How have we come to a state where the police confront someone for being overtly Jewish?

mids2019 · 20/04/2024 18:39

Just how?

I think at best this inept policing at worst vile anti semitism.

I suppose it is now in the open that central London has become effectively a no go area for Jews given the potential for abuse from hate marchers.

Can't we just stop these marches so Jews can go about their business?

@Lindos1 but that's not what happened.

CAA cancelled their march today. They were unable to provide the police with a planned route or a guarantee that they would not try to cross the main march.

The is also the matter of Tommy Robinson.

I think this is right. Everything Hamas does & has donre shows it doesn't csre about its own people. They are cannon fodder.

this is such a disrespectful thing to say considering one of the Hamas leaders just found out 3 of his children have been killed. You can’t seriously think he doesn’t care about his own children.

Disrespectful to a hamas leader. Hamas leaders don't deserve ANY respect.

Lindos1 · 27/04/2024 15:25

To get back to the original post...

Gideon Falter exposed the fact that there IS anti-semitism on these marches ('nazi' 'scum').

Following threats, today's march against anti- semitism has been cancelled, as the police warned they can't guarantee safety.

So, every Saturday, in 2024, London is a no-go area for Jewish people.

I can't believe what I'm seeing- the blatant anti-semitism on show since Oct 7th. I'm not Jewish, but I'm sorry to say I'd be very feeling scared if I was.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2024 14:19

"A few minutes ago they spotted a man in the crowd at Parliament Square with a placard with a swastika on. He is now under arrest and on his way to custody."

Good. That makes a pleasant change to the time when the police officer argued that whether a swastika was offensive depended on the context.

I hope they have had more training and clearer instructions about this sort of thing.

@LiterallyOnFire You said you would provide evidence? It's a very strong allegation, so requires evidence if we're going to make such claims.

Today's protests seem to be going fairly smoothly.

I've taken it out of your own post, toward the end of your 2nd paragraph.

Can you send independent verified evidence for these please.
As the claims have been disproven.

Of which? The rapes? Or the burning of babies?

@noblegiraffe I do sincerely apologise.

It was @LiterallyOnFire who made the claims of the burning babies.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2024 14:13

People talk about the policing on the London marches being inept and turning a blind eye to offensive behaviour on the part of the protestors, but having seen what's going on the US, I think things could be far worse on both sides.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2024 14:12

No I didn't.

mrsrussel · 27/04/2024 14:11

@noblegiraffe You made a claim yesterday of the alleged burning babies and said you would provide independently verified proof of this. I'm still waiting...

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2024 14:09

Aaaaand the first responses aren't about antisemitism on the streets of London but are about me instead. Thumbs up guys, solid work.

Forcing a segue into how corrupt Netanyahu is isn't a response to a discussion about Iran bombing an embassy. It's blatantly obvious what you were doing and it happens all over this section.

I'm very happy to return the conversation to Gideon Falter being called a Nazi and scum on the streets of London and how the police pointed out that being visibly Jewish would be provocative and they couldn't guarantee his safety. I don't think it's inept policing on their part so much as inconvenient honesty.

You forgot to mention why you aren't sticking to the subject of the thread? You really don't like criticism or anyone who doesn't support your view.

ssd · 27/04/2024 14:03

@noblegiraffe ,as long as you're happy we can all sleep at night.

Threads do get derailed into people's favourite topic which is how terrible Israel is.

The post above yours is a prime example of the inability to discuss anything else. An attempt to discuss Iran bombing an embassy? What about Netanyahu??

An attempt to discuss antisemitism on the streets of London stands no chance.

It's a little ironic as YOU were the one discussing bombing embassies. I responded.

BeckyAMumsnet · 27/04/2024 13:36

Hi all - as this thread is straying from the original discussion, can posters please refrain from derailing? We appreciate that many threads move on organically but it's clear from where we sit that the majority of posters on this thread would prefer to discuss the issues raised by the OP.

Yes I have been perusing all recent threads on the conflict and do see what you mean.

I have said this before but this thread has become completely derailed and the original thread and idea has become lost and resembles many other threads. I am quite new to posting but have actually seen this on a lot of the CITME threads and would welcome being able to to read threads which relate to the specific title.

So the US has the right to defend itself when Iran attacked their embassy and people are still wondering why the US provide military support to Israel.

Attacking embassies is wrong. Suggesting that Israel are 'playing the victim' when it comes to Iran attacking them is ridiculous.

Of course, attacking embassies is wrong, and that includes Israel.

How is Netanyahu's corruption trial? He has his own interests for prolonging the genocide/war.

Auvergne63 · 27/04/2024 12:19

You're missing the point. Claiming that Israel is 'playing the victim' when it comes to Iran when Iran poses an existential threat to Israel and is funding various terrorist groups to attack Israel is absolutely batshit. Iran being forced to send missiles against Israel because Israel attacked their embassy?
Still missing the point. Dear me, I really don't know how to explain it to you. Iran has the right to defend itself, as defined by international laws, when they are being directly attacked. An embassy is a sovereign territory.
The only difference between that Iranian attack on Israel and all the others is that Iran did it in their own name and from their own soil.
Read my last sentence and you will understand why this was different.
Disclaimer: I am no fan of Iran. I just do not like double standards and the international laws ignored. Laws are here to protect.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2024 11:49

Dulra · 27/04/2024 11:30

You're missing the point, bombing embassies is wrong irrespective of who is doing the bombings. No one wants to live in a what's good for the goose world gets us no where.

There's a war going on in the Middle East and some people seem to think that it is Israel against the Gazans.

We're in a situation where because of this view, people on MN are suggesting we should have sympathy for a Hamas leader. That Israel were 'playing the victim' when it comes to Iran. People are chanting support for the fucking Houthis on the streets of London when their slogan is 'Death to Israel, a curse upon Jews'.

What Israel are doing in Gaza is abhorrent. But we are not in a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' situation. Iran and their proxies are absolutely not our fucking friends.

Here's Iran bombing a US embassy in December last year. So I can easily imagine Iran bombing embassies.

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/08/politics/us-embassy-iraq-attack/index.html

You appear not to have understood my point.
Basically, bombing an embassy is illegal. It doesn't matter who does it.
Why is it so hard to understand?
