The 12 year old Palestinian child shot dead on the West Bank

OMG. Have just seen the BBC report of this killing, including the site of the shooting, demonstrating how far away this kid playing with a firework was from the highly fortified tower the Israeli sniper shot him from. I’m starting to think we’re dealing with a bunch of fucking psychopaths, in the IDF and the Israeli Government. They’re serial killers, the lot of them. Bollocks to their “he was a 12 year old terrorist”. He was an innocent child, playing.

You've totally missed my point.

Which was what? To say that the killing of the 12 year old was "pure racism" just to score a point?

No. The point, I think is this - A pp stated that condemning the actions of the IDF is ‘pure anti-Semitism’ because they are no different to any other army, apart from being Jewish. Therefore, by the same token, condemning kids (to death, no less) for playing in the street is pure anti-Palestinian racism, because they are no different to any other children playing, apart from being Palestinian.

If you had seen the previous poster's inane, hateful anti-Palestinian comment you would understand.

I did see it. I couldn't remember it word for word when I circled back round to post but I saw it.

Can you not see that this "she called my team smelly so I made a point by calling her team smelly" nonsense is completely inappropriate when you're slinging around accusations that racism is the "pure" motivation for anyone in this deadly situation?

Surely not holding the IDF to the standards of international law would be anti-Semitic as it would be suggesting they are incapable of the same ethical standards of other countries?

I was quoting the previous poster (now rightfully deleted for hate speech) who was saying condemning the soldiers, who were being "baited" by children, was "pure antisemitism". I turned their phrasing into my comment.

Yea I saw the comment and realised it was a retaliatory rhetorical something... but where does that get us?

She says whatever position or comment is "pure" anti semitism, you say the shooting was "pure racism" towards Palestinians. Neither can possibly be true. So what does saying it achieve? It's just so much more petrol thrown on the flames from two directions.

You've totally missed my point.

Was this the West Bank or the East Jerusalem?

I think East Jerusalem is considered under International Law to be part of the (occupied) West Bank?

Thank you. I cannot bear it that Israelis should even be there with guns, towers, and powers to shoot and arrest when it is not their own territory.

Sorry. Lost track of my own strand there but I was trying to make two separate points about how it really isn't all a matter of hate crime as well as why calling it "pure" bigotry is unhelpful. Two connected points.

I shouldn't post between working.

LiterallyOnFire · 14/03/2024 13:38

...which is why I started my remarks by saying I don't think either side is pure anything.

But it's also true. It's a complicated geopolitical shitstorm with a grisly religious backstory. It's militarised. Nobody is acting from pure racism or pure bigotry or pure anything else in a situation like that and it's really dangerous to be so reductive. We all want things to improve so we need to stop the over simplification.

If posters want to label anyone who denounces shooting a child antisemitic, let them. I have come to the conclusion that criticising the IDF/Israeli makes you automatically antisemitic; no matter what.

the logic is so warped.

It's pure anti-Palestinian racism

I don't think it's "pure" anything. It's young soldiers, asked to police a tinderbox that shouldn't exist in the first place, and the psychological aspects of that are complicated. The whole thing needs solving.

I wouldn't want my children living in the WB, and I wouldn't want them patrolling it in an IDF unit, either.

The best hope is some kind of NI style peace process.

I realise their comment was deleted now so you can't see the context.

Please would someone explain why Israelis are even there in their shooting tower?

Was this the West Bank or the East Jerusalem?

I have a good friend in the West bank. Every night he sends me videos of incursions, Israeli army officers randomly shooting, and bulldozers destroying infrastructure. They're unaccountable and frankly psychotic. I tell him the occupation is bound to end but it's little comfort on a daily basis...

It’s just horrible. That’s just it, it is an occupation. This isn’t a war as the Palestinians have no legitimate side to fight as in a 2 sided war.

And shooting a child, after assuming they are a terrorist on the basis they’re Palestinian is acceptable racism apparently

Thanks. Maybe it can be found on their twitter page. Can you remember the approximate date? It will help with the search.

It was day before yesterday and said by a male reporter in East Jerusalem reporting on the shooting of Rami.

I watched it on a live news report via Reuters. I have just tried to find a recorded video of the live report I watched, but cannot find it.

Thanks. Maybe it can be found on their twitter page. Can you remember the approximate date? It will help with the search.

Surely there's only so long you can keep playing the antisemitism card.

People are condemning the Israeli government not all Jewish people.

As for what do we expect the IDF to do, maybe not kill children for a start?

No other children are held to the standards of palestinian children, who get killed for playing with a firework.

It's pure anti-Palestinian racism.

This with bells, whistles and flashing lights on it.

inkworks273 · 14/03/2024 10:54

Disagree with the IDF murdering children? Antisemitic! No other explanation for it.
