Interesting situation: side by side placement of the flags.

It’s the bit, should a person on stage start arguing with the crowd? Should members of the audience object to flags on stage?

@Humdingerydoo I'm not adamant this one person is telling the truth. I literally said I don't know exactly what happened as I wasn't there. All I'm saying is from what we've heard so far I don't see any evidence of antisemitism. I've also said if evidence does come out that he was being antisemitic then I will condemn him.

Fussandmisery · 14/02/2024 21:58

I agree the audience member shouldn’t of equated the Palestinian flag with Hamas (after all Palestinians are not all terrorists any more than Israelis are all genocide supporters).

If he was Israeli it must of come as a shock to see it though and the comedian yelling at him to get out is harassment at the very least.

Edited

THANK YOU!!!

(Although there is zero evidence to suggest he equated it with Hamas. That's just people on here making assumptions.)

@Humdingerydoo Ok so she thought he said he hated the show when he actually said he enjoyed the show. She admits she couldn't hear exactly what was being said. Other than that her version of events are similar to everyone else's.

Except for the bits where they minimise what followed. And as they lied earlier in the quote, I have no reason to believe they didn't continue to do so throughout.

I'm really not sure why you're so adamant that this one person who couldn't see or hear what was going on is the one telling the truth. Can't you see how ridiculous that is?

You can't imagine why a Jewish person sitting in a crowd of people clapping and/or cheering for the Palestinian flag would feel threatened?

It’s a Palestinian flag what’s so threatening about it? It’s the legal flag of Palestine . not Hamas ,

And why was the issue just with one flag but not the other?

“The young man, who we discovered soon after was Israeli, replied: ‘I enjoyed your show until you brought out the Palestinian Authority flag.’”
The audience member claimed Currie told the man: “Get out of my show. Get the fuck out of here. Fuck off, get the fuck out of here.”

the Audience member sounded so entitled and petulant as well as the comedian , both were dickheads .
A non story , people desperately trying to blow out of proportions.

@Humdingerydoo How do you know it was a lie? I'm not saying it definitely happened this way or not. I don't know as I wasn't there. You're very quick to accuse me of supporting a certain narrative but it seems like you are doing the same.

Like I said earlier, if it turns out the comedian has said something antisemitic then I will condemn him along with the rest of you but from what we know so far I don't see anything antisemitic in what happened.

When every other person interviewed, even those who think Paul Currie is somehow innocent of any wrongdoing, don't mention that he said he hated the show (and in fact, seems to have said he enjoyed it until the flags were brought out) it's safe to assume they're not all lying and that this one person who admits they couldn't even hear what was being said isn't giving an accurate depiction of events.

inkworks273 · 14/02/2024 21:45

@1dayatatime He wasn't encouraging a standing ovation for the Palestinian flag. He was encouraging a standing ovation for his show.

"I think Paul’s position is understandable if not laudable… I think he is very brave.’"

+++

So as per my previous posts Mr Currie "encouraged a standing ovation" before questioning why one man had remained seated.
The audience member reportedly said he had enjoyed the show until the Palestinian flag had been displayed.
Mr Currie then "erupted" and told him to "get out", the man added.

This is neither understandable or brave and most certainly not "brave".

It is the behaviour of extremist bullies intent on whipping up hatred.

Humdingerydoo · 14/02/2024 21:16

inkworks273 · 14/02/2024 21:07

@Humdingerydoo Isn't that what the person who was thrown out claims happened too? He was asked why he wasn't standing, he said because of the Palestinian flag and was then thrown out. Isn't that what happened?

That person you were quoting added on a bit. But you know that.

"They said something along the lines that they hated the show and they didn’t like the Palestinian flag. There might have been more but it was hard to hear, as I was in the middle of the room and they were at the front."

I put the lie in bold for you so you hopefully don't miss it this time 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

So again, it makes you wonder what other lies or harmful exaggerations are in that quote.

Here is an account from an audience member who was there. Personally I can understand that emotions are running high and that is why he erupted the way he did. Watching 12,000 children being brutally murdered will do that to some people. I think accusing him of antisemitism is disingenuous.

