From the Guardian 5 hours ago;

"UK suspends UNRWA support after Israeli allegations The UK has temporarily paused future funding of UNRWA, saying it is “appalled by allegations that UNRWA staff were involved in the 7 October attack against Israel”.
A statement sent to the Guardian by the UK’s foreign, commonwealth and development office said:
'The UK is appalled by allegations that UNRWA staff were involved in the 7 October attack against Israel, a heinous act of terrorism that the UK government has repeatedly condemned.

The UK is temporarily pausing any future funding of UNRWA whilst we review these concerning allegations.'

We remain committed to getting humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza who desperately need it."

"but more than just a tv channel"

No it's just a TV channel that earns money by sponsors/advertisers. The more 'scoops' they get, the more the viewing figures go up and the more they can charge their backers.

You can't apportion an altruistic rationale to a business organisation, just a profit motive.

Are you suggesting that they came to their conclusion in an attempt to land a "scoop"??

We are all aware of how TV channels happen to function. But you are dismissing the fact that if they were spouting false information then that would severely damage their reputation as journalists... They have based their findings on the actual evidence

Lanabigbanana · 07/02/2024 11:18

Of course they aren't recognised when they have no authority !

"Not recognised" as in people who happen to be pro-Israel do not recognise/believe in the evidence of their investigations.

I am obviously not claiming that Channel 4 (or Sky!) have some type of authority ~ that is kind of laughable to even suggest in all honesty!

based on your opinion rapes on 7-10 didn’t happen because

  1. You didn’t see videos of the rape
  2. An international court hasn’t said so

or these conditions only are required when it applies to Palestinians.

ps. I’m not denying the rapes. I’m just fed up of people that request proof of something happening in Palestine. When you display the proof they dismiss it but will happily accept anything that has happened in Israel and that Israel says because the conditions aren’t needed

Exactly what I was about to say, @ConnieCounter It is always the same when it comes to this ~ anything or anyone who happens to say different are suddenly not recognised

Of course they aren't recognised when they have no authority !

They are investigative journalists, not an international court, but more than just a tv channel and no doubt have passed on what they have found to the relevant agencies

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but it's a TV Channel, not an international court.

I think everyone is well aware that Channel 4 (and also Sky) are not an international court.

ConnieCounter · 07/02/2024 08:04

So pro Israeli posters only believe investigations by media channels when they find in favour of Israel's side of things? Is it? Because BBC Verify and others were touted around as very important when the pro-Israeli side thought they found in favour of their side of the hospital bomb/rocket story at the start of the conflict. They didn't, but truth doesn't seem to matter much for that side of the conflict.

Channel 4, as I'm sure you are aware, regularly performs investigations into some current subject matters. Sky News also does at times. (Edit to say this is for @Lanabigbanana as the post I'm replying to didn't appear.)

Interesting that this was designated as being a "terrorist organisation" by Israel... something that is specifically designed to help people.

@Kindatired "Puerile is the excuse that is being given by apologists for the soldiers shown singing and dancing in the ruins of the homes they have destroyed, oblivious as to whether there are human remains in the debris."

Interesting.

Try this.

Puerile was the excuse that was given by apologists for the Gazans shown singing and dancing on 9/11, oblivious as to whether there are human remains in the debris of the Twin Towers. The only difference is that the human remains were 5,000+ miles away,

@PeasfullPerson I genuinely can't see anything in @stomachameleon 's post that warranted that response?

Februaryfeels · 06/02/2024 23:24

stomachameleon · 06/02/2024 19:38

Does the moniker ' worlds most moral army' effect their ability to collect phone data? Do you have to be particularly moral for that?

Shall we add Hamas ' worlds most ruthless terrorists and rapists' every time we discuss this. It's all very puerile.

Why do posters keep adding that, I wonder

Is it on a checklist somewhere?

Kindatired · 06/02/2024 22:43

@stomachameleon “Being glued to social media makes you an expert in nothing. “ At least we agree on something. If you have friends and extended family in the IDF it is difficult to have them criticised but we will have to disagree. The videos I referred to were analysed by experts from the New York Times, a quality but very pro Israeli newspaper.

