Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

Goodness he sounds like a bond villain monologuing his master plan.

Still standing with Israel.

LilaDidIt · 27/02/2024 11:08

It's also worth mentioning what he said about Hamas (in a 2015 interview): "The Palestinian Authority is a burden, and Hamas is an asset" [for Israel] because while the Palestinian Authority is damaging Israel in international forums, Hamas' status as a terrorist organisation means that "no one will recognize it, no one will give it status at the [International Criminal Court], no one will let it put forth a resolution at the U.N. Security Council".

In response to the "but Hamas" folk:

The assault on Gaza has been in the cards for many, many years. Bezalel Smotrich, a key player in Natanyahu’s government, spells out its purpose very clearly in in his “Decisive Plan” from 2017 (i.e. 6 years before October 7th). Note: he is also the leader who said publicly that returning hostages was “not the most important thing”.

Here’s what he thinks the most important thing is (quoted word for word, my emphasis in bold):

"The first and most important stage in the decisive "One Hope" plan will involve settlement. At this stage we will establish the most important basic fact: We are here to stay. We will make it clear that our national ambition for a Jewish State from the river to the sea is an accomplished fact, a fact not open to discussion or negotiation.

This stage will be realized via a political-legal act of imposing sovereignty on all Judea and Samaria [the West Bank and Gaza], and with concurrent acts of settlement: the establishment of cities and towns, the laying down of infrastructure as is customary in "little" Israel and the encouragement of tens and hundreds of thousands of residents to come live in Judea and Samaria. In this way, we will be able to create a clear and irreversible reality on the ground.
Nothing would have a greater and deeper effect on the consciousness of the Arabs of Judea and Samaria, deflating their illusions of a Palestinian state and demonstrating the impossibility of establishing another Arab state west of the Jordan. Facts on the ground deflate aspirations and defeat ambitions. Let the settlement blocs attest to this.
The development of Israeli settlement in Judea and Samaria in a sovereign and established manner will also contribute to solving the housing shortage in the State of Israel. Many state lands in Judea and Samaria in the center of the country can be made available at much lower prices than the average property within the Green Line, thus increasing the supply of affordable housing in Israel by hundreds of thousands of units.
Of course, it won't happen overnight. It will take time, especially since we have foolishly spent the last three decades cultivating the illusion that an Arab state can become a reality. After years of acquiescence to the universal adoption of the "two-state solution” paradigm it is natural, as noted, that some time is required to convince the same world that it isn’t going to happen, and to demonstrate that we have rethought our path and that we are determined that a Palestinian state will not emerge. But this is what we must do, thus leaving no purpose left for terror."

The link to his plan is here.

The PP was saying that Israel is not a democracy because of the watercannons. Despite the fact that they have a democratically elected government.

Israel is not a democracy because of the watercannons.
Once again this is not what I said. I said the water cannons were used against anti government protestors, which is not democratic.
Please read this article.
Israeli authorities are investigating after police crack down on anti-government protesters in Tel Aviv (jweekly.com)
Despite the fact that they have a democratically elected government.
Plenty of dictators were democratically elected to start with ( Chad/ Syria/ Italy with Mussolini and Hitler in Germany, and let's not forget Hamas, of course). There are plenty of others too.
Finally, let's not forget the * protesters that rallied in Tel Aviv against plans by the right-wing coalition government to overhaul the judiciary because t*he reforms would make it easier for parliament to overturn Supreme Court rulings, among other things. Benjamin Netanyahu's proposed changes were viewed as an attack on democratic rule.

You said it...human shields, telling people to stay where they are instead of moving away from areas of military activity, hiding hostages in ambulances, refugee camps, schools, hospitals.

Their spokesman denying 7/10 happened in a phone interview on panorama and useful idiots prepared to believe him because they say Israel lies.

Meanwhile the rockets keep coming over Israel but at least they protect their citizens with shelters and shields. Sinwar the instigator of this has fled the country to leave his people to die. He and many others were released for one Israeli soldier. That's quite an exchange rate, and he paid it back on 7/10. I believe he was in prison for killing Palestinians suspected of working with Israel. Apparently he buried one of them alive. Makes netanyahu look like a moderate.

But hamas indeed.

Human shields? so the IDF know this is happening but attack anyway, even when they know its their own people in the line of fire.

The area is too small too heavily populated for a full military operation, unless the aim is to drive the Gazans across into Egypt.

Rockets are still coming across from Gaza? then this does prove that removing Hamas is a pipe dream, more young Palestinians will just grow up hating Israel & will reform a new "Hamas"

Fussandmisery · 27/02/2024 09:08

Makes netanyahu look like a moderate.
I wouldn’t go that far.

Fussandmisery · 27/02/2024 09:07

Also, anyone else note how it's only ever the anti-Israel posters who refer to Palestinians as "subhuman" and say they're not worth as much as Israelis?
No, can’t say I have. Why would pro Palestinians believe Palestinians are worth less than Israelis?

Deliberately starving 2,3 million innocent people - let alone all the other stuff

Ever heard the expression 2 wrongs don't make a right?

Don't know how we got onto is Israel a democracy but in the fullness of time, we will come to wonder why we stood by and let so many innocent people die.

As the Sec Gen of the UN has said what is happening there is "Collective Punishment of the Palestinians"

How can anyone stand up for Israel when they kill so many innocent people? whole families wiped out as they shelter in areas the IDF has told them to move to in order to be safe.

The terror of 7/10 does not justify the deaths of so many people.

The answer to your question is simple: "but Hamas".

At least my words are based in fact.

Israel is a democracy. Gaza is not a part of Israel. Anything happening in Gaza, no matter how awful and horrendous, doesn't change the fact that Israel is a democracy.

Yes a lot of Jewish people and Palestinians are working for peace together.

7/10 helped nobody...but hamas knew that, a sustainable peace would have a terrible effect on their income streams.

Maybe stay away from a thread that says 'standing up for Israel' if it upsets you so much, unless you're going to add something constructive towards the 'peacemaking' you claim to crave and not inflammatory accusations.

Committing genocide in an apartheid-state for the last 75 years.

I stand with the Palestinians and anyone, obviously including Israelis, that wants peace.

Thank you @Hagpie 🙏 don't know why I subject myself to these threads. I've been largely avoiding mumsnet in the last few months as I felt an undercurrent of racism in the more political threads but am heartened by comments and posters such as yourself.

Democracies do not have different rules for different groups of people. Democracies do not deliberately starve 2 million people, killing/wounding over a 100,000 people in 140 days (and that's just in Gaza alone). Say whatever you wish, but Israel's actions speak far louder than your words.

Israel not being a democracy has nothing to do with the water cannons that were used, and everything to do with the fact that they are military occupiers of another nation, as outlined succinctly in this recent clip.
(And btw, Palestinian protestors there get teargas and rubber bullets - I think water is too precious a commodity in the region to waste on those who are perceived as subhuman).

No, Israel is still a democracy. Good try though.

Also, anyone else note how it's only ever the anti-Israel posters who refer to Palestinians as "subhuman" and say they're not worth as much as Israelis? Constantly putting words in people's mouths. Maybe they're projecting? 🤷🏻‍♀️
