Documenting Israeli army racism and torture

Desertrose2023 · 15/11/2023 04:25

this thread is to document the racist, criminal and dehumanizing behaviour by the most “moral army in the world” both during its most recent bombardment of Gaza and across decades of military occupation in the West Bank.

to start, here is a video of Israeli soldiers chanting they will turn Gazans into Kebabs.

Of course young children are innocent. You have manipulated part of sentence to score a point without answering the bigger question.

What I actually said was that women, young children and many others are likely to be innocent - very different from what you inferred.

Edited

I didn't manipulate anything, I simply extracted 'women' and 'many others' as they are likely to be innocent civilians, but of course we don't know that. Children should not be in the same category. And I'm not trying to point score (what would be the point in that?), I'm just merely pointing it out. There have been a number of posters who have said Palestinian children are not innocent, even the government makes no secret that they propagate this narrative.

Young children are likely to be innocent victims? I think you mean young children are always innocent victims. It would appear you hold beliefs that Palestinian children are born terrorists?

There is a parallel legal system - Palestinians are dealt with according to military law and Israelis (ie Jewish, they are treated differently even if they don't have Israeli citizenship) according to civilian law. It will come as no surprise that military law is much harsher, no evidence is required to be convicted, very few rights exercised etc).

This article says 99% of detainees are Palestinian. Israel is the only country in the world that imprisons children (from age 12).

They're so terrified. Imagine living like this every single day. Not knowing whether you're going to live or die to see another day.

@feralunderclass I imagine this parallel system is of concern to children's charities!. I also thought it is good to explain the connections between human rights, democracy and the justice system, since some people may think it doesn't matter how the children are treated because they, allegedly, threw stones. I think it does matter, basically for the legal system to have integrity and for the country to be a legitimate democracy.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 21/11/2023 13:16

A lot of posters on here have detailed facts and sent links to what's been happening and you both seem ignorant of those facts.

Whatever the history, it doesn't change the fact that a genocide is happening right in front of our eyes and it needs to stop now.

Here it is again

Here’s why Palestinians object to the term ‘Israeli food’: It erases us from history

Interesting Palestinian take which addresses some of the counter claims on this thread, from a Palestinian perspective. Comments worth a read as well.

treeees · 21/11/2023 12:29

@25milesfromhome There's a carefully written and nuanced article you might want to read linked above by an actual Palestinian person who explains why he and others are so upset about the foodstuff issue. The comments below too are very enlightening. Might be worth you having a read then you might understand the Palestinian perspective on this, which is why people have raised it.

I'm not claiming to be on a "side" here, just interested to know why it is raised so often as an issue.

Seems the Israelis like to claim everything that belongs to others as their own 🙄

That’s quite a bold statement to make.

It’s a very Western centric/white saviour point of view to speak of (and for) one group of people trying to “claim” a food/culture/practice from another in the MENA region. Viewing it through the Western lens of cultural appropriation, based on a Western/white/European history of colonialism and oppression of indigenous people and their customs denies that all these cultures have existed for a very long time in the same places and share many foods and rituals.
There’s no need to erase anyone or deny the cultural significance of food to more than one group of people, they all share it and it should be valued. Anyone trying to “claim” any food for one group or another is just a bit of a dick. Trying to turn it into yet another battleground to portray “Israelis” (uh huh, sure that’s who you meant) as liars and thieves, and imposing Western history, political and cultural ideologies onto an entire non-Western/non-European/non-white geographical area is a narrow minded interpretation and a teeny bit racist. That’s it from me anyway, carry on documenting.

ETA a missing word.

@whatswrongwiththeworldddd Horrifying. Hamas are barbaric. We all know this. What Israel supporters don't want to admit is that Israel is no better.

Exactly. I don't understand why they won't condemn Israel for killing some of their own on 7/10.

@untitledmum In the UK we have human rights which provide a certain amount of rights to prisoners and minors in custody. Many other countries do the same. It is a benchmark of democracies that they follow the law, even when dealing with individuals who don't. Otherwise there is no difference between upholders of the law and breakers of the law. It's all essential to a robust justice system, democracy and the law.

Israel ratified the UNCRC, which is supposed to be the rubric which affords children rights and awards them protection. Except Israel does not extend these rights to Palestinian children, for which UNICEF and other child's rights organizations have strongly condemned Israel.

The comments under that article also offer some interesting debate on the topic, both ways.

You're really showing your ignorance here. At best.

Particularly coming out with this nonsense during Mizrahi Heritage Month! Tragic, really. How embarrassing.
