Actually that is not true. I believe Hamas' original constitution referred to getting rid of the state of Israel but the one in force right now recognises Israel

The post that was quoted in the quoted post was mine, and I was referring to the statements made on Lebanese TV by a senior Hamas official along the lines of, "we will repeat 7th October over and over again."
I didn't mention their constitution (which incidentally I have never read and have no interest in doing so).

Desmond Doss was a brave man.
Anyone who puts themselves in harms way to save others - brave.
Hostages surviving their captivity - brave.
Gazans standing up to hamas - brave.

BuffaloDance2000 · 24/01/2024 23:22

Well done that young man for his bravery and wisdom, albeit being a pacifist does not seem likely to resolve anything in this hideous conflict. I do, truly believe though, that most wars are eventually resolved by talking, not bombing.

You might benefit from a broader study of the history of that region, though I suspect you might struggle to be unbiased in your purview.
Are you in Gaza or Israel or just a comfortable observer stirring up divisive rhetoric?

I note that you have progressed to asking a multiple choice question with three possible answers.

I think it's likely we're both biased, your comments suggest as much for you also.

I'm neither in Gaza or Israel, my government is backing the action as well supporting with our military via Cyprus and as a tax payer that entitles me to an opinion. Although, the idea we can only ever study, comment or involve ourselves in situations we're physically linked to is horseshit and if it was applied universally it would be pretty damaging to discourse and development no?

I'm familiar with the history, studied the European , Asian and Middle East from the British Raj to the collapse of the Former Yugoslavia with a focus on racism, genocide, nationalism and the collapse of empires.

Ah I know the answer to this one

Firstly evacuate [by force if need be] all those Israelis who are 'in the way' - for their own safety to designated 'safe zones' which get smaller and smaller so easier to secure

This would definitely keep the Israeli population 'safe' from harm

I've seen it done recently and know how it works

But Hamas haven’t done any of that, so I don’t see how it’s relevant to my post.

You have seen what they did actually do quite recently though. How’s that working?

Coyoacan · 24/01/2024 22:45

SharonEllis · 23/01/2024 13:43

This! I just don't understand how much clearer Hamas have to be. They have said again and again they will repeat October 7th. Their backers are Iran who state clearly, again and again that they wish to destroy Israel & all Jews. I deplore this war but the idea that Israel putting down arms would lead to peace is nuts - unless accompanied by some way of restraining Hamas, and Iran. I havent yet seen a single person shouting 'ceasefire now' explain how this will be achieved.

Actually that is not true. I believe Hamas' original constitution referred to getting rid of the state of Israel but the one in force right now recognises Israel

Nice try, but really, if you read Hamas' charter, you'll see that they want a Muslim state between the two waters, but not one without Jews, one without Zionists. Listen to their words, they talk about Zionists, and about getting rid of the Israeli state. They specifically state they don't have a problem with Jews.

Hmm, how to achieve this perfectly reasonable aim? How to go about the eradication of the Israeli state and all those pesky Zionists without accidentally murdering Jews when they’re inexplicably just everywhere in Israel, getting in the way of all those missiles, border attacks, car rammings, bombings and shootings? Hamas have got themselves into a right old pickle with their new and improved charter.

Well Israel obviously, not been keen on having neighbours since 1948 have they.

They've had a good 75 years to practice being shit neighbours...not really much the people of Gaza could do about it though living under blockade and all....god know how Hamas got any kind of foothold.

So you can’t tell the difference between political rhetoric and actual actions either?

Its really alarming how many people think ideology that isn’t acted upon is enough justification to start genocide

The IRA were making similar outlandish statements but funnily enough, we didn’t all use that as an excuse to carpet bomb every republican family and wholesale murder thousands of catholic children and babies

It is quite psychopathic to hear some of these arguments put forward to support the killing of newborns and toddlers

So you can’t tell the difference between political rhetoric and actual actions either?

Clearly, I can tell the difference better than Hamas, whose political rhetoric doesn’t in any way match their actions.

As my post was about the Hamas charter and how it doesn’t relate in any way to their actions, it’s quite remarkable you’ve extrapolated from it that I’m a psychopathic genocide justifying supporter of murdering babies and toddlers. You’re very late to the CME party regurgitating that particular trope-are you new here? I’ll mark it on my Soulless Zionist Sociopath bingo card anyway.

(The IRA thing’s got a bit tired now too, paging @DownNative )

inkworks273 · 24/01/2024 22:03

@Wale90 "god know how Hamas got any kind of foothold."

Indeed.

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 20:15

And those Hamas boys do seem like such nice misunderstood chaps don't they?

All that footage of their fun day out on 7/10, who wouldn't want them as neighbours?

@25milesfromhome Ah yes, and the IDF are just innocent bystanders in all this. They do nothing but protect themselves against terrorists. I just watched a video from 2016 of an Israeli soldier shooting a Palestinian man who was handcuffed and blindfolded. But do keep trying to convince everyone that this is all just completely one sided.

Never said they were and of course it’s not one sided, I don’t know why you think it is.
I was talking about the Hamas charter as referenced in the post, that’s it.

@tenbob I've sent you a PM.

tenbob · 24/01/2024 20:22

how the actual fuck has my earlier post been deleted for pointing out the definition of genocide?

what sort of inane censorship now means we cannot criticise those who cannot understand a word in the dictionary?

tenbob · 24/01/2024 20:19

Humdingerydoo · 24/01/2024 20:11

Hamas' intentions have always been genocidal. They've just not been successful.

The same could be set for hundreds of organisations.

And it doesn’t distract from the actual genocide being carried out by Israel, which has also always had genocidal intentions towards Palestine but is now unfortunately being successful.

What did Hamas charter say when they were elected? And what exactly do you think a Zionist is?
