People tearing down posters of Israeli hostages - what is this supposed to convey?

Just seen another article about someone tearing down posters of kidnapped Israelis.

This time an apparently well known ‘feminist’ artist who stated that she was ‘getting rid of the shit’.

Posters of civilian women and children, many who’ve seen family members murdered horrifically in front of them and are being held captive by the very people who carried out those atrocities, experiencing god knows what horrors in captivity. There can’t be a logical expectation that a government that carried out brutal murders, gang rapes, mutilation, and burnt babies and children alive would be treating them humanely!

Obviously that’s her reason for doing so and there’s been many other videos and reports of people in the UK and other countries doing the same quite openly. I’m quite old and I’ve never seen anything like this in my life before.

Would this be happening if they weren’t Israelis?

Do these people not understand that the barbaric murders and kidnapping of Israelis was the reason this war started in the first place, do they think these kidnappings are fake news?

Are they trying to convey that these kidnappings don’t matter as the Palestinians have been held in an ‘open air prison’, in total ignorance of why Israel had to blockade itself from them for the protection of its civilians?

Really can’t get my head around it.

Sadly I think many people today now believe that in any situation there has to be a victim and an oppressor. They only see things in black and white and take the view that a member of the so called oppressors can never have anything done to them that is unacceptable.

There is no attempt to understand the roots of the issue and to condemn the suffering on both sides. Many people are influenced by clips on TikTok and never question the origins of these views. If these marches had been to end the conflict and condemn suffering on both sides I would have totally supported them. I don't think that all the people marching are anti-semites but I do think the continuation of the marches is emboldening those who hold anti-semitic views. I wouldn't ban them but I certainly wouldn't join them.

Agree

Lifesd · 23/11/2023 20:05

I can only imagine they want to convey what inhumane rapist/terrorist apologist scumbags they are to be honest. I personally despise the marches that have taken place but I respect the right for those to hold them - those same people enjoying those rights should respect the rights of people to put up posters highlighting the plight of kidnapped babies and children on the other side of the conflict. I’m honestly shocked and appalled at this board.

Yes the Met. It's disgusting.

But flyposting is illegal for whatever reason that's the law.

Do you think this woman goes around ripping down every poster she sees? Would you rip these posters down?

Bonkersworknonsense · 23/11/2023 18:30

And for all the Jew haters out there, I’ll remind you that in addition to innocent kidnapped Israelis, there are also 23 Thai and at least one Nepali being held without access to the Red Cross, by the terrorist Hamas.

It's supposed to convey antisemitism, and it does that quite effectively.

And yes, this.

Oh so that's why they were tearing the pictures of the innocent down with such vitriol 🤔... thank for clearing that up!

You said it better than me!

Limeandsodaontherocks · 23/11/2023 13:15

I have been so naive .

I genuinely thought the days of blatant anti semitism were in the past.

I thought people with anti semitic views were in a small minority and their views would not be tolerated by the majority.

And yet none of those caught on camera gave that as a reason

Surely flyposting is illegal these are not missing posters as there is no utility in terms of helping find them. That being said why not have a free for all fixing posters for whatever cause or reason anywhere you want to. So I would favour no flyposts for any reason end of and since it is causing community tension it should be stopped.

Disgusting

Limeandsodaontherocks · 23/11/2023 11:53

The police statement continues:
"We will continue to work with local authorities and the community to ensure posters can be displayed. We regret any offence caused."

Indeed.

'combat the very mentality that asks ‘ ‘why are those posters there?’ (Yet doesn’t ask ‘why are the marches there?’ )'

Once again I am surprised by the black and white thinking of some Mumsnetters on this issue. Of course it is disgusting what happened on 7th October. Of course everyone feels distraught at the idea of the Israeli hostages and the Israelis who were murdered. That's not in question.

I think I can also see why people with connections in Palestine might feel incensed about these posters in London (because what are they for, really?) when - I'm not 100% certain about the numbers - but it's approximately 10 times the number of Palestinians have died. Half of them children.

Sadly it is in question. Not everyone does feel distraught. There are plenty of people across the world, and the western world, and the UK who have actively celebrated the attacks, and others who defend the attacks. Others who say they condemn the attacks yet knowingly march alongside those who celebrate or excuse the attacks.

The posters are to remind people of the humanity of the Israeli victims and their suffering as so many seem to be overlooking this.

For all people come on here to say ‘of course I care about the Israelis too but’. Those marches are not for all victims of this conflict, and I think we all can imagine the reception anyone would have got if they have attended that march with a ‘Bring the hostages home’ banner. Those marches are highly polarized and highly partisan and highly ‘side picking’ . And I assume that is the context in which people are asking others to remember Israeli Jews are people too and this is what has happened to them. In fact they are there to combat the very mentality that asks ‘ ‘why are those posters there?’ (Yet doesn’t ask ‘why are the marches there?’ )

XRAYTHIS · 23/11/2023 09:34

To answer the OP's question ripping down posters conveys hatred. The woman's contorted face displays hatred. It also conveys ignorance.
