Interesting situation: side by side placement of the flags.

It’s the bit, should a person on stage start arguing with the crowd? Should members of the audience object to flags on stage?

What reason would someone have to object to the display of the Palestinian flag?

This isn't about a display of the Palestinian flag. Nobody here is complaining that a private individual is displaying any foreign flag on their own private property.

This is a comedy show. It is not a place to fly flags. It is outrageous to demand that audience members who have come to watch a show stand in ovation to any flag. It is even more outrageous to single out and argue with and heckle audience members who refuse to do so.

inkworks273 · 14/02/2024 11:36

@Humdingerydoo No that is absolutely not what I am saying.

I would never generalise an entire group like that.

Displaying flags from other countries at war in Britain is a mistake. Britain is diverse and has people from many different cultures and it's polarising to display something that suggests taking a side.

The Palestinian people are not at war though are they? They are being penned in like animals and having bombs dropped on them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with people in Britain showing support for them by displaying the Palestinian flag.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I’ll wait to see if more information comes out before forming an opinion. Like did Paul Currie know the person was Jewish? If the person was hounded out because he was Jewish then that is abhorrent. On the other hand, if he was hounded out because he is a genocide supporter then I’d say that’s fair enough.

Yes, you do so. You sit around and wait and give Paul Currie the benefit of the doubt.

But to clarify, are you saying that if he was hounded out for being Israeli that's ok because all Israelis are genocide supporters? 🤔

No, that's not what happened. The "comedian" demanded an answer from the Israeli so he then gave one. He didn't make a fuss. He just sat down quietly.

In the end it wasn’t about flags. An Israeli was threatened by the performer and the crowd and had to leave the theatre. Jews used to feel that this was a safe country. Now we have non-Jewish friends offering us sanctuary if we need it and we are threatened in the street , on campus and in theatres. There is a difference between supporting Ukraine and supporting terrorists. How would you expect the government to react if your loved ones were massacred at Glastonbury?

I would be horrified and sickened if my government responded to that by indiscriminately killing tens upon tens of thousands of civilians, half of them children.

People are not supporting terrorists. They are supporting Palestinian civilians.

Murdered by Hamas, it was a Palestinian flag not a Hamas flag. They are very different.

In the same way that, based on what I have read so far, Curry’s rant was anti Israeli, not antisemitic.

Maybe your brother/cousin/friend was just murdered by them?

And they STILL want to murder you.

@Comedycook The person couldn't have felt that threatened considering they were the one making a fuss about it being displayed.

They weren't making a fuss. He was picked on by the (so-called) comedian and asked why he didn't stand up and give an ovation.

I don't know if they felt threatened or not.

But I would have. Is that ok with you?

Ok and who gave that quote? On what show? At what time?

What reason would someone have to object to the display of the Palestinian flag?

You can't imagine why a Jewish person sitting in a crowd of people clapping and/or cheering for the Palestinian flag would feel threatened?

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/02/2024 11:06

Humdingerydoo · 14/02/2024 11:05

Where was that quoted? I haven't seen that anywhere. I just saw that the Israeli guy said, when it was demanded of him, that he had thought the show was enjoyable until the Palestinian flag was brought out.

That clearly was the starting point for the argument.

The person was quoted as saying that they found the Palestinian flag offensive.

Ironic since Russia backed the Hamas led attacks.

I was shocked by this story and hope it's the end of PCs career. But unfortunately I don't think it'll happen.

It won’t end his career. He’ll be even more successful but with a particular niche audience as he will frame himself as a victim.

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/02/2024 10:57

etmoiandme · 14/02/2024 09:50

He wasn't just arguing with the crowd. He was abusing one member of that crowd. The side by side placement of flags isn't the story here but it's "interesting" that you think it is.

That clearly was the starting point for the argument.

I don't think the main issue with this was the flags. A bigger issue was the verbal abuse and mob mentality directed towards members of the public. It's not ok to incite and lead a crowd in intimidating innocent people.

I agree I don’t think the performer should have got into an argument with members of the audience. I don’t believe it should have reached that level.

So by your definition all Palestinians are terrorists?

I actually feel heart broken that “my loved one” are being bombed non stop with no safety in their own land.
