@SammyScrounge I don't think many people would have objected to self-defence and the dismantling of Hamas. However, it has become clear that the military response has been disproportionately targeted at innocent civilians.

Gaza - not Hamas - has pretty much been destroyed, including the destruction of vital infrastructure and cultural heritage.
In addition to the use of 'dumb bombs' to cause widespread death and destruction, AI-targeted weapons have been used to target the family homes of people, when children are home, using definitions such as 'male' to identify suspected threats.
Hospitals have been besieged and have become sites of massacres. Doctors have been executed, patients left by the IDF to die.
Snipers have shot elderly women taking shelter in a church, and have disproportionately targeted children and vulnerable civilians.
Soldiers have posted openly on the internet about having carried out acts which may constitute war crimes, including torture.
While innocent people starve to death, aid is withheld and aid workers are being killed.
And the list goes on...

This is not, in the eyes of many, a just and proportionate response. Nor is it an effective one if judged against the aims of dismantling Hamas and freeing the hostages trapped in Gaza.

many times. Knowing their bloodthirstiness well, Israel will take that seriously. Which is what they are doing now. I don't know why people cannot grasp that reality: any country will defend its own people and territory and will move on to the enemy 's territory and destroy its military capacity as soon as. No nation is required to ignore promises to attack them repeatedly.

Hamas wanted to provoke a war and it succeeded. They can't whinge about the consequences of that.

The aggressive nasty push back on these threads is interesting, it kind of mirrors what is happening.

I think many Israelis see themselves as Ukraine as did most of the world after Oct 7th. But as soon as the IDF started their slaughter it was clear they are the Russia.

I am old enough to remember Sept 11th. The world was so sad for America. When they went for all out carnage in revenge people reacted against them. Humans don’t like slaughter of other humans just because you can.

I think people stop posting here because of the nasty posters but they don’t stop thinking, marching, or writing letters etc. I have stopped buying all Israeli goods. So have most of my friends and we quietly encourage everyone we know to do so.

it is time for an economic boycott, like against South Africa. But, with America giving it $3 billion plus a year it is hard to see how it would Impact.

One of my friends who was at Al Shifa is still missing. Every time I see these articles I'm almost scared to read them in case it's reported that his body has been found. Which doesn't make much sense because whether his name appears in an article or not isn't going to change whether or not he's dead. I hope he's alive, but at the same time, if he is dead, I hope someone finds him. He deserves better than an unmarked, disrespected mass grave. His family deserves better.

Analysis of satellite imagery and social media shows how dozens of bodies were interred in mass graves during Israel's weeks-long siege of the hospital, and how these graves were subsequently bulldozed while Israel occupied the complex.

Many men were detained and not allowed to leave Al Nasser. I have seen videos where the mothers and wives have gone back to see if they can identify any of their loved ones that are being dug up from the mass graves.

I saw that video. I don’t think I have ever felt such despair in response to a news story before. Her parents and three year old (so also a baby) sister were killed.

As many will know, the independent investigation into the Israeli allegations that 12 UNRWA staff members participated in October 7th and some, up to 10%, are members of Hamas was published two days ago stating there is ZERO evidence of this found by them or provided by Israel.

These allegations caused a loss of $450 million in funding from major donor countries. The U.K. was one and despite this report has not made any indication of restarting aid funding. The lack of funds has hobbled the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, contributing to the universal malnutrition and increasing famine in the besieged strip. The IDF destruction of agricultural land and water sources has further contributed to the starvation.

The pp comparing the UK’s actions today to the UK’s actions that caused the famine in Ireland isn’t far off the mark. There are parallels and our government is making the choice to stop food aid when it is most desperately needed by a captive population who cannot escape the area. At least many Irish could get on a boat and escape Ireland during that famine. Gazans cannot escape the ongoing famine they are trapped in.

Choosing not to help is a choice and yes the UK is responsible for any and all consequences of its choices.

Oh and the other reason I suspect some posters are desperate for people to stop talking about the situation is what is happening makes them feel deeply uncomfortable yet they are unable to face it. The reality is so dire it's easier to make out it is "not that bad", that "lots of aid" is coming in etc etc etc. People don't want to feel the discomfort the truth brings.

I'm just curious to know why some posters are so desperate for the real facts not to be shown and repeatedly encourage people not to post, and pile on with whataboutery and distraction and misinformation.

I suspect it is because in highlighting what is going on it does help Gazans. By bringing it to people's attention. If the world ignores it then it will continue longer, harder and will never be challenged. We cannot allow this gross mistreatment of civilians to go unreported, ignored.
