Hamas planned attacks on Jewish people in Europe

Have seen in the news - I suspect it’s the tip of the iceberg and absolutely terrifying for Jewish people everywhere. Hamas need to be stopped, hopefully this helps to reinforce that they are a terrorist group and not some romantic notion about being ‘freedom fighters’

After 9/11 muslims in the UK and the west became a target of hate and abuse even though it was nothing to do with them. What is happening to Jewish people around the world right now is like that and also not acceptable

Agreed, it wasn't acceptable then and it shouldn't be acceptable now. I remember my dad being targeted too as everyone assumes he's Muslim (he is of Iraqi heritage). It was bad enough for us so I can't imagine what others went through.

Pizdietz · 15/12/2023 21:19

Germany is a big supporter of attempted genocide, they've involved themselves in this as has the UK and the US. You can't sit around being like fuck yeah war then act surprised when it comes to your doorstep

Are you saying that anyone who supports Israel's right to defend itself from further terrorist attacks, like those of 7 Oct, which Hamas has promised to repeat, is a legitimate target of further terrorism?

Parkingt111 · 15/12/2023 21:18

And neither is the targeting of Palestinians or Muslims around the world by people who equate them with Hamas or other terrorist groups.

I'm not joking around Confused I just genuinely don't see what's so special about German civillians that suddenly makes people who are adamant that civillians get killed that's what happens start wailing about the possibility of civillians getting killed. Germany is a big supporter of attempted genocide, they've involved themselves in this as has the UK and the US. You can't sit around being like fuck yeah war then act surprised when it comes to your doorstep and it might be your civillians in jeopardy as well as Palestinian ones.

Again, it's not Germans who would be targeted. It would be Jews, regardless of nationality.

What word should I have used to describe someone who is a victim of terrorism but not the target?

Is there any reason why they can’t be referred to as a victim even if they were not the target?

Of course they'd be victims, don't be ridiculous. There is still a difference between being caught up in something and being targeted though. The intent is different, which is all I was trying to say. Any death would obviously be equally sad and mourned. Just like I want every hostage, regardless of nationality or religion, to be released by Hamas.

I feel like you know exactly what I was trying to say but have decided to nit-pick nonetheless.

Ok so I guess you can stop calling Israel's actions genocide and war crimes now then as they've not been convicted of it 🙌🏻

Hah, nice try. I won’t but A for effort.

EasternStandard · 15/12/2023 20:50

in my view it is Israel and it’s supporters that are pushing this false narrative

Are you including Denmark as one of the supporters? I ask because they voted for a ceasefire recently

So maybe the quotes from the PM etc really are indicative of their concern because at the same time there’s a vote for ceasefire

My understanding is that Denmark has denied the suspects arrested there are Hamas members. Have they updated that position?

Firstly, Palestinians are not targeted. Secondly, Jews are not Israelis. I'm not Israeli. Why would this purely nationalist terrorist group want to harm me? What have I got to do with the war going on in Gaza between Israel and Hamas? The answer is, of course, fuck all. Except Hamas don't just want to get rid of Israel, they want to get rid of all the Jews. Which you have apparently decided to make a bit of a joke out of, which is a bold choice on your part. A slightly psychopathic choice, but also a bold one.

I will call happily call them that when they’ve been convicted of terrorism. Until then I’ll stick with bad people. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're confused by. Maybe collateral damage isn't the right word? I don't know, English isn't my mother tongue. I mean people who are killed alongside those who are targeted

Well collateral damage isn’t the best term to describe dead people is it? It seems a bit detached and clinical. A bit euphemistic.

In fact it can come across as dismissive though I am not saying you meant it that way. But that’s how it sounds. You don’t call the people who were killed on October 7 collateral damage do you? (though Hamas might do I guess)

Edited

What word should I have used to describe someone who is a victim of terrorism but not the target? I was trying to make some kind of distinction to explain that the targets are specifically Jews.

Jewish people are civillians too unless you think they aren't? Palestinians are being targeted does that make them not civillians? If more civillians get dragged into it is terribly sad but mumsnet has educated me that that's what happens in wars. It's to be expected apparently.

I hope the British government has eyes on the marches in London in light of recent developments. It puts some of the placards and chants under an even bigger microscope.

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 20:58

@EasternStandard well said. I don't understand given the direct quote from the danish government how the narrative can be confused.

Perhaps certain posters are limited and just find it confusing why a terror cell might expand the geography of its targets especially when attention is focused else where.

The article is from the 30th of October - hardly prehistoric is it ? you’re right though in the meantime we’ve had thousands more dead children and increasing polarization so perhaps a change in strategy. Who knows.

And would you prefer I use “human animals”? Is that sort of terminology more up your alley?

No, terrorists will suffice

Desertrose2023 · 15/12/2023 20:57

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 20:52

The article you linked to is clearly outdated though seeing as Hamas are no longer purely nationalists as they are now planning terrorist attacks in Europe too. Also, lovely photo there of Hamas in Jerusalem 2014 aka not Gaza and also before this war apparently created the first ever Hamas supporters outside of Gaza.

"Bad people". You really are too much.

I mean, surely you know what you're saying is absolutely ridiculous, right? For so many reasons, but the one I'm going to focus on is the fact that it's Jews they'd be targeting, not Germans or Danes in general. Jews. I'm sure others would be affected as well but they'd be collateral damage, not the actual targets. The targets would be Jews. So your "logic" isn't exactly sound.

I’m a bit confused by this.

If you’re a target you mustn’t be killed but if you’re not a target it’s just collateral damage?

I also never used the word "just"

Hi @EasternStandard in my view it is Israel and it’s supporters that are pushing this false narrative. This article from Time summarises it quite well. I’m not doubting the Germans and Danes have arrested bad people, but I do not consider this to be indicative of some wider nefarious scheme or intent by Hamas to attack Europe and I think trying to claim so is highly convenient for those trying to deflect criticism and growing disgust at the increasing death toll and atrocities Israel is committing in Gaza.
