Where the hell are all the Palestinians meant to go now?
They were TOLD to go to Rafah, that Rafah was a safe place.
It’s just open extermination at this point.

I was wondering the same
First it was, if the ICC issues arrest warrants against us then it will harm negotiations.
Now it is, if you stop sending us weapons it will harm negotiations.

Playing with people's lives. Threatening countries, who aren't even part of the ceasefire negotiations, with harming the negotiations. Yeah sure it's all about the hostages.

Eh? How does that work, I wonder.

Really upsetting news about the maternity hospital in Rafah not admitting any more people.

Is it because they are full? Or their staff have left for another area? Or because the mothers and babies won’t be safe?

How will these heavily pregnant women travel! Where will they give birth?

How can people justify this as something that needs to happen. How is this making the world a better or safer place.

If they have no empathy or care for anyone other than themselves, then can they at least grasp the idea, that if it’s OK to dispose of normal people in this way then one day that person could be them! It isn’t only cruel to condone this behaviour, it is illogical.

Israel says US halting weapons shipment could jeopardise captives talks: Report

Senior Israeli officials have warned their US counterparts that the Biden administration’s decision to pause a weapons shipment to Israel could jeopardise negotiations on their captives, US news outlet Axios reports.

Eh? How does that work, I wonder.

From Robert Clark, director of defence and security at Civitas. Prior to this he served in the British Army for fifteen years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

He feels that there will be no peace while the terror organisation Hamas has the ability to strike Israel. It must be crushed.

Reproducing the article in full as it is behind a paywall.

Israel’s long-anticipated assault on Rafah has begun. The city is thought to contain four brigades of Hamas soldiers, making it the terrorist’s last stronghold in Gaza. The operation is essential to securing Israel’s borders and safety when military operations end. Yet immense international pressure is being applied to Benjamin Netanyahu in an attempt to force a ceasefire on incredibly unfavourable terms.
We in the West should be in no doubt. Nobody – except for Hamas, and its legions of supporters across Gaza – wishes to see this conflict continue. Everybody else wants a meaningful peace. But this cannot be achieved until the terror brigades are dismantled, and their ability to assault Israel brought to a permanent end.
Only last Sunday, four Israeli soldiers were killed during a Hamas rocket barrage near the Kerem Shalom Crossing – hours before CIA Director William Burns flew into Doha to give voice to US concerns for Israeli restraint and lend force to peace negotiations.
Further pressure was applied by the sudden offer of a ceasefire by Hamas negotiators on Monday, which Israel noted fell “far from” its “obligatory demands”. The operation in Rafah is intended to bring Hamas to the table to negotiate properly, and also to free hostages.
This last gets to the heart of the matter. If Hamas truly wanted peace, and an end to the civilian casualties, then it would accept terms, release the remaining hostages, and renounce violence. That it does not is further proof, if any were needed, that it prefers to fire rockets at Israelis than to protect Palestinians.
Meanwhile on the ground the IDF has moved the Givati and 401 brigades into eastern Rafah, aiming to conduct a limited raid into the east of the sprawling settlement. In an urban area with 1.3 million civilians, and several thousand enemy combatants, it’s hardly a show of overwhelming force and aggression many would have you believe.
That hasn’t stopped the growing chorus of criticism. The US has paused a weapons shipment to Israel, the UK’s own deputy foreign minister has declared that the offensive could break international law, the Belgian prime minister is sceptical of continued trading relations with Israel, and EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell is apparently working on a proposal to limit trade or pass sanctions.
These suggestions are deeply misguided. The assault on Rafah might not destroy Hamas, but it would certainly devastate the remaining Hamas battalions in the region. Their targeted destruction would be a significant step towards peace.

That’s sounds to me like an opinion piece being presented as fact. There is a clear bias in what isn’t being said.

Also, somebody with that background may because of their previous experience find it necessary to rationalise death and destruction as a mental health, self defence mechanism.

They think they can just threaten and bully everyone and if that doesn't work call them antisemitic.

Agreed. The Israeli Govt have no choice if they want to save their state from another Holocaust. Sad but true.

