@Lobster7 what makes you think we don’t? What makes you think we didn’t write to our MP’s about the situation? What made you think we don’t think about those poor poor children and their families often? What makes you think we don’t see the social media posts and wish with all our hearts we could make things different?
this is a thread about a specific subject which people are discussing. It’s not the place to try to vilify people for their “views” and empathy. It is very possible to feel heartbroken for the innocents on both sides who are suffering, have suffered or are lost.

No one is allowed to talk about the Israeli hostages on here, are they?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/11/2023 13:02

Eitan Yahalomi is 12. He had already been described as a sensitive child by his family.

His aunt has said Hamas made the children look at videos of 7th October attack. Hamas gunmen would also threaten the children when they cried.
When he arrived in Gaza, civilians also beat him. ( Video on Twitter shows lots of men hitting or trying to hit the hostages as they are driven through Gaza.)

According to her, he was partly detained alone, and at times with others. This is in addition to the trauma he experienced, including seeing his father injured following a shootout with Hamas. He was separated from his mother and sisters before they were taken to Gaza and they managed to escape.

Actually felt devastated to see Kfir and his family are confirmed to be with another terrorist group. I have no connection to them but I was so so hoping they would be released in the most recent group.
What does this mean for the likelihood of them being released? One news site is reporting the group that holds them are known for not negotiating/dealing with any external parties but it's the DM so I have no idea how accurate this is.
I can't stop thinking about them.

I'm not denying there may be some on both sides
What I was saying is that I don't think it's the majority

Edited

Great, nobody said it was.

Has anyone else seen this footage of the Red Cross vehicles carrying the hostages being mobbed? Terrorised right till the very last minute. Those poor people.

I could be wrong obviously,
But cheering and clapping in my world means celebrations.
so they are celebrating.

It looked exactly the same when the Palestinians were being released

The release of hostages obviously means everything is going to plan and the release of Palestinians is the next stage.

Especially as everything was so delayed yesterday.
So this is a short respite and a time to celebrate for all.

Ofcourse it would be naive to think Hamas doesn't have some support in Gaza because they are not just some small little group but the governing body there.

But does it mean that even those who supported them for certain aspects prior to the war means they also supported them in carrying out the actions of October 7th?

If suggesting that then it could make the dangerous implication that the civilians deaths in Gaza are somewhat justified. Not that I am saying that you are saying that but that's how it can be read in to

I read on BBC verify that although different factions took part in drills they don't believe it was until the day of the attack that Hamas told even the other groups about it.

And in regards to the hostage who escaped and was taken back we don't really know the circumstances around it and there could be many possibilities
It seems that the PIJ are much worse and if they had captured him then he may not have been released

It is a sad state of affairs and does indicate how much work is needed

(Just my own thoughts)

Similarly all this overwhelming support of Gaza including before Israel responded could be read into as October 7th attack on Israel and jewish people, being justified. In fact, at some marches, thats exactly what some people said. I saw some shocking footage of the marches showing just how much support Hamas has in our own country. So let's not read into other posters remarks or try and paint fair and reasonable observations as showing support for anything anyone is doing to each other, on BOTH sides.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 11:34

This was just reported as a possibility
I am personally hoping that this is Qatar putting pressure on Hamas to locate the other hostages

Qatar is focused on further extending a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel beyond Wednesday, based on the group’s ability to continue releasing 10 hostages a day.

@Iwantcakeeveryday that is definitely not the case. As horrible as it sounds.

The situation with kfir and his family also blows the myth out of the water that Hamas have this reign of terror over anyone in Gaza and no one dare say a word.

There is an article on BBC Verify about the 5 other terrorists groups in Gaza but for some reason it won't let me copy to here

whereaw · 28/11/2023 10:35

Terrorist organisations can't exist in a vacuum, of course there is much wider support, and of course that doesn't mean everyone in Gaza is included in that!!
What I don't understand is why the world is not collectively rising up to say we need to stamp out terrorism and extremism and we stand with all people against Hamas, Israel and all innocent Palestinian civilians. The Free Palestine and Isreal vs Palestine rhetoric is only helping the Hamas cause in my opinion. People who ascribe to this extreme Islamic ideology are never going to be de-radicalised and they are our enemy too.

That's an absurd conflation. There's maybe 30 people in that video, the majority doing or saying nothing. Say what you like about Hamas but don't make baseless assertions about 2 million people on one Twitter clip.

I didn't though! I simply said the narrative they're ALL innocent, is not true. In fact Hamas aren't from outside Gaza either, are they. SO what I said is accurate and please don't attempt to accuse me of things I did not say, I did not say all are one or the other.

There were a lot of kids too, its awful. The narrative is Hamas is a small terrorist group and the rest of Gaza are innocent, but thats clearly not the case if they're joining in terrorising these hostages. Just awful.

@Iwantcakeeveryday looks like it, inasmuch as one can trust twitter footage I suppose, I've seen quite a few accounts post the same.

How awful, so thats ordinary citizens of Gaza doing that? @SomeCatFromJapan

XRAYTHIS · 28/11/2023 08:06

It is lovely to see more hostages released this morning. It sounds like Hamas have to come up with 10 names of hostages to be released each day now to continue the ceasefire. I believe there are still around 150 hostages not accounted for.

Reba767 · 28/11/2023 07:16

Trulywonderful · 27/11/2023 22:58

A cousin from one of the hostages on the first day of the pause said something about stones getting thrown at his relative as they left the tunnels. They thought they were going to be executed appropriately. Hamas led them out without saying they were going to be released. It must have been so scary.

Gosh that's heartbreaking.
A family member on the news said they weren't allowed to talk in normal speaking voices the whole time so they were struggling to talk normally now, everything had to be quiet.
That little Emily looked utterly shell shocked in particular. I hope all these people especially the children get all the help they need to recover.

Stomacharmeleon · 27/11/2023 23:16

@SomeCatFromJapan that must be very frightening if you are a child, have been told nothing and separated from those you have been held with.
