According to the Israeli PM. Do you believe this? And if you do, what's your background in geopolitics, level of education and religious belief. Does Hamas = Isis? Or are Hamas the equivalent of the mafia?

As much as I abhor the bombing in Gaza, is this realistic, that we protest and hope that we are not next?

And is the deterioration of western, Christian values a result of our vulnerabilities? Israel attacked, and Russia and China muscling us up on that and have taken their chances because we, the west, ARE weak. ??

Oh right, definitely true then 🙄

@HermioneWeasley said that "Hamas absolutely ARE ISIS" which is factually untrue. I didn't see anyone saying that should be deleted.
All I said was that ISIS and Israel have much in common and both want to wipe people from the map. The video I posted shows current Israeli leaders declaring their territorial ambitions, and Israel is currently wiping Gaza off the map. So what is your objection to what I've said, @Louloulouenna ?

I would delete it if it was untrue, but here's the evidence:

What ideals are those Confused And no of course I would want 1000s of innocent people killed and millions of innocent people starved because of a terrorist attack in my country. You are kidding yourself or your government is if you think any of this is about Western ideals.

Edited

@OuiOuiKitty , you have said 'and no of course I would want 1000s of innocent people killed...'

I am reading that as a typo and that you meant that you wouldn't want 1000s of innocent people killed.

Louloulouenna · 15/11/2023 07:52

It is perfectly obvious that Hamas is not capable of taking over the entire world. It is also perfectly obvious that their aim is to continue to carry out murderous attacks on Jews wherever possible. It is also obvious that given the opportunity they would carry out murderous terrorist attacks on other western targets.

He says this for the not very bright American audience and a justification for the current genocide. Unfortunately they’re are plenty thick enough to believe it and believe Hamas taking over the world is remotely possible. It is far more like once Israel has taken the whole of historic Palestine they will want to expand their borders further.

People need to think about why our government and other western democracies are calling for a pause and not a ceasefire. No one wants to see innocent civilians killed but they also want to retain the right to defend themselves against the terrorist threat to western values and lives. It is an uncomfortable truth.

Sorry, but "humanitarian pauses" ... just think it through to its logical conclusion ... are just the most cynical thing imaginable!

What it boils down to is: "let us feed and water these people so that they can die of the bombing rather than of dehydration --- mostly because: maybe we will feel less guilty if we get to say but we gave them food and water, how sad that they were killed".

"Humanitarian pauses" are cynical and self-serving to the max! If you are willing to come out and say "I think any number of civilian fatalities is okay", then ... just come out and say so!

....and sometimes, but certainly not always, those men are encouraged by their women-folk.

There do seem to be quite a few land hungry ladies on these posts as well so I’m not sure that statement applies in this particular crisis.

Bullshit @OuiOuiKitty we absolutely have skin in this game. We are part of Israel’s history, and are you telling me that that the day those atrocities that were committed on the 7/10 you would not want to route out and destroy the enemy that caused it? If you live in a western democracy I suggest you subscribe to its ideals.

My Western democracy is calling for a ceasefire because we have no skin in the game. We don't sell arms to Israel, we don't do war, we're never going to have control over oil we are too small for that, we don't need to own a country in the Middle East. The same can't be said about others that are backing Israel. The only way these countries can get their population to back what is looking like an attempted genocide is by scaring them with the bogeyman. It's an uncomfortable truth.

MariaLuna · 14/11/2023 23:06

There are constant Jihadi attacks all over the world which don’t involve Jews (and obviously many that do) . Particularly in Africa. These get nothing like the international coverage should.

Yes. AQIM in Mali for instance. Been going on since 2012. Spreading too (Niger, Burkino Faso). There's been hostages in Mali that were released after 5 😮years....
BBC news online Africa section is the one I follow (family reasons).

Boko Haram of course in Nigeria (schoolgirl kidnappings etc.).
Al Shabab, Somalia. Failed state since god knows when....

All of it I find heartbreaking.

Edited: typo

Some bonkers takes on this thread.

I think Hamas and other groups want a Palestinian state as agreed many years ago and an end to apartheid in Palestine. I don't think they have any interest in Europe or America and I'm frankly baffled at the question.

Hamas are Islamist arseholes, and their attacks on civilians are inexcusable.

But Hamas are absolutely nothing like ISIS.

To claim otherwise is just to out yourself as "person who has absolutely zero understanding of geopolitics, ME politics, political Islam, or any other potentially pertinent topic".

ISIS was (is, for the small remnants that still remain) a globalist, Salafi Islamist movement with the eventual goal of conquering the world and subjecting it to its particular, pretty twisted, understanding of Islam.

Hamas is, in essence, a nattionalist movement with an islamist twist. Its ultimate stated goal is to re-conquer all of historical Palestine, and their ideology is, in essence, Islamist.

I may seem "blasé" about this - and maybe I am! I just happen to come from the angle of "well, I already thought Hamas sucked 20 years ago".

But, no, ISIS, as a globalist movement, and Hamas, a nationalist one, are nothing like each other. I am an atheist and just not a fan of any sort of islamism (have I mentioned that I am an atheist). But it serves noone to pretend that "Islamism" is not as broad a spectrum as, e.g. "liberalism" is.

For us Brits: it´s a bit like - deliberately exaggerating in order to illustrate my point - claiming that "UKIP are like the SNP - both state they believe that Britain should be an electoral democracy".

Louloulouenna · 14/11/2023 22:11

That is a ridiculous argument.

BLOWBACK: HOW ISRAEL WENT FROM HELPING CREATE HAMAS TO BOMBING IT
Hamas wants to destroy Israel, right? But as Mehdi Hasan shows in a new video on blowback, Israeli officials admit they helped start the group.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. Listen to former Israeli officials such as Brig. Gen. Yitzhak Segev, who was the Israeli military governor in Gaza in the early 1980s. Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”)

The IRA/Sinn Fein had more in common with the PLO. Nationalists rather than religiously motivated.
