a goal.

So seeing people on the streets chanting support for the Houthis, or chanting “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ when people who want Palestine to be free of Israel also chant that, when people demonise Zionists - who are people who think Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish state - whose side might they appear to be on?

None of this is condoning what Israel is doing in Gaza, or the West Bank btw, those actions are horrendously awful. But people aren’t chanting for other countries who are conducting genocide, or war crimes, or human rights violations to cease to exist.

Pretty obvious isn't it that this is nowhere near to the scale of the pro Palestinian marches.

"As many people have pointed out Palestinians aren't the only ones being killed in the world atm, thousands are being killed in other conflicts (Yemen Sudan etc) including many Christians being driven out of their countries by Muslims but these people don't seem to want to protest about those conflicts - I wonder why? "

There have been recent protests for Sudan actually.

Yes they aren’t the only people being killed , does that mean we just sit back and allow it?

Palestinians are not just Muslims.
The rate at which the murder and genocide is being conducted is unprecedented as quoted by Amnesty international and the UN, which is what makes it different to other conflicts.

My tax money is being used to fund this genocide I have right to protest - I don’t want my money being used to murder children.

I disagreed with the view that people protesting this genocide are sheep - or joining protests because they are antisemitic.
I have seen people from all walks of life at the protests including many Jews.

This doesn’t take away from the the fact that there has been a rise in antisemitism and Jews are feeling unsafe.

Why are you avoiding the issue? You have brought up the holocaust multiple times. Do you not realise how offensive it is?

I have a theory that maybe people DO care about Palestinians and it is the most talked about cause, support is already well mobilised and it’s easy to join in rather than be the person to start the awareness.

I also have a theory that in supporting Palestinians people get an opportunity to hate on a group that is renownedly hate the world over, and they can do it under the guise of “Oh but I’m so caring about this cause and if YOU don’t care like me you’re awful”.

I can’t tell which supporters fall into which camps these days.

Right folks let’s not let this thread get curtailed from the very important OP against hate against Jewish people. We do not have the defend ourselves for calling out anti-semitism and microagressions

The world antisemitism gets thrown about constantly

Another one for the bingo card everybody

Does it ever occur to them it’s because anti-semitism keeps happening? This is the Jewish equivalent of creepy men saying “God you can’t even say help to woman these days without being accused of being a sex offender”

YaMuvva · 16/05/2024 09:11

Doveytail · 16/05/2024 09:04

I denounced anti semitism , calling people sheep for opposing the murder of thousands of children is not antisemitism though. The world antisemitism gets thrown about constantly.

Never again should apply to everybody , it’s not a phrase owned by any single community.

Saying “I denounce anti-semitism” then going on to make Holocaust comparison is not denouncing ant-semitism, in fact it’s perpetuating anti-Semitic rhetoric.

Never Again is a campaign started by Jewish people and it’s not just about the Holocaust but about the many atrocities and genocide and exiles Jewish people have faced and how we won’t let THE SAME PATTERN lead us down that path again.

To appropriate it for a group who are actually on the land that Jewish people have been exiled from (like it or not that is true, it may not have been in recent times but it is still true) is absolutely appropriating anti-Semitic movements.

Comedycook · 16/05/2024 09:09

Whilst also referencing the holocaust multiple times 🙄
