Wkc last week
unicef this week
local polices supporting the supply of aid killed 2 weeks ago

feels like Israel doesn’t like the aid to be supplied and isn’t facilitating it. They don’t like urnwa but they’re not doing a good job doing urnwa role

ConnieCounter · 11/04/2024 10:36

@Efacsen thanks for the update. Very depressing.

Efacsen · 11/04/2024 10:25

And a sad PS

''The mission had been authorised and the Israeli authorities knew about the convoy, said Ingram. After the shooting, Israeli authorities continued to delay the convoy and it eventually was forced to return to Rafah.

“So those life-saving supplies never made it to the children in northern Gaza,” she said.''

Pity they weren't able to use the completely safe Israeli military road to avoid this happening

UNICEF says its vehicle hit by live fire while waiting to enter northern Gaza

UNICEF have raised the incident with the IDF

@ConnieCounter "I'm not sure why you're digging up things I posted a month ago"

Because you berated me for 'belittling other posters' when you had done the same thing yourself to another poster.
You told a poster on that date I quoted,, that they had ' no humanity' when they posted the truth that Israel had not been found guilty of genocide by the ICJ.

I also have an opinion and that is that that ^ was a nasty post and totally unwarranted. It was also hypercritical.

That;s why I flagged it up.

Hope that helps.

You must have me confused with someone else. I never said you belittled anyone.

Maybe get the user name correct next time you go on the attack 🙄

@Dulra "I find it puzzling that you are so outraged at other posters for not doing something you don't seem willing to do yourself. "

I'm not "outraged" so please don't use such unnecessary hyperbolic language,

I'm just surprised that some people are so blinkered to human suffering outside of Gaza.

Apologies I'll correct it
I find it puzzling that you are surprised at other posters for not doing something you don't seem willing to do yourself.

So because people are on here posting about the human suffering in Gaza you assume they care nothing for anyone suffering outside Gaza? Pretty big assumption to make about people you don't know but you think you can make a pretty offensive statement about them. I can't speak for everyone on here, I would never assume to know anything about them, but for me that statement is completely wrong

Mags48 · 10/04/2024 19:10

I think @Alstreena would like us to discuss everything but Palestine.

Scirocco · 10/04/2024 19:02

@Alstreena staying on topic isn't being blinkered. It's... staying on topic.

I'm also involved in a range of other charitable and aid initiatives, try to shop ethically, write to my MP about things, care about Rohingya and Yemen and other places. But that's not the topic of the thread, so I don't talk about them here. I talk about them elsewhere, where it's the topic of discussion. Not mentioning them in every discussion doesn't mean I don't care.

I presume you know that your question can't be answered. I'm entitled to an opinion and in my opinion Israel is committing genocide.

I'm not sure what my post was in reference to. I'm not sure why you're digging up things I posted a month ago but unlike you I'm not arsed trawling through my old posts!

Why don't you welcome people to these threads and be welcoming and supportive of people starting out and then talk about other conflicts, human rights issues?
This isn't a group therapy session, you have very high expectations for anonymous online posters who you know nothing about, they owe you nothing and vice versa.

Absolutely let's discuss other human rights issues some of us do that already through human rights organisations and charities we are part of, this specific thread is discussing the reality of what Israel is doing in the middle east. Nothing is stopping you starting your own thread. I find it puzzling that you are so outraged at other posters for not doing something you don't seem willing to do yourself. Why don't you lead by example?

Edited

@Dulra The ideas I pushed back at Connie Counter were suggested by them below, they weren't my ideas, so maybe you should address your concerns to the original poster

"Scirocco · Today 12:58
@Alstreena, having one huge thread on "war is terrible", would be confusing for posters - everyone would lose track of what they were talking about. If we can't separate out specific issues, we can't talk effectively about anything. Needing to separate things out is why books need chapters, forums need boards and threads, etc.

Many people do care about other conflicts and human rights issues around the world and have been involved in activism or otherwise taken steps themselves to try to raise awareness, or avoid supporting, etc. They might just not feel the need to go "here is my protest CV" with every post. That's not selective empathy, it's staying on topic.