"I feel compelled to write this as I have seen through lots of channels that Paul is being labelled as antisemitic for his actions on Saturday. I believe it is important to share my account of what happened, especially within the context of one who has seen him perform before.
Most of Paul’s show is completely random – crazy sketches stacked on top of each other with some hilarious audience participation which had the crowd eating out of his hand. Close to the end of the show, Paul held up first a Ukrainian flag and then a Palestinian flag. To me this creates a sense of anti-war and pacificism more than anything else, and the crowd cheered.
He held up a Ukrainian flag during the Edinburgh Festival, and was therefore extending the same message he was putting out before the (awful) attack of Hamas and Israel’s ongoing bombing of Gaza.
At the end of the show Paul got a standing ovation. He always speaks at the end of Shtoom, a silent show. He noticed two members of the audience on the front row who were not standing up and made a joke about asking them why. They said something along the lines that they hated the show and they didn’t like the Palestinian flag. There might have been more but it was hard to hear, as I was in the middle of the room and they were at the front.
Paul was angered by this and told them to get out of the room. He then started chanting "ceasefire now" and much of the audience joined in. He then gave a passionate speech in which he condemned the actions of Hamas, but also those of Israel. He made a comparison with his hometown, Belfast. He said if the British Government had had a similar reaction to the IRA, as Israel had to Hamas, he would not be here. He spoke of the great waste of life we have seen – how many artists, doctors etc that have been lost in Gaza, and how awful that is.
While his action of telling audience members to leave is strong, to say they were antisemitic is untrue. His criticism was with the actions of a government, the actions which are currently under investigation by an international court of law for genocide. What has been happening in Gaza has been really hard for all of us to witness and emotions are running high.
I think Paul’s position is understandable, if not laudable (he defended an oppressed group), and given the backlash he seems to be facing (he has received some very hurtful messages on Instagram amongst other places) for purporting a message of an end to violence, I think he is very brave."

etmoiandme · 14/02/2024 21:05

So you misrepresented the incident was stating it was the audience member making the fuss whereas it was Mr Currie making the fuss followed by whipping up the audience in anti semetic bullying reminiscent of a Nuremberg rally.

And this is why the flag itself is such a red herring and non-story compared to what happened to the audience member, because this, as described by @1dayatatime is what Jews are seeing, and it's pretty fucking frightening. And the posters going to great lengths to tell us what we're witnessing is not happening actually and let me tell you why (usually misinformation or goading), is just gaslighting, at best.

Humdingerydoo · 14/02/2024 21:05

@inkworks273 So the person you're quoting couldn't actually hear what was being said yet claims to be telling the truth? And you're just accepting that?

@SammyScrounge

What is equally sinister is the posters that then try to misrepresent the events in order to blame the victims of group think abuse.

It really is reminiscent of the 1930s.

SammyScrounge · 14/02/2024 20:38

Shelaugh · 14/02/2024 11:52

Yeah I mean this is literally what totalitarian states do: force people to salute/applaud/stand for a flag or symbol. That’s why images of Nazi Germany of full of people doing the hitler salute.

Yes. Ever seen the Soviet Union conferences presided over by Stalin? He always got a standing ovation after his speech and nobody wanted to be the first to stop clapping in case Stalin noticed and thought him disloyal -.so the clapping went on and on and on...10 minutes or more while.Stalin beamed.
This comedian Currie tried something of the same type: present his views to a compliant audience, abuse persons who don't comply with group think, who aren't sheep -baa baa baa on command - and who will not back down. So that person must be removed. How sinister that sounds! How fortunate the comedian didn't have a gang of thugs with him!
Then there is another less serious issue but real too - people paid money to see a show and what they got was a political stunt, a baying mob, and volleys of foul language.
Currie was like those climate protesters who interfere with and disrupt the everyday activities of the public. And he wasn't even funny.

1dayatatime · 14/02/2024 20:29

@inkworks273

OK let me put your misrepresentation into simple terms. You posted the following:

"What reason would someone have to object to the display of the Palestinian flag?"

"@Comedycook The person couldn't have felt that threatened considering they were the one making a fuss about it being displayed."

Whereas and as per my post Mr Currie "encouraged a standing ovation" before questioning why one man had remained seated.
The audience member reportedly said he had enjoyed the show until the Palestinian flag had been displayed.
Mr Currie then "erupted" and told him to "get out", the man added.

So you misrepresented the incident was stating it was the audience member making the fuss whereas it was Mr Currie making the fuss followed by whipping up the audience in anti semetic bullying reminiscent of a Nuremberg rally.

How deluded do you have to be to think that the state with a huge military, nukes and a thriving economy is currently being wiped out by impoverished people suffering a deliberate man made famine who are having to resort to eating grass to survive.

Clearly not as deluded as you. Long live Israel 🇮🇱
