@BelleHathor this is good to hear, although very scary that Netanyahu will be even more influenced by the far right fanatics, although they pretty much seem to be in charge anyway, don’t they?

Currently watching the resignations, Gantz and Eisenkot resigned, as did the military head of the Gaza operation and another high ranking person. So it would appear that Owen is correct.

P.s. unrelated, perhaps? but Macron has called for elections in France too.

Human rights watch, Amnesty international and Israeli human rights organisations have released reports of previous conflicts. They wouldn’t be allowed in per say / but they’ll use partners on the ground, satellite images and the verification of images and videos we are seeing coming from Gaza now.

All dismissed as antisemitism by the Israeli authorities and their supporters of course,

Thanks to @Tienne for the initial link. This article describes some of the challenges encountered by people seeking the truth about the use of sexual violence in the horrible events of October 7th as well as the experiences of the innocent people taken hostage.

That's a really interesting article. It saddens me that there will never be proper investigations into the atrocities commited by Hamas and the same for the atrocities commited by Israel. Everything has been cloaked in secrecy and lies, for those that want legal justice it is impossible to imagine that that will ever be allowed to happen. Perhaps if some day international bodies are allowed into Palestine they may be able to try and piece together something but it will certainly be a mammoth task that spans over years and years. I doubt that international bodies will ever be allowed to investigate in Israel, I cannot see them ever allowing that.

This is a very important article, reporting on the findings of detailed and serious investigation all be it not one as extensive as a full scale legal one.

Thank you for posting it.

How complex the situation is and how elusive the full truth regarding the extent of systematic rape of Israeli women at the hands of Hamas.

Everyone should read this I think. It shows that all the reports that came out were not necessarily true; but at the same time it is not saying at all that no rapes or sexual abuse took place.

It is interesting and welcome that Patten feels that a much fuller, official, legal investigation should be carried out, though so much forensic evidence was lost at the outset, and that it should include, not only the rapes of Israeli women, but also credible alleged rapes of Palestinian women. It is frustrating that this has been refused (on both counts).

The real worry remains about the hostage Israeli young female conscripts.

A ceasefire to get them free should be a priority. It is awful to think there may be use of the idea of widespread rape for hasbara purposes, while at the same time these girls are being left at the mercy of their male captors.

AhNowTed · 08/06/2024 08:42

@BibiSuzanne

Totally. A shield implies protection.

When did Israel even hesitate to bomb them all anyway.

There is zero shield to genocidal maniacs.

BibiSuzanne · 08/06/2024 07:54

I'm getting seriously sick of this 'human shields' crap. It is a hasbara line to justify the genocide so that Gaza is empty and ready for settlement. In such a tiny strip of land there will always be masses of civilians around 'Hamas'. That is convenient for Israel.
It is not Hamas getting the civilians to 'follow them and shield them'. It is the Israelis directing them to 'safe' places and bombing the hell out them. Their justification? Because a certain Hamas battalion was there.
Are people really that naive? So Israel knows exactly which battalion is hiding and where and can directly destroy them, yet on the 7th October, the world's most sophisticated army did not notice Hamas fighters smashing through the border in the most 'unsophisticated' way. And then when it did, did nothing to stop them UNTIL Hamas killed enough people to get the Israeli propaganda machine in motion. With a little help from the Hannibal Protocol so that the world believes Hamas killed more than they did (and before I'm lectured at I condemn those killings) .
And the hostages? Hamas would not kill them as they are extremely valuable bargaining tools. Does Israel really think they are alive with all the indiscriminate bombing and orders to move to 'safe' places? Of course not. But they will blame Hamas.
And finally, a message to certain posters from other topics: I will not be replying to you as you twist my words and play faux innocent. I'm done with that.

Scirocco · 08/06/2024 07:28

SmugglersHaunt · 08/06/2024 00:42

Perhaps Hamas could release the hostages, surrender and stop using their own citizens as human shields then it would all be over.

No, it wouldn't be. And you know it.

mollyfolk · 08/06/2024 01:22

Thanks for that article @ScrollingLeaves - it’s very scary stuff. I’m interested how the far right movement have generally latched in to this issue as well. Feeding into their whole anti Islamic , great replacement theories in Europe.

Really? Isrsel have said that they will stop their decades long occupation, remove the 700,000 settlers that live illegally in Palestine, release everyone they are holding in administrative detention and stop the blockade on Gaza if Hamas release the hostages and surrender? When did Israel say this?

Also I note that you aren't disputing that Israel are committing genocide, you just seem to think it's OK to do it in certain circumstances. We'll stop committing genocide and killing 10s of 1000s of innocent people and maiming 10s of 1000s more if you release the hostages and give up. How on earth are you cool with that?

A thread by a Jewish anti-zionist journalist, Benjamin Rubinstein, of his ‘top ten’ Jewish people -

I find it interesting that many on this list are demonised on these boards as anti Semitic, but they are all in fact Jewish themselves. The conflation between anti Semitism and anti Zionism is extremely misleading, I feel.

Thanks for sharing the text. I had read the bit I could in the NY times but the full article was behind a paywall

My pleasure. To be clear, though, that was only some of the text as I was worried putting it all in might be considered wrong. But if you put the headline into archive ph the whole article, illustrations and links come up.

Bombing schools now.

Dozens killed, including children.

“A report by the New York Times revealed that Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs funded a $2 million covert influence campaign to target U.S. lawmakers and the public during the Gaza conflict.

The campaign, executed by Tel Aviv-based Stoic, a political marketing firm, targeted the American public and members of Congress through hundreds of fake accounts on X, Facebook, and Instagram to advocate for continued military funding.

In the process, three fake English-language news sites were set up to support the campaign and bolster support for Israel's actions in Gaza.”

You can read an article about this in Haaretz if you put the headline below into archive ph.Israel Secretly Targeted American Lawmakers With Gaza War Influence CampaignIn an attempt to sway global public opinion on the war in Gaza, fake accounts and sites spread pro-Israel and Islamophobic content. The operation was orchestrated by Israel's Diaspora Affairs Ministry and run by a political campaigning firm

It is a long article but here is just the first three paragraphs:
The Israeli government is behind a large-scale influence campaign primarily aimed at Black lawmakers and young progressives in the United States and Canada. The operation, whose existence was first reported by Haaretz in March, was launched after the start of the war in Gaza and was intended to sway certain segments of public opinion on Israel's conduct.

The influence campaign made extensive use of fake websites and social media to promote content that is pro-Israel, anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim content, as well as disinformation about antisemitism on American campuses, according to an investigation by the Fake Reporter organization, published today.

.The operation was run by an Israeli company that specializes in political campaigns. According to sources and information obtained by Haaretz, the operation was commissioned by Israel's Diaspora Affairs Ministry but carried out by a different party, for fear that its exposure could entangle Israel in a crisis. Among the candidates for the job was the organization Voices of Israel, which received half of its original funding from the Israeli government. Asked for a response to this article, Voices of Israel denied that it was related to the influence campaign exposed.

………. Here is another part about how they tried to influence Black Americans against Palestinians;

Another was the Arab Slave Trade site, which was copied almost entirely from Wikipedia and was aimed at Black Americans, trying to repeat the message that the Arabs had been slave traders in Africa.
