Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

This is so boring at this stage. Absolutely nobody on this thread is denying Israels right to exist. It exists, its there. They are saying that Israel don’t have the right to be tyrannical illegal occupiers. Israel don't have the right to commit war crimes. Israel don't have the right to starve millions of people also known as collective punishment which is a crime against humanity. Israel has the same rights as every other country and the right to commit atrocities isn't one of them. That is what people are not standing up for, Israels right to abuse, maim, starve and occupy. There are no rights that allow you to do that.

Actually, a lot of posters on this board have openly said they don't believe in Israel's right to exist. Those posts get reported and deleted though.

But I'm glad to hear you support Israel's right to exist!

NotTerfNorCis · 10/02/2024 20:01

No humane person could support Israel's actions now - and a lot of its actions in the past.

Are those actions the necessary price of Israel existing?

I don't think so. But if so - something is very, very wrong with this situation.

I don't think it is a case of "boring" but more a case of polarisation of views on both sides that become ever more extremist with a big dollop of conspiracy theories thrown in as well.

This sadly has two effects of a) making any peaceful compromise solution impossible to achieve and b) turning most people off the topic as they start to see both sides as extremists.

Very well said.

If you mean is anyone still supporting Israel's right to exist then yes, I'm still supporting Israel. Do you not support Israel's right to exist or something?

Have I wandered onto the wrong thread? Thought this one was about standing with Israel.

@Ladyjanegreysketle

"Sorry but I think your message is ambiguous.

To clarify - I believe you mean 31% of Muslims think that leaving the faith (Islam) should be punishable by death as 'Apostasy'."

Apologies as I can see how it is was worded somewhat confusingly.

What I was trying to reference is that there are indeed differences in attitudes towards religion rather than differences in actual law or implementation.

In the example of apostasy, it is the case that in different countries varying numbers of Muslims believe that apostasy from the faith should be punishable by death. Of course whether that happens in practice or is legal is another matter.

For example in a July 2007 poll by the Policy Exchangee* think-tank revealed that 31% of British Muslims believed that leaving the Muslim religion should be punishable by death. Whereas in say Afghanistan it is more like 90% but in Kazakhstan it is only 5%.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ApostasyinnIslambyycountry

So it was more a point on differing attitudes to religion itself and by comparison there is no such crime of apostasy in say Christianity or Hinduism.

I stand with the people of Palestine. I hope one day soon they will be free from the brutal Israeli occupation of their land.

I've never understood how this works. Surely the land was originally occupied by the Jewish people who were then driven out to live a nomadic life that resulted in centuries of persecution? Isn't that the point of Israel, to offer a homeland to the returning people?

Isn't that the reason or why would Jewish people settle in a place surrounded by Muslims who hate them and want them eradicated?

Ladyjanegreysketle · 10/02/2024 08:02

1dayatatime · 10/02/2024 00:09

Well I guess there are Christians that support Israel and Christians that don't.

And of course there are differences in attitudes between Christians and Muslims. For example 31% of Christians do not believe that leaving the Christian faith should be punishable by death.

Sorry but I think your message is ambiguous.

To clarify - I believe you mean 31% of Muslims think that leaving the faith (Islam) should be punishable by death as 'Apostasy'.

As of 2021, there were ten Muslim-majority countries where apostasy from Islam was punishable by death but legal executions are rare. Most punishment is extra-judicial/vigilante, and most executions are perpetrated by jihadist and "takfiri" insurgents (al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, the GIA, and the Taliban).

Another thirteen countries have penal or civil penalties for apostates – such as imprisonment, the annulment of their marriages, the loss of their rights of inheritance and the loss of custody of their children.

From Wikipedia.

There is, of course, no earthly punishment for Apostasy in Christianity.

Not very Christian of the other 69%, really.

@Limeandsodaontherocks Well, peace to all is my hope. Probably it's everybody's hope/ I am very sad at what has happened to Israel. I know how hard they worked to build the country, the dream of a refuge after WW2, the love they have for Israel. I imagine they are terrified of an attack from any quarter, and that they can't accept neighbours like Hamas after Oct 7th. I simply can not accept the suffering of Palestinians on this terrible scale as any kind of solution to all these issues, however.

Limeandsodaontherocks · 09/02/2024 22:06

stormy4319trevor · 09/02/2024 22:00

@Limeandsodaontherocks Haha, yes, me too!

Yes - fair enough. But I’m here to speak up for the Israelis who feel threatened on all sides ( whereas I think you are speaking up for Palestinians who are suffering terribly)
I respect your view and understand it. I hope some people on here will start to see that Israelis also have a legitimate reason to feel afraid.

@MamaAlwaysknowsbest I'm curious, what did you mean by Christians support Israel?

You can visit a UK website, called Christians for Israel and see for yourself

I still don't understand why that means you were annoyed about the churches but not any other buildings?

And I suppose I'm curious about the dead people too. What are you saying Christians think about them? Is that something that's considered ok?

stormy4319trevor · 09/02/2024 21:59

There are all sorts of Christians, @MamaAlwaysknowsbest ! I'm one myself. I support the rights of children and human rights, not pro any side. It seems clear to me that nobody should have to go through what Palestinians have endured. Christ made it clear that harming children is a grievous sin, but I don't think you need to be a Christian to know that. I expect there are some evangelical groups or other who have their own reasons for being pro-Israel, as you put it. But they are not the whole of Christianity.

Because Christians support Israel but they bombed even churches.

Oh please… as if it’s not enough to stereotype Muslims and Jews … you’ve got to start on the Christians now …
