Hamas planned attacks on Jewish people in Europe

Have seen in the news - I suspect it’s the tip of the iceberg and absolutely terrifying for Jewish people everywhere. Hamas need to be stopped, hopefully this helps to reinforce that they are a terrorist group and not some romantic notion about being ‘freedom fighters’

So seeing that genocide is being supported and Europe doesn't care abour Palestinians maybe they're thinking about bringing terror home to the supporters of it?

So the planned attacks on Jewish institutions would be attacks on genocide supporters who are Jewish? Jewish genocide supporters in Europe? See what you did there?

Targeting Jewish places is especially messed up and presumably designed to spread terror in Jewish communities which is very sad and shocking.

Spare me. You don’t give a shiny shit about the Jewish community.

I don't have enough information on the alleged plot or those arrested. More information as the case develops will shape my opinion. Hamas define themselves - per their own charter - as nationalists whose fight is with Israel. What I believe is that the threat posed specifically by Hamas outside of Israel is being significantly inflated to fit the false narrative Israel is pushing that their actions in Gaza are also to defend the West, rather than land grab and ethnically cleanse.

do you work in global counter-terrorism? I wonder what information you would need to establish a credible threat

their actions? their actions? Sounds like you're suggesting they started this war and not Hamas who wiped out nearly 2000 Jews back in October and filmed their murders via facebook live.Angry

Yes, their actions pre October 7th and their actions post October 7th which have resulted in the deaths of 20,000 Palestinian civilians from bombing alone and likely many many more from starvation and disease.

the false narrative Israel is pushing

Do you include these statements as false? They are from Denmark not Israel

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the threat was "as serious as it gets".

Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said the alleged plot "tragically confirms that Danish Jews are under threat".

It's obviously a terrible idea.

Well no fucking shit.

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 15:32

Also, I have to ask - how long did it take you to come up with an excuse for terrorists this time? It's scary how much insight you seem to have into how terrorists think.

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 15:30

Toothyfruity · 15/12/2023 15:27

This is what I was trying to get at early in the thread when I asked if this was the first time Hamas had done this and got shouted down.

If this is the first time then I think there's a good chance that it's to do with Gaza.

The only reason the IRA started bombing England was because they realised no one gave a shit about Irish people being murdered so hitting targets in England, especially economic ones like Canary Wharf made them much harder to ignore. Even now when you talk to Brits about the IRA most only seem to know about British bombs and nothing about the North where the conflict actually happened.

So seeing that genocide is being supported and Europe doesn't care abour Palestinians maybe they're thinking about bringing terror home to the supporters of it?

It's obviously a terrible idea. And would result in people dying and probably more support for Israel but they're probably not the most logical. Targeting Jewish places is especially messed up and presumably designed to spread terror in Jewish communities which is very sad and shocking.

Thank goodness it was intercepted and no one was hurt.

As you well know, that wasn't what you were being "shouted down" for. It's quite funny watching you change the narrative of events as they happen.

Toothyfruity · 15/12/2023 15:27

Shhhhivegotasecret · 15/12/2023 15:04

Ok but why would Hamas want to attack Jewish people in Europe? I take it you are aware that Jewish people hold a wide range of views, may have absolutely no connection to Israel in any way shape or form…. So tell me… why?

German press is reporting that security services were first tipped off about these suspects back in the summer.

Totallymessed · 15/12/2023 15:09

Hamas want to target Jews in Europe because Hamas are Jew-hating terrorists.

Totallymessed · 15/12/2023 15:07

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/12/2023 14:44

Honestly. Can't you see? If people are butchered in the numbers that have happened in Gaza, with such cruelty, and continuing, I think it is inevitable that it would lead to terrorism abroad. I don't like it and I condemn it but I was on here predicting it a month ago. How obvious does it have to be?

Well no, it's not inevitable unless the people involved are terrorists.

Desertrose2023 · 15/12/2023 14:56

there have been no attacks perpetrated by Hamas in Europe - or previous arrests in connection with planned Hamas attacks in Europe outside of these current ones (at least none I am aware of - if someone knows otherwise, please share). Why is it naive to argue that these attacks are potentially linked to the current genocide? Are you saying the timing is more likely to be just a mind boggling coincidence?

Edited

Are you agreeing that yes there is now a threat?

25milesfromhome · 15/12/2023 15:05

Never miss an opportunity to downplay antisemitism and threats to Jewish people whilst working in a genocide accusation as a little treat.

Because this wasn't the beginning of their plans. They'd already been underway for a while, which is why weapons had already been hidden.

Why should it inevitably lead to terrorist attacks abroad?

I think it’s naive to say that these planned attacks in Europe are a response to what’s happening in Gaza. They would likely have started planning long before that.

Ketzele · 15/12/2023 14:52

marmaladeandpeanutbutter well yes of course, you were far from alone in anticipating this. After all, diaspora Jews have been consistently targeted by jihadists for many, many years.

Jews also remember how Germany was considered a safe haven for Jews, the apex of sophisticated tolerance, right up until Hitler took power. We know how quickly things can get very, very bad for Jews.

Which is why it's so galling how often antisemitism gets downplayed, denied or whatabouteried on MN as elsewhere.

EasternStandard · 15/12/2023 14:50

Shhhhivegotasecret · 15/12/2023 14:40

What does this have to do with threats to Jewish people in Germany, France, Netherlands ??

Why is this repeatedly ignored?

It’s odd

By the way, Hamas reportedly already had weapons in Berlin. That means this has been planned for a while already.

@mindthespace Thank you for posting the photo of the newspaper. In that case, I very much condemn Israel's use of human shields as well.
