Surface flooding and no toilets [so open defaecation] presents increase risk of disease and walking thro' dilute faeces everywhere

I agree with you both. It's all geopolitical shenanigans. USA won't vote for any resolutions brought by China or Russia as they're "adversaries" and vice versa. We've wasted weeks on this whilst deaths spiralled.

Even tonight the "condemn Hamas" amendment was only introduced to give "No" Voters an excuse for why they voted that way and frustrate the process.

Major reform is required.

@BelleHathor Yes, the veto option isn't really democratic.

There needs to be reform. There should be no special veto power for the allies from WWII (U.K., US, France, Russia and China).

It worked tonight, thankfully! I've reassessed my previous criticism of the UN in light of the way it has been frustrated by the USA vetoes during this period.

Hopefully the fact that the whole world has watched these deliberate actions will lead to reform. I support that.

Watching it live too @stormy4319trevor , the President really conveys feelings and emotions so well. Remember that over 100 UN staff members have been killed in Gaza. These would have been people all UN workers knew, imagine knowing that'll you'll never see x walking down the corridor again. He gave a heartfelt tribute to them and their families at the last General Council.

@BelleHathor Oh interesting - I knew about CANZUK but not 5 eyes. Just watching UN debate on ceasefire, though they do go on a long time, not sure I'll watch whole thing. The President gave a very moving speech. US just about to suggest an amendment.

@stormy4319trevor Definitely good news, remember that all 3 are members of Five Eyes (the other 2 being the USA and UK). I imagine that such a public pivot would not have been without discussions between all 5. Bidens comments and the others pivot were all reported within an hour of each other, again suggesting coordination.

@BelleHathor Good news on Canada, NZ and Australia. Sad the UK has isolated us from everyone except the US, but we have some things in common with these countries and maybe it will influence the UK.

@Efacsen Looks like it. BBC also said something had just come from Reuters on a disagreement between US and Israel on what happens next.
They also said NZ, Canada and Australia have just issued a joint statement urging a sustainable ceasefire
