Conflict in the Middle East

Why aren’t the people protesting against Israel calling for Hamas to disarm and disband?

Surely that will force Israel to immediately stop the war?

They will not be able to continue if their aim of dismantling Hamas is achieved and the hostages are returned.

This is surely the best outcome for the Palestinian people?

I am grateful to @Tripeandonions for the links. I have tried to do my own research but hard to find unbiased sources as you say and all sources have their biases but the more different perspectives (from informed sources not people who get all their information from tik tok or msm) the better.

Im aware of that, thanks ever so; what I was objecting to was the proferring of a biased article to another poster who had expressed an interest in understanding the facts. That’s not cricket.

Well, I'm afraid i can't help you any more.

I can only producer the articles that are available on the internet as I'm not a scholar of ME history.

Something that looked like it was trying to weigh differing views and perspectives rather than accept one uncritically would be a start

You;ll be hard-pressed to find an "unbiased" account in the current conflict but try this -

Oh thanks @Tripeandonionsthat is helpful . It is my understanding that Palestinians were offered 50% + of the land after the war but refused to share with Israel. Then several surrounding states waged war on Israel and lost. So as happens in all winners in wars Israel increased their territory. So I can't see how there will be a palestine state?

So I can't see how there will be a palestine state?

So that's you and me both baffled.

All I can say is that it would have to be created with input from the various protagonists with regard to International Law.

This is the new anti semitic trope that’s getting going, hot on the heels of October 7th denial, and holocaust denial before that.
its a deeply weird mindset.

Millions of people were displaced after the war including Jewish people from Middle Eastern countries. I wonder why other Arab countries have not offered displaced people from that region a home? (Just as millions of others had to move elsewhere).

This is a bit out of date but may answer your question -

Why Egypt and other Arab countries are unwilling to take in Palestinian refugees from Gaza

As desperate Palestinians in sealed-off Gaza try to find refuge under Israel’s relentless bombardment in retaliation for Hamas’ brutal Oct. 7 attack, many ask why neighboring Egypt or other Arab countries don’t take them in.

Because they know that won't stop the war. Israel wants to colonise, Gaza, their actions demonstrate this.

Evidence please.

I don’t see this war as a conflict between ‘victim’ and ‘oppressor’. I’m sure there is fault with the IDF, but equally I don’t think all the deaths are the ‘fault’ of the Israelis.

Pointing out that the Palestinian leadership may be responsible for some of the carnage due to the methods they use is just rational.

I agree

Edited to add that innocent people are suffering and both the Israeli and Hamas government are responsible . There are just endless circular arguments on these threads .

Seriously victim blaming? Pretty callous attitude and a blatant attempt to deflect and minimise the war crimes and murders being carried out by the IDF.

Many people think it was just a religious war, that’s why I think the “violence was necessary” comment is far too vague because a lot of people won’t necessarily understand what that violence actually looked like.

That’s a fair point - it can be read a lot of ways. I suppose I read it that people felt oppressed under British rule and felt that there was no alternative to violence during the troubles. Not that they justify everything the IRA did.

I’m Irish so I do fully understand the history.

My point was in response to someone saying the Palestinians support Hamas. The Northern Ireland situation is different but there are some lessons from the peace process in the north nonetheless. Oppression and inequality leads to violent groups being formed.

Why are people so invested in this conflict? They're both vile.

Because a thousand wrongs don’t make a right.

Because OlderGlaswegian , More people are now aware that Palestinians have been living under a brutal occupation, where the occupier is now facing genicide charges.

You mean Israel had to blockade Gaza as a hostile territory when they elected a terrorist government whose mandate is to annihilate Israel.

Israel left Gaza in 2005.

Is it too simple to wonder why the Palestinians don't force an election, and to not vote for hammas in that election ?

Is it too simple to wonder why there are protests re Israel are performing at Eurovision, when it was Hammas that invaded where the Israelis were living, killing them and taking hostages.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, the ' world ' / ' everyone ' was on the Ukraine's side, why isn't the ' world ' / ' everyone ' on Israel's side

Israeli forcibly removed Palestinians from their homes in 1947 or to use your terminology invaded the Palestinians in 1947.

Israel have responded, after October 7th, in a way that has caused the loss of many thousand civilian lives. About half of the population of Gaza was under 18; it was obvious that many of these would be children.

The governments of the West (especially the US) certainly don't want the collapse of the state of Israel, which is one of Hamas' key objectives and generally they have been supportive of Israel, and acknowledged that any state would want to take action after the murders, rapes and hostage-taking etc.

However, Netanyahu has not been following advice from the US, especially in invading Rafah, with the potential for many more civilian deaths there.

Oh my god, please read a book! If it's just about Hamas why have the IDF been terrorising the people of the West Bank for decades. 507 Palestinian people were killed in the West Bank in 2023 alone, that includes around 81 children.

Wake the hell up

Read what I put, in no way am I saying Israel does not kill people in the West Bank, nor the West Bank kill Israelis, but Hamas in Gaza are different to to Palestinians in the West Bank and while they hold power in Gaza, nothing can change
