What steps can we take to help the Palestinians?

I appreciate that there is little we can do on a personal level and we really need our government to step up but with the situation so dire, I thought it might be useful to have a thread to share ideas on steps we can take to offer support in as many ways as possible.

My ideas so far are:

  • attend local demonstrations
  • if possible, donate to UNWRA or other aid agencies working in Gaza.
  • Write to David Cameron and your local MP via the PSC template https://palestinecampaign.eaction.online/rafah then circulate as widely as possible
  • close any Barclays Bank accounts.
  • Take part in the global financial strike on Friday. I read about this online and I need to find the details again. I think the idea is to spend no money at all on Friday, in order to send a shockwave through the global markets. I appreciate that realistically not enough people will probably take part in this for it to have an impact, but I’m just thinking I will try to do it as it’s an action I can take. I will add a link to the information when I can find it.
  • Boycott - BDS https://bdsmovement.net/Act-Now-Against-These-Companies-Profiting-From-Genocide
  • boycott Eurovision

If anyone can add actions we can take, please do. I am feeling so horrified and powerless, I just thought it would be good to know of every single way to help,

In your mind is Hamas a Muslim group? Yes they are a Muslim group even though their actions are not very Islamic but still they are a Muslim group. Now you’re playing semantics with me. It’s an Israeli Jewish group who believe that what they’re doing is in accordance with Jewish law so yes they are a Jewish group. I have nothing further to say to you. Goodbye.

so the answer to my question is no, you cannot see the difference. No surprises there.

And also @Marjoriefrobisher a pp also put up some similar links and you tried to say it’s ‘only’ 500 families trying to take over Gaza. So which is it? Either it’s not enough Jewish families or they’re not Jewish at all? Make up your mind.

I think you mean Israeli families, don’t you. Or perhaps you’re not capable of seeing the difference. And no, the actions of a bunch of extremists do not represent the approach of Israel any more than the acts of hamas represent all Palestinians.

Wow! I’m afraid to say you are a very unfair person. How is that not evidence? Who were the articles talking about then? White Afrikaaners? Samurai warriors? Marco Polo? It’s staring you right in the face and still you’re in denial. And then you report my post?

One of your links was about the West Bank, another about Haifa. The other relates to the activities of some extrémists in Israel absolutely does not represent any coherent attempt to « auction off » land in Gaza.
and off the back of that you frothed about « Jewish groups ». So yes, I have reported you, though my confidence that you’ll be dealt with as you should be isn’t high

None of this is evidence for the allegation that « Jewish groups » are auctioning off Gaza, I’m afraid. I have reported your original post.

I’ll never cease to be shocked at people’s open support of a proscribed terrorist organisation.

Do you support all terrorists or are you selective? Are Boko Haram on your Christmas card list too? What about Al Shabaab?

No, I don’t support Hamas or Likud, how about you? Are you a far of the current far right government in Israel?

@Charlie2121 is that the Israelis voting in Netanyahu, do you mean? Wasn’t there some controversy around that? Won’t he be going straight to prison once he loses power?

500 families ready to move isn’t insignificant.

So on that logic, collective punishment is correct. Let’s go grab all the little newborns in NICU unplug their machines and say they need to die as they are responsible for Hamas. Glad we got that sorted.

Tomorrow UFOs land in the UK and say collective punishment as the Tories did X,Y,Z. People say our babies are dying, they say ah but they voted for the Tories. Of course they didn’t. Same logic.

Make it make sense at least, for gods sake

Charlie2121 · 11/05/2024 06:58

I think the best help they can be given in the long run is to tell them not to vote for a terrorist organisation as a government ever again. Unsurprisingly it rarely ends well.

In terms of helping, here are some Palestinian petitions for potential debate that could be shared.

This is just a bunch of activists doing what they do; hardly evidence for what you implied.
People of your persuasion seem very clear that Hamas are absolutely to be differentiated from the Palestinian people (despite their previous electoral support for them); yet extrémists on the other side somehow become representative of Israeli policy. Why would that be, I wonder.

Yes, and I have made one. Do you have suggestions for why the righteous on this particular issue never seem to challenge the concerning assertions and behaviour on their own side?

Thanks for sharing one then. Every little bit of support helps.

Rather than de-railing a thread, if you start your own thread to ask your question, I'm sure people will be happy to discuss it there.

Many of my Muslim friends (they are of different heritage backgrounds but English by birth) are doing lots of different things:

A doctor friend is lecturing med students over there online
Organising local demonstrations
Going to London to demonstrate
Sharing on social media

etc

Im finding my English friends of English heritage are not doing anything. Sorry but it’s true.

I like the idea of lecturing medical students on-line, that has to be extremely helpful for young doctors doing their best to keep learning whilst also doing their best for their people. I like that, it’s a fantastic idea.

Which people are these and how have they « laid stakes »? I must say I’m struggling to understand how such a thing could happen in any enforceable manner in the current conditions, but I’m sure you wouldn’t make such a claim without good grounds, so let us see them.

@Scirocco Helping the people of Gaza in these condition's is absolutely heroic. I am really sorry that not all of you came back it’s heartbreaking.

I've not been out during this conflict (previously, though), but friends and colleagues have been, this time. Some will never come home.

For goodness sake people have already laid stakes in the rebranded Gaza! The one without Palestinians. Where to next? Lebanon or would Egypt and Jordan be easier?

Honestly move on to another thread.
