The International Committee of the Red Cross appears to have disowned earlier comments by its official Pascal Hundt to Sky News that he was “not confident” more hostages would be released today, by saying “all preparations for the next release continue to move forward”.

In a statement it said:

An earlier statement from an ICRC official was in no way an indication that the release operations planned for Sunday will not happen. All preparations for the next release continue to move forward. The operations are delicate and complicated and one can never be absolutely certain they will take place, given all of the complexities.

I have three sons and I feel the same.
But I also feel for the male child detainees, those arrested when they were children and are now adults in Israeli prisons. Many held in solitary confinement with mental health issues brought on by prolonged incarceration. They also stand no chance of release.

We should be grateful for small mercies and the release of the vulnerable but it is still all so sad.

Not quite Amnesty International, for example, have been involved in some of the cases of child detainees and campaign for their release.
Some cases, admittedly very few, are well known

They are not hostages, they're detained or arrested Palestinians.

Please can this be a follow on from the first thread that is just about updates regarding hostage release and detainee releases.

I’ve just seen videos of the Palestinian hostages being reliesed, women and teenage boys just running into their families arms.
I hope they are safe now and will remain so and Israelis won’t harm them more than they’ve already have.

IDF has been going around WB and kidnapping more and more people.

I’m just praying that Israel will soon stop this madness.

@Parkingt111 that's the list I've seen in other places and can't remember ever seeing - civilians in the south not to attempt to return north on pain of death/injury-on any list

But maybe there is a more detailed list held by the co-signatories to the agreement that hasn't been published

If that were the case however, wouldn't one expect Israel or Qatar to put out clear information confirming the ban and potential lethal consequences?

Ceasefire agreements surely need to be simple clear and absolute No shooting people. No arresting people. Otherwise it causes exactly these problems and jeopardises the existence of the ceasefire. It goes without saying I have expertise in ceasefire agreements and this opinion is based on commonsense and raising teenage boys

Its time to stick to the deal or it threatens the release of innocent civilians.
No point in sticking their heads in the sand and hoping no one notices. Hamas has clearly showed they have no intention of accepting anything other than what was in the deal.

Good news for the people there as it also included much needed medical aid

Do you know if anywhere else the conditions are reported differently? It doesn't mention in there that not being allowed to move to the North was part of the truce

Some news channels are now using the term ‘detainees’ which is a better word and less antagonistic. It also allows for the fact that many have been detained without trial or access to lawyers.
It also allows for the current ‘arrest’ of many in more recent days. Just for being in Gaza or the West Bank.

Sorry to introduce an element of negativity but this sounds concerning - I wonder why the Red Cross are saying this

A senior Red Cross official has told Sky News he is “not confident” of more hostages being release today.

The network quotes Pascal Hundt saying that despite not being confident about more releases, the Red Cross has a team on standby. He was speaking from Gaza. He added that that the truce needed to remain in place because the humanitarian situation in Gaza was “so desperate”.

The UN confirmed in the early hours of today that 61 trucks and 18 ambulances were allowed into the North.
Previously they had not been allowed access which was part of the reason for the hold up in the hostage release.
They also confirmed 137 trucks only were allowed in the day before, along with fuel.
A further 184 trucks were allowed in yesterday after further negotiations on their ‘delay’.

Hope so @Parkingt111 The release of more children would be good. They are probably more vulnerable to infection, and epidemics/illness are a concern.

Hopefully everything goes well today and there are no further delays like yesterday.
I know there was some confusion yesterday on the agreements of the truce
Sky news have put this up today:

• 50 Israeli women and children held by Hamas in Gaza to be released over four days during which there will be a pause in the fighting;
• For every additional 10 hostages released thereafter there will be another day's pause in the fighting;
• 150 Palestinian women and people under the age of 19 held in Israeli prisons to be freed;
• Humanitarian relief, medical and fuel aid to be allowed into all areas of Gaza;
• Aerial surveillance by Israel to halt for four days in the south of Gaza;
• Aerial surveillance by Israel to halt for six hours a day from 10am to 4pm for four days in the north of Gaza;
• During the truce period, Israel is committed not to attack or arrest anyone in all areas of Gaza.

I'm personally hoping that if the truce is fulfilled by both sides for the full four days then it can lead to all the remaining hostages released and a full ceasefire

It is and I worry a lot of the men aren't going to be released. I mean I just cry thinking about the children, I looked at photos of my kids when they were young yesterday and just can't stop thinking how scared they must be. I hope and feel the children will all get out.... but the men may not be so lucky.

Hope more hostages are released today, without any further delays.

My DC school gave out Shabbat candles to light in honour of the hostages this week, and each pack came with info about one of the hostages. I can't get over what I felt when I looked at the photo of the 21 year old man held hostage, as he's clearly not going to be allowed home to his loved ones anytime soon, if ever. It was a devastating realisation. We only ever really talk about the children, but there are so many more people being held. It's awful

I was going to say, I'm sure I remember a little girl dying as a result of a rock being thrown at her car. Turns out it's not just her this has happened to.
