Where the hell are all the Palestinians meant to go now?
They were TOLD to go to Rafah, that Rafah was a safe place.
It’s just open extermination at this point.

I very much doubt any child who survives Gaza will have anything approximating a "carefree childhood".

Israel is killing, maiming and traumatising an entire generation of children. Not because they have to. Because they are choosing to.

Gunnersforthecup · 07/05/2024 21:06

One side (Hamas) started it; the other side (Israel) responded. Hamas knew that their behaviour would provoke a war. It was designed to do that. They wanted to derail peace initiatives in the Middle East. I think Hamas is happy to have a war and a lot of bloodshed, and that they are happy to hide behind children, and they are happy for the children to be killed as the children then become innocent martyrs for their cause. And the world can blame Israel. I think it is a massive set up.

if Hamas is losing, they could surrender? And stop playing games hiding behind civilians? And send back the hostages, alive if possible? And stop playing games saying that they agree to made up terms of ceasefire?

Only Hamas can do this.

This is only "murder" and "genocide", if all war is murder and genocide.

And the war was started by Hamas, on October 7th.

It is indeed terrible; and children are dying; that happens in war; and war is terrible.

I pray that peace will come soon.

But I do not think, myself, that this is genocide.

And no, I am not Jewish.

Can I ask do you think you will feel bad for publicly stating that 'it's war, people die' and for being a genocide denier if the ICJ decide that what we have all been watching is genocide? Especially when what you have decided is against what human rights groups and independent reviews by the UN have said.

It's something I wonder about all of the people who presumably have less knowledge about what is happening than human rights organisations and the UN and less knowledge on the law who feel so confident in their view that they will speak out against it. Will the fact that you didn't just remain silent but that you denied it was happening play on your mind and would you happily tell your children(if you have any) when they ask about the Gazan genocide that actually Mum didn't believe it was happening?

Obviously this is theoretical, maybe the ICJ won't decide it is genocide but have you thought about how you will feel if they do? Or do you think maybe you still won't believe it? You don't have to answer if you don't like but I would be interested if you or anyone else have thought about this?

Repeat, anyone, just anyone, irrespective of creed, origin, race, nationatlity- who supports this, will have to take responsibility one day- they are part of this genocide- just like so many supported or closed eyes and ears in the 1930s. Just as. THIS is NOT antisemitic.

As much as it is horrendous that civilians are being killed in a war with a terrorist government that many of them still support, this is not comparable with the Holocaust and you damn well know it.

I think it’s absolutely abhorrent that people like you are using this sound bite against the very people who are defending themselves against this happening again.

The reason so many civilians have been killed is due to their government actively wanting them to die to further their cause in a war they created.

I pray that all the Hamas leaders and operatives will give themselves up and end this hell for their people so their children can grow up in peace with a carefree childhood without being indoctrinated into wanting to kill Jews and die as martyrs. That will sadly never happen though.

And no, I’m not Jewish either.

fungipie · 07/05/2024 20:59

It is, because a war has two sides. One people now is being obliterated by another = genocide.

Gunnersforthecup · 07/05/2024 20:39

Totally agree 👍

And some people, including some posters on this site, think the world should stay silent while Israeli soldiers and Israeli weapons do this.

It seems off to me that this is happening while they are trying to agree a ceasefire, and I read US have asked allies to not publicly criticise Israel at the moment. I also read this was because they want to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire. I can’t work out what it is but something isn’t sitting quite right.

US says Israel assures it Rafah operations will be ‘limited’

White House national security spokesman John Kirby tells reporters during a news briefing that Israel has informed the US that its operations in Rafah will be focused on blocking weapons and financial support from being smuggled into Gaza.

Ok how come innocent civilians are still being killed then?

Efacsen · 07/05/2024 19:02

EasterIssland · 07/05/2024 18:35

Let’s see what limited means. So far we have already seen bodies of children

They are saying not a 'full scale invasion' which has been the major concern on this thread

Of course plenty of evil things can happen between the 2 extremes

Just wondered if you had a almost clone account. I know now there isn't. No relevance to this board, just wondered.

Ful on the news now. Israel has taken control of the Rafah crossing.
So, how are palestinians meant to pop in next door?
Can you please show some mercy here?
Of course the world condemns what happened October 7th to the israeli population. But this further nassacre is not going to pave the way to avoid that day repeating again.
The peace talks will. Put your energy in advocating for peace, not on revenge. Revenge will give you nothing. Peace is what everyone needs, what will allow for healing.

Yes it's awful.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 07/05/2024 17:13

After the war, Israel has a few of its own problems to sort out.

Settlers, the West Bank is not The Wild West frontier in 1835, land grabbing has not been acceptable for a very long time. The Government needs to solve this issue as a priority.

The Government needs to sort out the corruption within it. The Citizens of Israel deserve to have their country run for their benefit.

A country needs to be in control of itself before it can even attempt to control another.

@ConnieCounter ,

Thank you for your considered reply.

I do think that there is a popular myth that countries have an almost unlimited supply of smart weapons. This is partially because they like to show them off ever since the videos of bombs going down chimneys in the first gulf war. In reality, smart munitions use the most modern chips and are really expensive and in short supply. That is why most countries resort to ‘dumb’ weaponry (look at Russia and Ukraine).

There is an article I link to below, which I broadly agree with. It is in an Israeli publication but I nonetheless hope you take the time to read it. It is written by General Petraeus who enjoyed great success in Iraq in winning over the civilian population.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/with-iraq-on-his-mind-us-savior-general-points-at-the-way-to-victory-in-gaza/

So again we're back to the problem where yourself and Petraeus think that the Israelis are doing a pretty good job and are taking care in what they're doing.

I think it's a genocide so it's not a feasible method in these circumstances.

MushMonster · 07/05/2024 16:58

Yes, I heard of figures on that range.
It is disgusting to be honest.

I spoke to a family trying to flee Gaza, they were trying raise funds. They needed minimum £5k per person to evacuate. They didn’t have enough funds when I last spoke to them. I can’t stop thinking about them and the children.

The problem many families were having is that they had some funds but not enough to evacuate everyone. Men are only allowed to cross the boarder with families. Some families made the difficult decision to let the women and children go to Egypt while the men are left behind.

I just want to correct myself the cost citied by a family fleeing was 7k to 10k per person. Before the conflict the cost was roughly £350.
