We are surrounded by tanks that are firing smoke and fire bombs at a shelter on Abu Zaitoun Street in the Jabalia camp, which is home to 15,000 displaced people.
“For more than three hours, the violent bombardment has not stopped, and ambulances cannot get here: All hospitals in northern Gaza are out of service.
“Fires broke out in many buildings in the camp, terrifying thousands of displaced people who fled their homes to seek shelter in UN schools.”

@Efacsen I'm not suprised about Blinken. The BBC have referred it to the US's strongest criticism of Israel so far

The casualties are mounting and now I have seen that large fires have broken out after the shelling of the Jabaliya camp where many of the displaced are sheltering which will result In more deaths and injuries

And this from Blinken on IDF keeping civilians safe - must say Blinken looked awful yesterday like he'd aged 10 years in the last week

I won't re-post the whole summary about the Article 99 UNSC meeting later today which I've already posted elsewhere

The important but not encouraging bit is

UN security council to meet Friday and vote on Gaza ceasefire

But the outcome of a vote is not clear – four earlier drafts presented since the war broke out were rejected by the security council.

The United States, Israel’s most powerful ally, which vetoed one of the earlier draft resolutions and rejects the idea of a ceasefire, has said a new resolution from the council at this stage would not be “useful.”

@Parkingt111 it's difficult too find anything remotely re-assuring about the state of hospitals or healthcare atm - in a somewhat bizarre intervention yesterday the Hamas health director was suggesting that the ]besieged] staff from Al Awda move to Al Shifa in an attempt to re-open it as many injured patients arriving there are only receiving first aid because they have no surgeons. Desperate all round

Another field hospital is due to go up in Rafah today

WHO chief is concerned about Al Awdah hospital as it has been surrounded by the military
There are still 35 patients and many staff stuck inside
Every hospital I have read about that is still functioning are in horrific conditions and close to collapsing

@Parkingt111 yes search and rescue breaking down and lack of tools/lifting equipment - plus something about the buildings in Khan Younis being of a different construction so harder to reach people under huge flat slabs of concrete [not describing that very well] Can see what I mean on some of the photos

@Efacsen they are right about the roads
Alot of the ones around the main cities and hospitals seem destroyed
The bombing is also non stop so it would be extremely difficult

I have seen reports that after the last 48 hours there are many trapped under the rubble that haven't been rescued too

@Parkingt111 yes mainly - too dangerous for the drivers, roads destroyed and booby-trapped, roads closed by IDF - UN workers unable to get in to workplace

But also movement of people and lack of comms make it difficult to know where to deliver aid if they can even get there

It sounds horribly chaotic

And IDF are blaming UN for being dis-organised

UNWRA saying just as much a problem distributing aid as amount being allowed into Gaza

May be another 36 hours before UNSC meets

During the call, Blinken conveyed that Israel needs to do more to protect civilians in its offensive in southern Gaza, Reuters reported.

Blinken also urged Dermer to let Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza while welcoming its decision to let more fuel into the territory, the official said.

I just saw horrendous footage of the aftermath of those scumbags bombing a school. Dead children and adults. A cat sitting on a dead man's body. An UNWRA school near the Indonesian hospital apparently.

I'm despairing.

Its awful about the animals as well. Peoples pets, the working horses and donkeys
Israel is destroying infrastructure and any idea of social cohesion. Again this idea mirrors the German's plans for the Polish in WW2 (that I read about on the Holocaust Museum site).

The last I read was Kamal Adwan hospital in the north had come under fire and now also no longer functioning

I don't think there are any hospitals in the north remaining which are functioning at full capacity

The focus is now as you said in first aid and on how and where to bury the dead

There's also animals that have been injured or died.

I saw a horse this morning half trapped under the rubble, alive but severely injured.

This is the latest from Al Aqsa hospital
No more space for the dead bodies
The morgue is full, supplies are low
And it's the first time since the war that they have recieved more dead people than injured

I know previously when the morgues were full, they were storing bodies in ice cream trucks
I just hope the shelling stops long enough for them to bury the dead

Or If the deceased can be somehow transported to Mawasi or further south to be buried there

There was a snippet about the current state of al-Shifa on AJ - many internally displaced people have returned seeking protection and hosp is functioning as a first aid centre

PRCS have said they can no longer provide ambulance services in northern gaza as they have no fuel and there is no functioning hospital to which they can take the injured

IDF have just announced Hamas are firing rockets from al-Maswari 'safe area' which is packed with internally displaced people

What a bloody mess which will only be alleviated by a humanitarian ceasefire

Time difference means it's only 6am in NY at present so hopefully will hear more from US gov and UNSC in a couple of hours

Various ministers from the Gulf states and other parts of ME have flown overnight to lobby US gov

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like much input from the US in taking further measures at the humanatarian catastrophe that has unfolded

I'm waiting still to see their response the article 99 being invoked by the UN head

I did see that the head of EU is calling for it to be backed

I read yesterday that An-nassar only have a few staff left working compared to the 35-40 they usually do
The roads around the hospital have been bombed and at times roo dangerous or impossible for staff to get there to work
