Interesting situation: side by side placement of the flags.

It’s the bit, should a person on stage start arguing with the crowd? Should members of the audience object to flags on stage?

Soho theatre bans comedian after ‘verbal abuse’ of Jewish audience members

@Humdingerydoo I don't think I'm wrong though. A genocide supporter was told to leave a theatre. That doesn't outrage me in the least. As I said earlier, if more evidence comes out that proves that he was thrown out because he was Jewish then I will condemn the comedian. Until then I don't have much more to say on the matter.

He's not a 'genocide supporter' just because he wouldn't stand and clap the Palestinian flag!

He was abused and driven from the theatre because he was Israeli and probably Jewish. Some of the theatre joined in the heckling and helped drive him out. Others in the row behind were upset and left.

Go through this thread and you will see credible reports from different news outlets stating that a report from a witness was made, a complaint made. The theatre apologised for the treatment of the Jewish man. The comedian is not welcome back the the theatre. The Metropolitan police are investigating the abuse as a possible hate crime/anti semitism.

What's there to go around in circles about.

If you don't condemn what you appear to think is nothing, then it grows and grows and you have hatred you see today.

Ps I also condemn the killing of innocents, before you go off on that circle.

@Humdingerydoo Just the fact that he said he enjoyed the show up until the point that the Palestinian flag was displayed. He refused to clap for the comedian not because he didn't enjoy his show but because he didn't like the flag. That doesn't sound like a person who is supportive of the Palestinian people and their plight.

So what you're saying is, you have zero evidence that he's a genocide supporter? In which case, please stop accusing him of being one and please start condemning Paul Currie's despicable behaviour.

So much obsession and cit blaming.

Bizarre. And not just a wee bit worrying.

@etmoiandme It has nothing to do with him being Israeli. I have a problem with anyone who supports what Israel is doing in Gaza no matter where they are from.

Please provide proof that the audience member was showing support for any kind of genocide anywhere in the world when he was hounded out of the theater.

If I were you, I'd cease with the unsubstantiated slander directed at the audience member. It's getting beyond ridiculous now.

Firstly, there is to date no proof there is a genocide. A verdict has not yet been reached.

Secondly, there is no proof the audience member supports anything going on in Gaza, regardless of whether or not it's genocide.

Someone doesn't have to be hounded out of a theater for being Jewish for it to be a wholly inappropriate thing to have happened. There is plenty for you to condemn without it having been an antisemitic act.

"Genocide supporter"? You spelled "Israeli citizen" wrong and your rhetoric is dangerous.

I guess I just have other things to be outraged about. This isn't even really a blimp on the radar for me compared to everything else going on.

Like the other poster said we're just going round in circles now so I will leave it at that.

It clearly is a major blip on the radar for you since you have spent 24 hours arguing about it and trying to minimise it while defending the offender.

It's ok to just admit that you were wrong rather than pretend you now think we're going around in circles when actually, you have simply run out of excuses. I tell my primary school age child all the time that it's better to just admit you're wrong rather than keep coming up with more excuses all the time.

Humdingerydoo · 15/02/2024 07:19

@inkworks273 it's not ok to harass and intimidate someone for not giving a standing ovation. Regardless of the reason for the man not standing up, Paul Currie's actions are indefensible, yet here you are, still attempting to defend and excuse it.

The Israeli man had a right not to stand up. Paul Currie had no right to act the way he did.

@inkworks273

"Would you clap for a banner stating "bring the hostages home"?"

Of course I would. Why wouldn't I? T

On another thread you said 'you hoped the IDF pay for everything they have done'

Some of the hostages are members of the IDF including women.

Doesn't sound like you would be doing much clapping?

In my comment you're referring to I was talking about the IDF soldiers who forced clinicians to leave the hospital at gun point, assuring them that help would be given to the babies they were treating, and then just left them to die a slow painful death.

When I said I hope they pay for what they have done I was talking about the solders who did that. I hope all soldiers who have committed war crimes pay for what they have done.

It doesn't mean I don't want the hostages released. Be they soldiers or civilians.

so I see this comedian is from NI and thinks that gives him some special insight into the Israel/Gaza situation.
He is comparing the IRA with Hamas. However bad the IRA were they didn't carry out depraved massacres of civilians, using sexual violence, or call for the abolition of mainland Britain.

I can't believe people aren't completely chilled by this story. What were the other audience members thinking, too busy signalling they are on the correct side to reflect on history.

This.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 15/02/2024 03:04

The venue said Jewish attenders were “subjected to verbal abuse”.
In a statement, the theatre said Currie “aggressively demanded” Jewish members of the audience leave. “Such appalling actions are unacceptable and have no place on our stages, now or ever,” it said. “We will not be inviting Paul Currie back to perform at our venue.”
Currie was approached for comment.
According to a witness who gave an account to the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), Currie placed a Ukrainian and a Palestinian flag on the stage, and later in the show invited audience members to stand and applaud.
The Metropolitan police said on Monday it was aware of the incident and that inquiries were ongoing.

Soho Theatre have banned him.

Good. Tge should ban tge baying audience members too.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 15/02/2024 02:59

It WASN'T about the flags, what rubbish.

The man didn't stand and clap the flags, his choice. The 'comedian ' started abusing him. Told him to leave the fucking theatre. Encouraged inciment of hatred. The crowd joined in. The men felt intimidated.

A few in the row behind realised it was wrong and also left.

The ones joining in also showed hatred for a man in the UK who was nothing to do with the war. They poured hate on him because he was Jewish.

Disgusting behaviour from lots of the audience and the comedian should be charged by the police for a hate crime.

Not really.

@Humdingerydoo I don't have a problem with anyone who believes Israel has the right to exist. I only have a problem with people who believe Israel has the right to do what it is currently doing to the Palestinians.

So you yourself don’t believe Israel has the right to exist, you just don’t have a problem with anyone who does? Ok then.

@inkworks273 I have written this on both of your threads to be clear.
'May they all pay for what they have done'
Members of the IDF are hostages.

I don't understand? Can you clarify?