So they’ll create one for the Palestinians instead? Nice.

This despicable Israeli official has a message for the US

Israeli MK and Likud Official Tali Gottlieb have a message to the US:

“The US is threatening not to give us precise missiles . Oh yeah? Well, I got news for the US. We have imprecise missiles. I’ll use it. I’ll just collapse ten [in Gaza]. Ten buildings. That’s what I’ll do”

What an absolute cretin.

All terrible news. Very upsetting.

@Efacsen Main maternity hospital in Rafah stops admitting patients

this Is really worrying! Where will they give birth? I can't imagine the worry of these families right now, especially at what should be a joyful occasion

Agree. It doesn't really bear thinking about giving birth without any medical attention - or even in a clean place - in the chaos and panic of Rafah

These poor poor women and their babies

I don't know if anyone has seen on the other thread but the US have halted some of their weapons transfer to Israel because of concerns of how they will be used in Rafah.
So clearly they have serious concerns as it is the first time they have done so.
But not concerned enough to do more to stop it.

Had a really good look at the pics online of the 'evacuating' people

Lots and lots of young children and women but also some older boys/men of 'fighting age' particularly in photos of Deir-al-Balah for some reason. Plus interviews with 'fathers' online

So seems like boys and men look to be able to leave Rafah - hopefully

Efacsen · 08/05/2024 17:05

About 200 Palestinians leaving Rafah each hour, UNRWA

“The displacement is ongoing and people are leaving towards Khan Younis and the Middle Areas,” said UNRWA communications director Juliette Touma.

“It’s not possible to give a total number of people displaced at the moment given how fluid the situation is,” she added.

A senior UNRWA official told US broadcaster CNN that approximately 50,000 people had left Rafah since Monday.

No game - Israel has peace with the neighbours that are not controlled by Iran so will never be resolved.

West Bank needs better handling by Israel and Gaza is a state controlled by a terrorist organisation who voted for them and even now are not demanding Hamas go.

Oppression is not a way to achieve peace
I was quite clear what neighbours I was talking about with them statement

West Bank needs better handling by Israel
What does this mean?

Gaza is a state controlled by a terrorist organisation who voted for them and even now are not demanding Hamas go.
Gaza is an occupied territory. Hamas were elected there nearly 20 years ago and there hasn't been an election since. Gaza has been occupied and oppressed by Israel long before Hamas and there will never be peace if this continues.

LargeAmericano · 08/05/2024 17:01

SummerFeverVenice · 08/05/2024 15:55

You’re cherry picking when they weren’t being peaceful.
Have you heard of the March of Great Return? The peaceful protests against the Gaza blockade in 2008/9 where IDF snipers deliberately targeted and shot around 600 Palestinian CHILDREN? The UN wrote a report on it condemning the shootings as war crimes.

That is one example, I think you need to read the full version of the history of the area. You have obviously been fed a heavily edited version.

You could at least get the dates right for a start. Are you referring to 2018/19?

They weren’t exactly peaceful protests were they with Hamas encouraging civilians to break down the border fences and infiltrate Israel, throwing Molotov cocktails and burning tyres and kites over the fence. A large proportion of those killed were Hamas operatives.

You are being deliberately misleading with your comment that IDF deliberately targeted and shot 600 children and you well know it.

Apparently 49 were killed over the course of a year sadly but what kind of parent would take children (were these toddlers and young children?) to protests where Molotov cocktails and burning tyres were being thrown and border fences were trying to be breached in deliberately planned clashes with armed soldiers putting their very safety at great risk?

Save your propaganda for someone else hun.

You are the one feeding the heavily edited version.

There is fault on both sides but I’m sorry, the Palestinians are not helping themselves, and more importantly, their poor children!

Sad and worrying development

Main maternity hospital in Rafah stops admitting patients

The main maternity hospital in Rafah has stopped admitting patients, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has told Reuters.

The UNFPA said Al-Helal Al-Emairati Maternity Hospital had been handling some 85 births each day out of a total of 180 births in Gaza prior to an escalation of fighting between Hamas and Israeli troops on Rafah’s outskirts.
