Conflict in the Middle East

Anyone seen the video where the police officer says a swastika is not anti-Semitic at a pro Palestine March?

I know there are lots of pro-Palestine supporters in this area of the board. If not anti-Semitic then what else is it standing for in this context? Apparently it was drawn on some protestors banners.

And, as I said, even if Hamas was transporting weapons it is never OK to target innocent people. Never ever, no matter who is doing it. If you think it is OK, I to target innocent people and aid convoys like this, well, we have fundamentally different values and will never agree.

That was at @Dibilnik btw

@Kendodd children and adults have already starved to death. Some delightful people mocked them on social media too.

OK, so this is an example of why these threads strike me as deeply antisemitic. How can we possibly know the reasons behind this attack?

Think about it: if you were Hamas right now, what's the best way to move things around? Obviously, forbidden targets such as aid convoys. Obviously, you'd make sure the innocent aid workers let the IDF know precisely where they'd be, so that your secret cargo would be guaranteed safe from attack.

This is a highly plausible scenario in this conflict. Of course we have no evidence, but neither do you have any evidence that there was nothing else but food supplies involved here.

Edited

So it's antisemitic to criticise Israel for targeting an aid convoy? Or criticising people who support Israeli actions regardless of what they do?
Or was it something else I said in there that was antisemitic? If so please point it out.

I'm sorry, but even if they were carrying weapons (no evidence they were anyway), deliberately targeting aid workers delivering food, how can that not be a war crime? Is there nothing the Israeli government can do that people won't defend? How many in Gaza have to die before some people say enough? All off them?

Does anyone know, have people started dying from starvation in Gaza yet?

The vehicles could have been transporting weapons etc, unknown to most of the poor souls in them.

Without access to Israel's intelligence information, it is absolutely impossible to interpret this incident other than to say how desperately sad it is.

Is the suggestion the Palestinian person killed was a Hamas militant ? Is there any evidence of this or just what has been claimed to excuse the incident? Interesting as it can’t be an accident if actually what they’re saying is they targeted because they believed a militant was part of the convoy, it would have to be either or.

LemonyTicket · 03/04/2024 10:47

Of course the swastika is antisemitic. They are doing this deliberately, as yet more gaslighting of Jews under the guise of virtue.

Parkingt111 · 03/04/2024 09:03

@Muthaofcats the Palestinian killed was Seifeddin Issam Abu Taha, a young 25 year old who was part of the WCK relief team. A young life taken in a cruel unjust manner whose only crime was to help in the humanitarian efforts to distribute aid to the Palestinians.

There is definitely no suggestion from any western media source that the Palestinian killed was a hamas militant, I don't think I have even heard that from Israel, yet! Last I heard was they thought there was a Hamas militant amongst them but the person they were targeting was at the warehouse and never went in the vehicle, this is form the IDF none of it has been independently verified.

From sky

Our Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall says he suspects the UK government may take some sort of action after the deaths of three Britons in an IDF airstrike.
"It was not just a single airstrike - all three vehicles in that aid convoy spaced three kilometres apart were hit by missiles," he says.
"Clearly the fact that the aircraft, be it a drone or a jet, fired three separate missiles, shows it was the intention to strike this convoy.

I bet we don't do anything very much and continue to support Israel and supply them with weapons. Likewise America.

CatsKnowTheAnswer · 03/04/2024 00:46

Yes, I've just read up on this in the guardian. It's awful if found to be accurate. So it seems that they targeted the vehicles as they believed a ' militant ' was travelling within the convoy. there doesn't seem to be much more detail than that at present.

@CatsKnowTheAnswer they had shared their coordinates with the IDF and were in clearly marked vehicles.
The aid convoy consisted of three vehicles and all three of them were struck in separate strikes. What else would you call that?

I'm not sure it was a cock up.
That aid agency has now withdrawn from distributing food aid. Israel can say that was their choice to do so, not us, we let aid in. Meanwhile, the people of Gaza have even less food.

Are you implying that the aid workers were deliberately targeted? If so, could you provide your source please?

Kendodd · 02/04/2024 20:40

A cock-up. They're quite common in wars.

Dibilnik · 02/04/2024 20:33

Just out of curisosity, I asked CoPilot:
How problematic would it be to display a swastika at a demonstration in support of Palestinian victims of the Gaza war with Israel?

The answer:
Displaying a swastika at a demonstration, regardless of the cause, is highly problematic and offensive. The swastika is a symbol that has been associated with hate, anti-Semitism, and violence due to its use by the Nazi party during the Holocaust. Using it could be seen as promoting hate speech and could potentially lead to legal consequences in many countries. It would also likely detract from the message of the demonstration and could cause unnecessary conflict or violence. It’s important to remember that effective and respectful communication is key when trying to bring attention to any cause. It’s always best to choose symbols and messages that promote peace, unity, and understanding.

No. I was talking about attacks carried out by terrorist organisations. I was making a like for like comparison. Pro Palestinian posters are expected to protest about or post about every other conflict or the only reason they could possibly be concerned about Palestinians is because they are antisemites. I asked why the same is never asked of pro Israeli posters. Why are they not asked if they post about any other terror attacks or just this one. Why are they not asked if they marched for any other terror attacks or just this one. Why is it just people who are appalled by what is happening in Gaza that are expected to be actively engaged in protesting and posting about every other conflict on earth or they are clearly just antisemitic.

OK, thank you for clarifying and for an interesting question. I'll have a think about this.

Before you go for the night, you might find it interesting to read the article posted in a separate thread about snipers targeting children.

I have just read that, thanks.

I haven’t seen evidence it was

  • the Nazi swastika as opposed to Hindu/Buddhist one, or
  • which side displayed it in a placard and in what context

Even if it were a Nazi swastika, a placard like the one I have seen held by Pro-Israel counter protesters that says Hamas are Nazis and with the Nazi swastika in a banned red circle symbol like this 🚭would be ok.

The video was filmed on a day when there were both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters. The woman never clarifies the context or who had it or even which swastika it was.

I’m Jewish btw, and I don’t think the police response was outrageous especially since the holder of the placard had already been arrested/detained and this had been established during a part of the 10min interaction with the woman, but she edited that out before posting to shit stir. A police officer can’t do the job of a magistrate and state a placard he hasn’t seen is definitely AntiSemtic and the protester is guilty of a hate crime. It’s not his job. That is the job of the court.

I can confidently say this is absolute gibberish and there is zero chance you’re a Jewish person writing this. Unless you’ve had a brain injury.

I would hope that would be the starting point for most people - that all children and other innocent lives lost, taken hostage and otherwise irrevocably impacted are deserving of our compassion.

I would hope so . But It’s hard to remain compassionate when angry and hurt . I think those of us who are not personally affected have a duty to to tone down the temperature rather than dial it up .

Try to imagine being the mother of one of these children and you might see that your comment requires an apology

I'm sure the mothers of the victims of 7 October might feel the same way about you dismissing their government's response to the atrocities as a "war crime."

OK I am really done for tonight!

about you dismissing their government's response to the atrocities as a "war crime."

It isn't posters on here calling out Israel for committing war crimes it has been called out by numerous nations and bodies such as the EU, US, UK, UN, WHO to name a few. The Israeli government are doing an injustice to the Israeli people by committing war crimes in their name.
