@Efacsen I have just seen that tweet I'm going to attach it below as it has a recording of the inside of the hospital which has shocked me, I knew it was bad inside after the recent seige but no idea it was this bad

This is what I cannot ever understand, on what planet is execution without trial a normal sentence for kids or anyone throwing stones! I grew up in Ireland during the troubles those kids were firing petrol bombs at the British army, setting their cars and trucks on fire and never were they fired on directly to kill. Petrol bombs are a far bigger threat to life then stones fgs. It is a calculated decision to kill not a last minute reaction to a threat.

Unlike you, I am not religious!

I have tried many times and have read many books - but that moment of "I believe this!" continues to elude me.

But this means the world! I think of him almost every day! [Maybe that is how us non-religious folks do the equivalent of dua ... I have just been thinking of him and will until the day I die!]

You seem like such a lovely person, though!

Sometimes, that's all I can do for people too. There have been people where I've sat with them as they've bled out, and all I could do was tell them to look at me (so they didn't see everything else) and tell them that it's going to be ok and they're not alone.

And that's not a lie. For them, for him, there was an end to pain in this life and a loving welcome into the next iA. A child killed unjustly - the angels will have welcomed him and he will be safe, at peace and in Jannat al-Firdaus iA.

It's for the rest of us that it's not ok. We live with what we've seen and what we've lost. Someone told me that our lives grow around the people in them, and when those people are no longer with us in body, we still grow around their memory and the space where they were - it's just another way that they shape us.

I'll remember Rami in my duas these last nights of Ramadhan, insha'Allah.

It sounds like you did exactly what you needed to do for that young boy. He had somebody he trusted there with him, telling him that it would be ok.

Having lost people I cared about in my own right (albeit not recently): I think I understand!

The loss is one thing (it hurts, it really does! When, for example, it is a grandparent!) - the awareness of why and how and that it is all horribly and inherently "political" and could have been different is yet another!

I lost one of my English students some 20 years ago - or, as it was later explained: "the army confronted stone throwers"! It just fucking did NOT! I was standing right there: none of my boys threw a single stone that day! But ... even if they had: I would still have to fundamentally disagree with the death penalty for kids throwing stones at tanks. But they did NOT even. Not on that day, anyway (they would sometimes; no, a stone thrown does not endanger the life of some soldier in a tank!)! They shot him nonetheless! He died, having been shot in the head, on a dusty street in front of my eyes! I stroked his head and said it was going to be alright and that the ambulance was coming. Fuck, I was only 20 years old, had never even seen a grandparent die, and I was out of my depth, and I probably let him down so much during his last moments!!! He deserved better! So much better!!!

Later, I lost my favourite aunt (by marriage): she was such a "larger than life" woman. I loved her for how spirited she was (and feared her for her "battle ship" opinions on hair and makeup - I have many a picture of me looking completely gharish because she wanted it that way!). No, she was not shot, she suffered a stroke! An ambulance was called for her and did swiftly arrive, ready to take her for urgent treatment! She passed away at a checkpoint after the ambulance had waited for several hours to enter the city! Bhabek, ya XY! Habibti-t-albi, ya hayati! She was such a total battleship of a woman, and she deserved better!

It is "different" when they do not "just die" but when it would have been avoidable - perhaps deliberate, even! There is not really a way to describe it that will make sense!

I feel for your loss, @Scirocco! A lot! And: if you ever feel you just need to randomly "vent" about "what it is like to have lost someone in Palestine": feel free to DM!

I know and it's what comforts me. But just reading these and knowing ho they felt before death is upsetting. I'm happy they're in a better place than here.

This is heartbreaking to read. The majority are writing about their mothers on the wall of Al Shifa hospital. Not a single word of hatred or anger about their killers just their strength in their faith.

@Scirocco the threads have got extremely toxic over the past few days and there is a lot of cruelty and people so easily dismissing the suffering and death of innocent civilians. It is just a small minority of posters so focus on those posts of support and ignore the rest of the noise 💐

I’m so sorry @Scirocco I’m distressed by the coldness I see towards the loss of life, and I am angry by the unfairness and lies. I l sometimes wonder, if I lived in Gaza would I still be alive, and what lies would be told to justify yet again another death of someone who hadn’t done anything to deserve it. Most likely I would be deemed so insignificant that nobody would even need to bother explaining themselves. I imagine you feel much worse. For every person who seeks to excuse this madness there are many more against it, I hope that is at least something to hold onto.