PeasfullPerson · 06/02/2024 22:09

That’s a new low for you @stomachameleon

Are you for real? You are seriously defending soldiers behaving that way? Can the Israeli government and the IDF do no wrong in your eyes? Why do you defend them so much?

@Kindatired where can I read that article?

stomachameleon · 06/02/2024 22:05

@Kindatired I think that it js naive and shows no idea of what it's like to serve In any war zone to expect soldiers to tip toe over the remnants of houses (whilst making sure they aren't shot or blown up) How would you suggest they get about?

How do you know what they are looking for? Being glued to social media makes you an expert in nothing.

Israel have said for years that unwra is compromised. Unwra themselves admitted they have had issues and I read an interview Today where the head of unwra said these people had caused damage to their work. I have seen evidence. Unwra deleted messages. The un said they had seen things. I Don't think it's unwra being infiltrated that bothers you so much but more that Israel is right to be suspicious.

Hamas knew what the reaction would be. The blood is on Hamas hands. Who does that to the women and children they represent? They are human shields to male terrorist egos.

Kindatired · 06/02/2024 21:13

@stomachameleon Puerile is the excuse that is being given by apologists for the soldiers shown singing and dancing in the ruins of the homes they have destroyed, oblivious as to whether there are human remains in the debris.
They are just clearing the area- I’m not an engineer but it’s petty obvious that this is not about finding tunnel entrances.
And the thing about mobile phone data is that it’s not actual physical evidence , is it? It’s absolutely credible that 12-13 people out of a workforce of 13,000 would be terrorists but who would rely on IDF when they’re failing so abysmally, have such a track record of misinformation, not allow journalists in and have a vested interest in discrediting UNWRA.
And killing and maiming and orphaning thousands of children is not the way to go even if Hamas are the worlds most ruthless terrorists and rapists. The children who have been killed weren’t rapists and murderers.

stomachameleon · 06/02/2024 19:38

Kindatired · 06/02/2024 19:08

@Lanabigbanana
So this is the evidence that the Israeli’s claim to have according to the source you quoted ” Israeli intelligence officers had established the movements of six of the men inside Israel on Oct. 7 based on their phones; others had been monitored while making phone calls inside Gaza during which, the Israelis say, they discussed their involvement in the Hamas attack.
Three others got text messages ordering them to report to muster points on Oct. 7, and one was told to bring rocket-propelled grenades stored at his home,”
So it’s phone evidence, collected by the worlds’s most moral army, the one that brought us Pegasus and Blue wolf , you know the one that shoots children who are running away or lying on the ground? The same paper has a 6 minute read about how the military engineers have run amok demolishing civilian infrastructure and behaving inappropriately
So sufficient to trigger an investigation but not really evidence to indicate that more than a tiny fraction of UNWRA workers were directly involved in 7/10 .
Israel wants to get rid of UNWRA because they want to eliminate the claim of right to return.

anotherlevel · 06/02/2024 13:39

@Livinginanotherworld
You seem to demand concrete evidence for some things but not for others which you blindly believe without evidence and on rumour and propaganda. It totally depends which one suits your rhetoric.

Exactly my point earlier too.

Livinginanotherworld · 06/02/2024 13:37

Lanabigbanana · 06/02/2024 11:16

And what have Channel 4 got to do with it?

The UN is the responsible body, surely ?

You seem to demand concrete evidence for some things but not for others which you blindly believe without evidence and on rumour and propaganda. It totally depends which one suits your rhetoric.

The Channel 4 report is very important, it seems there could be very little evidence, yet governments around the world including UK withdraw their funding, which in turn will see more deaths through starvation and disease. If this mean’s governments reverse their decisions whilst a larger body investigates then this is a good thing surely.

anotherlevel · 06/02/2024 13:35

This is what I’d expect from a formal complaint organisation to do , to investigate any accusations against their workers. It doesn’t mean the accusations are real , it means they’ll investigate and if they’re then they’ll act on those involve. That’s what I’d expect from any company

Agreed

EasterIssland · 06/02/2024 13:06

Lanabigbanana · 06/02/2024 12:49

So C4 and Sky News are now the adjudicators on this matter ??

Their opinions don't count for Jack.

The UN, on the other hand, is a different matter.
