Hamas refusing ceasefire??????

So President Biden is under the impression that a ceasefire could be in place by the weekend ....

Queue celebration (presumably) by all those that march on the streets calling for a ceasefire.

Then we find our Hamas have problems with it!!!!! The same Hamas that are supposed to be acting in their people's intsrests

We now know who really does not want to engage in ceasefire talks and release hostages. We now know who the ire of all those marchers in London should be directed against.

I feel Hamas want this war to continue as is as they are thriving on the sympathy the war is bringing to Palestinians. The more global 'support' is demonstrated the more they feel they have a chance of being part of a post war peace

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/06/middleeast/hamas-agrees-ceasefire-proposal-israel-gaza-latam-intl/index.html

This article makes the extremely important observation that It's unclear whether Hamas has agreed to the most recent ceasefire proposal, as outlined last week, or a revised version of it because the Israeli govt still does not agree with a permanent ceasefire or complete withdrawal of troops as outlined in the original proposal, so could just be a Hamas ploy setting up Israel to fail at this point, rather than a genuine acceptance. Hopefully, it's genuine and a deal is reached swiftly.

Hamas accepts Gaza ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar | CNN

The group says Ismail Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau, has told Qatari and Egyptian mediators that it has agreed to their proposal for a ceasefire agreement.

That was the ground invasion / attack but the air strikes started few days after 7/10 didn’t they?

The airstrikes on Gaza started on October 7th, while the Hamas attack was still ongoing. By 23:59 GMT on October 7th:

  • ”At least 232 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip according to medical sources, launched after a Hamas offensive against Israel. At least 250 Israelis have been killed.
  • According to Hamas’s military wing, it has captured “several times greater” than dozens of Israelis.
  • Hamas, which runs Gaza, said its offensive is a response to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence. You can read more here on how Hamas’s offensive unfolded.
  • Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told residents of the besieged enclave to “leave now”, saying Israel’s forces “will turn all Hamas hideouts into rubble”.

I don’t think either side wants a ceasefire. I hate the butchers of Hamas as much as I despise the murderous Israeli leaders.

As I said at the very beginning of this conflict, nobody in power gives a shit about the ordinary Palestinian people.

But... I though Hamas were okay actually and only pretending to hate Jews because they were all emosh?

From Wikipedia

'On the evening of 27 October 2023, Israel launched a large-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip, with the stated goals of eliminating and destroying Hamas, a military and political movement which led an attack against Israel earlier in October, and to free hostages taken by Hamas.'

More from Wikipedia,

On 13 October 2023, the IDF sent armoured vehicles and infantry into the Gaza Strip, stating that their goals were to attack Hamas militants and to rescue hostages that had been abducted to Gaza by Hamas. The operation, according to Israeli officials, was not part of a larger and widely anticipated ground invasion, but rather a raid in which troops only temporarily enter the Gaza Strip. The IDF confirmed the same day that Israeli remains were located and retrieved in the Gaza Strip.[84]

On 21 October 2023, the Israeli army dropped more leaflets in Gaza with the message: "Urgent warning! To the residents of Gaza: your presence to the North of Wadi Gaza is putting your lives at risk. Anyone who chooses not to evacuate from the North of the Gaza Strip to the South of the Gaza Strip may be identified as a partner in a terrorist organization."

On the evening of 27 October, the IDF launched a large-scale ground assault on the towns of Beit Hanoun and Bureij in the Gaza Strip.

Did you read my link?

Or you can look at the numerous other reports, images, videos and stories everywhere you look online.

The bombing of innocent civilians and children was well under way well before Oct 27th.

Israel response to Oct 7
Eh? The IDF didn’t start attacking in Gaza till 27th Oct???

Think you need to read back on this.

Snowypeak · 29/02/2024 11:27

Gazan civilians and children were being bombed and killed in large numbers almost immediately.

Cut the whitewashing!!

That interview was given just over 3 weeks after the attack of 7/10. Hardly when the IDF were "at the peak of bombing". The IDF did not started their attack on Hamas in Gaza until 27/10/23.

And how can anyone sure they won't change their mind again?

.

Snowypeak · 29/02/2024 09:38

Although it certainly looks to me as if Israel is killing thousands of Palestinians and taking over Palestine.

Snowypeak · 29/02/2024 09:36

@Mothercareyschickenhut
Thank you.

So the US are optimistic about a proposal that Hamas has not yet received.

Hamas wants Israel to withdraw from Gaza and the West Bank. For civilians and aid to be allowed back to Northern Gaza.

Ultimately its goal is for Gaza and the West Bank to be united under one government which will be transparently elected by the people. The international community will be allowed to monitor the election process.

Bit different from Israel’s view that Hamas wants to kill all Jews and take over Israel?

Mothercareyschickenhut · 29/02/2024 07:18

What's the difference? Isn't a ceasefire then end of the war??

I don't get it.🙄

Not if the ceasefire is temporary.

Sunflowering · 29/02/2024 07:25

Of course Hamas don’t want a ceasefire. The whole point of 7/10 was to provoke a disproportionate reaction from Israel.

Mothercareyschickenhut · 29/02/2024 07:18

blackcherryconserve · 27/02/2024 16:20

I think I heard on the BBC at lunchtime that Hamas doesn't want a ceasefire but an ending of the war. No mention is made of the 130 Israeli hostages they hold.

What's the difference? Isn't a ceasefire then end of the war??

I don't get it.🙄

Hamas are a distinct military (albeit terrorist) body and are obviously organised enough to engage in negotiations and to order their fighters to stop or continue fightng. I agree with posters who say that negotiation theory here is the same as any other war and both sides ultimately will only come to a settlement when they feel their goals are met.

The question is why Hamas continue to fight (as they presume there is an advantage to do doing so) if they feel there is a 'genocide'. To my mind that doesn't make sense. Hamas are probably now buried within a concentrated civilian population as a military tactic with the hope of any more civilian casualties acting as political leverage for the international community to put pressure on Israel.

There at would stop quickly in my opinion if there was other governance to Hamas is Gaza and possibly Hamas may become so weakened that there will be internal revolt and a group more inclined to pace may emerge to come to a settlement. I do not know how realistic this is though.

In addition we have had no figures about how many Hamas fighters are included in casualty figures and the press should try and estimate this as it will be a large figure as obviously Hamas are losing as a military force. Figures would emphasise the fact this is an on going war, and it is important to view it as a war with two opposing militaries and ultimately some sort of perhaps negotiated resolution.

I continue to find it hard to understand how people can genuinely believe that hamas can be destroyed by destroying gaza.
It is a terrorist organisation, as much an idea as a group of actual people.
The whole place can be destroyed, every last person dead or left. Doesn't mean hamas will be no more.
In fact all that happens is more people grow up hating Israel. They might lay low for a while, but they'll still be there.

I’m not sure they do believe it, I think they pretend to, in order to justify the total destruction of Gaza and the genocide.
