@Trulywonderful - sadly, you are right.

@Trulywonderful thanks for posting info about the March on every thread.

I only did the threads that I thought had people that may be interested

I could do the echo chamber ones about the conflict too but somehow think that would be pointless

Trulywonderful · 23/11/2023 11:57

I hope but not convinced of it

I see a lot of lip service but not many people want to actually do something about Jew hate

Hopefully I am very wrong and it is a decent crowd

@backtowinter I so hope you are right. It will be interesting to see who shows up apart from the U.K. Jewish community. I really hope there's a good turnout.

Hopefully there will be a lot of people attending.

All those that want peace must surely support fellow brits who are being targeted by hate

I feel there is a lot to be gained from having moderate people of all faiths and countries engaging in dialogue but to achieve that I think we need to declare what the barriers to peace are. For instance the destruction of the state of Israel is anti Semitic so I think it is a given that Israel needs to remove Hamas as an existential threat. The means of doing this have proved extraordinarily difficult and there has been unfortunately large civilian casualties in Gaza. I think everyone wishes a peaceful resolution to this conflict soon.

However in order to achieve peace there needs to not be a residual sense of vengeance from all concerned and I fear that may be the really hard but to crack. It is obvious that Hamas rely on a jihadist ideology to help support its aims and this ideology as well as fuelling anti semitism is a threat to the wider western community.

To prevent a growth of anti semitsm there needs to be an acknowledgment that there needs to be a two state solution and that the boundaries respect the current territorial borders along which many Israelis have died. I am sure that as in the UK peaceful co existence can ultimately happen but there needs to be an end to the resentment of Palestinians about Israel and vice versa. Surely continued bitterness about decisions made after WW2 can only lead to more bad feeling?

Confused by your first paragraph re the destruction of Israel.
Gaza is not Israel
Israel has a right to defend itself, it does not, have a right to bomb Gaza and all it’s people.

Yes, you're right. It's why wars happen, vengeance. Nobody seems to be coming at this with an aim of peace, from this point today what do we do to achieve it... they're constantly referencing the past and until they stop that, there will not be peace.

Hi Tower
Sorry I had a busy day, I looked for that report and only found reference to it but that was in the Daily Mail so I was looking for the original report or at least a way more reputable one! I cannot find it but I definitely did see a news report on it somewhere in the last couple of weeks. I will have another look this week and post if I find it. I imagine in any case it isn't a stretch to think that there are certain topics in certain areas that are very contentious and teachers may avoid teaching them in depth.

It was the DM who started the rumour - which was just that - in the first place. I linked an academic article earlier on in the thread which talks about it, and the moral panic which followed. So basically, it wasn't true!

noblegiraffe · 20/11/2023 18:46

Have you done an ancestry DNA test maybe you have a little bit of Jewish in you

My background is Irish Catholic so I'd be very surprised!

Parkingt111 · 20/11/2023 08:17

Hello hope you are well. You mentioned you were going to look for the report of schools not teaching about the holocaust to Muslims in the UK to avoid controversy so I have had a look myself and the only thing I could find was what @etmoiandme mentioned how it was reported and proven to be a hoax

I just wanted to add that I did say I was taught about it but briefly. I went to a state school with majority Muslim students. To be honest most of the parents at the time were probably engaged with more worrying issues like poverty, trying to make ends meet and then the aftermath of 9/11 on Muslims than try and police the schools history lessons but that was just my experience.

I have been reading the other threads and I don't always comment. Because of my fierce pro Palestinian stance i know my presence is not always welcome on some threads like the placard one so I tend to avoid it.

But from what I have read, even without looking at statistics its clear to me that anti semitism is on the rise and many Jewish people do not feel safe. Alot of what posters have said draw scary parallels to what many muslims suffered and felt like after 9/11 so I fully believe it and i would hope that at times abit more empathy is shown simply because we know what it feels like to be blamed for something simply by association of faith/race

Sometimes this happens because as a PP said we live on our own echo bubbles. Our social media feed only shows us the content we often want to see. If you had asked me my view on certain things a month ago and now, some would now be different. Only because of what I read from some Jewish posters on here who has helped me to see things from a Jewish person's perspective. I'm sure I still have many views and stances that yourself and others would disagree with but in a conflict like this that is probably expected

posters who come on here and say they are not Jewish but want to support Jewish people.

