I was really shocked to see pro-Palestine rhetoric start up immediately in direct response to October 7th (even though I am ‘pro-Palestine’, it seemed horrible timing – I wouldn’t even say ‘insensitive timing’ as I suppose the lack of sensitivity was knowing). Likewise the support for Hamas shown on marches in places like Manchester. Seriously, wtf. Did any of these people actually see the footage of what they did? The young women being set upon and paraded round the streets like Colonel Gaddafi? It was sickening, horrific. Those innocent people did not deserve that.

That, along with open antisemitism all over the place right now, it’s not surprising many in the Jewish community do not feel safe.

I fully support a ceasefire and support Palestinian civilians but do not support Hamas.

I would not personally go on a march right now, although I do support the calls for a ceasefire, as I would not want to contribute to Jewish people feeling unsafe. I absolutely support people’s right to march though, and think the overwhelming majority of people marching are doing so out if humanitarian concern for people in Palestine, and like me would not wish for anyone to feel unsafe as a result.

Assad says he supports Hamas but as stated here or by anyone that knows about the politics over the last X number of years it doesn't mean much. Though I suppose Assad did kill 7400 Palestinian women and children in a few weeks after he had already let them be tortured and raped by his own men. So he cares about Palestinians about as much as Hamas does. Therefore they have that in common.

This was just - metaphorically speaking - "the day before yesterday". And in the meantime, we have arrived at "yeah, so, bombing, shelling, and invading hospitals is just par for the course, we guess!".

People do not even get outraged about any of this anymore. We seem to have totally normalised the targetting of fucking hospitals at this point!

I've been reading about this - how dare they. I get angrier the more I read. How spineless and lacking in humanity are our government(s) that they let this happen under the repeated pretense of "We thought they were Hamas". Every civilian is apparently Hamas, as every school, hospital, home, etc. is a base or weapons facility.

But the rhetoric you posted is more than four years old, the person was kicked out of Hamas for saying it and has retracted his comments saying he agrees with Hamas actual policy which is to limit resistance to “Zionist occupation” but in the other case the rhetoric is only one month old, the person still has their high ranking job in the Israeli government, and has not retracted their comments to say they agree with Israel’s official policy.

The man saying that, Fathi Hammad, was kicked out of Hamas for that rant which was from July 2019. At the time, he wasn’t even a senior official within Hamas having been sacked from those positions for extremism.

That rant was widely condemned by Hamas and other Palestinians as well as the international community. He later retracted them and stated that he supports the Hamas policy of "limiting its resistance to the Zionist occupation that usurps Palestine’s land and defiles its holy sites".

It’s a four year old version of what Amichai Eliyah said last month. Amichai Eliyah is the Interior Minister of Israel, who said a nuclear bomb should be dropped on Gaza. Eliyah hasn’t been sacked, he is still the Interior Minister, he’s just been suspended from attending war cabinet meetings.

I've seen quite a lot of comments, maybe on a different thread, that Hamas don't want the global destruction of Jews because they changed their charter actually.

The use of it comes from a place of ignorance and racism. Though of course people that use it think they are being clever.

London has various different Muslim communities within it whose heritage come from all over the world.

Generally when people use that term they don't actually care (or know) whether it ties into the Middle East or not - because they're racist and love a racist slogan. It got banded about a lot in the wake of 9/11 and it absolutely turns my stomach. It should be called out at all times.