For some people, the Israel-Gaza conflict might be their first experience or one of their first experiences of protesting against or wanting to object to the ethically questionable military actions of the UK government and an overseas government, as well as the actions of a proscribed terrorist group. Rather than belittling people in this group, it might be more effective to encourage them to become aware of and start applying what they're learning to other examples of oppression, genocide and war around the world.

I think if you start a thread about Yemen (other than one in which you're just using it to bash people caring about a different situation) you might find people do actually care."

OK, so please let us know when the ICJ ruled on the issue of Israel being guilty of 'committing genocide' because I for one missed it. 🤔

Or maybe you just made up the comment about 'state sponsored genocide' because it fits your agenda?

@ConnieCounter "Why does it bother you so much that people would be upset by this?"

It bothers me that people are so 'upset by this' that other human suffering seems to be irrelevant in their eyes.
There are two sides to every conflict and I hardly think the 'other side' is enjoying it much either.

So I have a suggestion for you.

Why don't you welcome people to these threads and be welcoming and supportive of people starting out and then talk about other conflicts, human rights issues?

That might be more productive than your inflammatory hyperbolic posts such as 6-3-24 at 9.50. where you accused a poster of 'no humanity' and Israel of 'deliberate starvation of millions of people' and 'State sponsored genocide'.

Maybe your posts stem from your opinion of Israelis rather than a genuine interest in understanding and harmony?

Everybody knows that a ruling of genocide isn’t possible right now because it takes years. However, the ICJ ruled that there is a plausible risk of genocide which is why the case wasn’t thrown out.

Is that so difficult to understand?

Alstreena · 10/04/2024 15:55

ConnieCounter · 10/04/2024 15:39

No, my opinions on Israelis generally has no bearing on my posts. I just can't abide genocide and those who defend it.

Port of Asdod hasn't been closed to aid but has also been plagued by protesters blocking aid trucks and racially abusing Palestinian truck drivers

Aid shipments to Asdod often disappear into a black hole - see upthread was discussed at length Turkish dry goods and US flour - were they ever delivered after months of faffing/obstruction

Gaza aid shipments to resume soon, Cyprus says, as 1,000 tons of food await delivery

'Soon' means sometime after 1st May

'' With that jetty in place, Cyprus expects aid to resume soon, Cypriot president Nikos Christodoulides said.''

So not 'incorrect'

Mags48 · 10/04/2024 15:20

I find it disgusting that protesters are blocking the crossings too. How devoid of humanity do you need to be to block food going to a starving population?

Efacsen · 10/04/2024 15:17

''Israel said 468 aid trucks were moved into Gaza on Tuesday, the highest since the conflict began. That followed 419 on Monday. But the Red Crescent and United Nations have given much lower figures, with the UN saying many trucks were only half full because of Israeli inspection rules, according to Reuters.''

US is continuing to monitor for reversal of famine indicators

Mags48 · 10/04/2024 15:15

The aid has only significantly increased because Israel has control of all of the crossings and has blocked / severely limited aid that is allowed in. They’ve only started to allow more aid in because Biden & co have piled on the pressure given the risk of imminent famine.

Hardly a reason to congratulate Israel given that they are the reason people are being starved to death.

Israeli army setting up new border crossing, not opening Erez: Report

The Israeli army is currently establishing a new border crossing to bring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip “and at this stage is giving up on opening the Erez crossing, fearing it will be blocked by Israeli protesters”.
This is according to Israeli Army Radio correspondent Doron Kadosh.

The Israeli military hopes the location of the new crossing, to be built in northern Gaza, but in a less central location, will make it difficult for protesters to block the entry of aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave, he reported.

Gaza aid shipments to resume soon, Cyprus says, as 1,000 tons of food await delivery

'Soon' means sometime after 1st May

That is incorrect, aid is already arriving,

The opening of the Erez Crossing and the Port of Ashdod have led to significant increases in the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip.
According to COGAT, 468 aid trucks entered Gaza yesterday,(9 April) the highest total since the beginning of the war. This follows 419 on Monday and 322 on Sunday.
