I have been following doctor Ghassan on socials where he posts updates from his colleagues who are still in Gaza and its still as dreadful as ever
Especially since the last few days when bombardment in central Gaza and dense populated areas has seen a sharp brutal increase

I saw last night that Nasser medical complex was asking for protection as the strikes were very close by and they feared a repeat of Al Shifa hospital

If the Jordanian field hospital is targeted there may be some serious consequences

War is known to be a significant driver of antibiotic resistance (which ultimately will impact on countries unconnected with the conflict, including our own).

@Parkingt111 Yes, that's very true.

I did see awhile ago that in some areas at one point due to a lack of fuel to run the relevant infrastructure, there was sewage flowing through civilian living areas which could have contributed towards this.

If the Israeli hospitals that are sterilised and have all the facilities, are having a difficult time treating this infection, then the Palestinians with lack of medical aid and hospitals that cannot be sanitised due to lack of space and sheer amount of injuries, stand very little chance in combating it.

Thanks @Parkingt111 There's been rain as well, which will have spread stuff around more I suppose, with the ground being wet. Israeli hospitals seem to have identified it as fungus colonising wounds, which might be even more difficult to treat than bacterial infection. Spores could be in buildings, on surfaces as well as in mud and soil? I know nothing about pathogens, but it certainly sounds concerning.

I see on Sky news the drug resistant wound infections have stared to appear. What seems to have happened is that there has been inadequate sanitation and the ground is contaminated with human poo . There was already an antibiotic resistance problem in Gaza. During the bombardment, many people have had open wounds and these got infected. They needed antibiotics and likely most have not finished the course as the supplies of drugs and consumables have run out, not to mention evacuation, lack of hand washing facilities overcrowding and re-admissions due a second injury. I’ve seen pictures of several people sharing a bed or trolley and injured children lying on floor the floor or their relatives camping on the floor.
Floors would be covered with the now antibiotic resistant poo bacteria…
So now the IDF are coming back home with infected war wounds that were contaminated with poo from the people whose toilets and hospitals they just blew up. Some of them can’t be treated with the normal antibiotics and require surgery instead of just injectable treatments. It’s very worrying for anyone with an injury regardless of which side of the conflict they are on and likely those trapped in Gaza are affected to a much greater extent than those diagnosed in fully functioning Israeli hospitals.

@Parkingt111 Sounds likely. I think environmental fungi are probably everywhere, but probably hard to keep wounds clean and sterile there. It seems like only a few affected so far, but definitely something to keep an eye on as it's treatment resistant and could be devastating for all the injured there.

@stormy4319trevor I saw elsewhere that it's through contamination of sewage water mixed with soil but that's not from a verified source

@Parkingt111 That's interesting. I don't know if this is a new pathogen, generated by unsanitary conditions, or something longstanding that Gazans might have some resistance to. Seems likely everyone there could be affected. I'll keep an eye out for any other news on it.

One of the soldiers has now died from this infection

IDF soldier dies after being infected with dangerous fungus in Gaza - reportsAn IDF soldier has died after being infected by a harmful fungus in the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reports.
The soldier was taken to Assuta Ashdod Medical Center weeks after returning from Gaza with serious limb injuries due to the infection.
It is understood that around 10 soldiers have now been infected with the same fungus and are undergoing treatment in Israel, The Times of Israel reports, citing Kan radio.
The latest report comes after the Association for Infectious Diseases (AID) in Israel said that several drug-resistant pathogens had been found in the injuries of returning Israeli troops.
"In all hospitals it is reported that soldiers have returned from the battlefield with resistant infections," Professor Galia Rahav, chairman of the AID, told The Telegraph last week.
The expert added that contact with the soil and mud in Gaza could causes exposure to such resistant bacteria and mould.

Israeli Govt's Christmas message

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will intensify its fight against Hamas in the coming days.
He told members of his party that he had visited Gaza on Monday morning and that Israel's military campaign there was "not close to being over"."

You could argue this is because they are ineffective . Ineffective on the 7th October and ineffective Christmas Day except of course in their killing and maiming children, destroying lives and homes where they seem to exceed.

I think the currect recorded death toll from Al maghazi is 106 but injured is much much higher. Looking at the destruction it caused I am wondering if another 2000 pound bomb was used
It's one of the deadliest attacks in awhile but not much noise because its happening over the festive period where world leaders are busy.
From what we know of the capacity of Al Aqsa then you are right I don't see how they will cope