I don’t think you mean me. I have reported some Islamophobic posts, but obviously people may display some unconscious bias that they may not be aware of. The area where I live doesn’t give much exposure to other cultures so it is definitely useful to hear the (calm) experiences of people from different backgrounds on here.

The other day I saw dogshit smeared on a parked car sporting a Free Palestine sticker which I found really shocking and upsetting.

First of all YUCK!

I think you are very antisemitic and Islamophobic, what you talking about! (Joking)

I have seen posters decide you are Jewish because you call out antisemitism. Which is amusing though kind of says a lot about the state of things on here lately. Nobody is expecting many non Jewish people to call them out.

It is a bit stereotypes but most the Jewish woman I know are strong minded logical critical thinking and not afraid let others know their opinion. Therefore you would make a great Jewish woman. Have you done an ancestry DNA test maybe you have a little bit of Jewish in you😂

Parkingt111 · 20/11/2023 10:15

@noblegiraffe that unconscious bias is very true. From all my Muslim friends and family that I know its rare for me to have seen any blatant anti semitism but in their anger there has been times where its sort of skirting the line you can say. People I know are so filled of grief and anger. I know many muslims who have said that since the start of this war it has and continues to have a massive affect on their day to day lives.
Their are many reasons why this affects people more than other conflicts and I don't think it's fair to say that the reason for all who are speaking out is anti semitism (again not aiming at you but I see this come up many times)

Its also a conflict that has been ongoing for most peoples entire life time, and therefore one that they empathise and relate with at a greater level as its what they see as a lifetime of injustice/oppression (again i know this is subjective) This time round its probably worse because we can see in real time the day to day horrors of the war and the worst part is the Gazans absolutely cannot escape it. They are being killed in their homes, in the refugee camps, in the hospitals, in the schools and even in the safe zones. Regardless of who one blames they have nowhere to escape which In itself is horrifying to even try to comprehend.

I really do pray that after this a fair two state solution is reached and an effort made to address grievances on both sides so that both can finally live a life of dignity and safety

etmoiandme · 20/11/2023 10:04

@Parkingt111 I just wish more British Muslim and Jewish people would appreciate our commonality!

Trulywonderful · 20/11/2023 10:04

etmoiandme · 20/11/2023 09:33

@Trulywonderful Ah yes, the 'as a Jew' crowd. And I think they're a group who can be subdivided further - the 'Walker' types who don't do Islamophobia as such but are just massively antisemitic usually making us out to be shadowy liars (I'm sure you know who I mean and I've actually seen a few posters and thought "is that her?). Their whole raison d'etre is to make the Jewish community look bad, as you say.

Edited

Joy of social media to some is they can pretend to be whoever they like or have as many user accounts as they like. However yes I believe there are a couple of users with at least one other account. If we don't engage with them they will literally talk to themselves. The writing style and phrases they use are ridiculously similar. At work of a couple of students did this you would know one had copied the other. In this case it is very possibly a user with two accounts.

Anyway it just makes them a sad individual and better to just ignore them. They are not fooling many people and most just ignore their posts if they haven't worked it out anyway. What with them being obnoxious etc

Parkingt111 · 20/11/2023 09:54

@noblegiraffe I'm not sure if you are asking me or @etmoiandme. If me then i definitely do not mean you at all and I have seen you actively call out islamophobia and anti semitism so thank you

As I said they are normally split and the
The first are those who are genuinely upset and want to show their support

And from a Jewish perspective, @noblegiraffe is definitely what we would call a "mensch".

Parkingt111 · 20/11/2023 09:57

@etmoiandme thank you for your lovely post. Unfortunately divide and rule has been around for thousands of years by the rulers and maybe sometimes we fall into the trap ourselves.

Xenia · 20/11/2023 09:36

I don't think of anyone as my enemy. I just support Israel (am Christian and have certainly never claimed to be Jewish - I have had fund tracing my family tree back to the 1700s on just about all sides and it is extremely boring - everyone back to then from UK or Ireland although all humans are from Africa if we go back far enough and I am 3% Neanderthal DNA too).

The UK and USA support Israel, so it is not particularly surprising that lots of people in the UK and USA support Israel - that is our Governments' stance and a very justifiable stance. I also support eg Australia (a democracy) particularly against China (not a democracy) trying to damage its interests.

On schools my sons' school used to show everyone aged 12 Schindler's List before they left the school. We live in North London in one of the most mixed area of the UK and I think that kind of film was a good thing to show boys of that age just before they left the school.
