Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

@Lobster7 not 'people'.... children. They murdered children. And there are 33 children the youngest is 10 months. Many are without their parents. Imagine how terrified they are?

Lobster7 · 18/11/2023 18:48

@Jupitersstorm Hamas murdered people on October 7th and everyone has rightly condemned them. I do not support Hamas.

Israel are currently murdering children and have been for the last 43 days. If anyone is using whataboutery, it's you.

Trulywonderful · 18/11/2023 18:47

In London the police are now keeping train station protesters in a kettled circle to one side or in the middle of a station. Then the rest of us can just walk around them no problem. Then eventually they get permission to remove the protests and have been fair good at this because it is normally only about 50 people. Not the hundreds sometimes reported or at the beginning.

I only wish the police could good with the trouble makers on the other protests.

Xenia · 18/11/2023 18:43

Thee will be a huge mass of different views on protests. Some will just be bored and turn up for a bit of a day out. Some will have been crying for weeks over the issues. Some will be sending money to Hamas and others will detest Hamas.

Very regular street marches can lead to problems with law and order however and can mean very expensive policing resources are spent which could have been spent on other things. Those people protesting would probably do the people of Gazxa more good if instead they took another weekend shift at work and sent the proceeds to charities working in the area (as long as they are not linked to terrorists groups like Hamas).

Climbing a statue = unreasonable behaviour
Murdering children in the name of self defence = totally reasonable behaviour

"Murdering children in the name of self defence = totally reasonable behaviour"

Yes - that does rather nicely sum up the behaviour of Hamas terrorists -the people you obviously support -using innocent humans as shields. I don't think this is reasonable at all.
Nice try also earlier - "accidentally on purpose" posting a comment that you acknowledged derailed the thread with your consummate whataboutery skills.

It just makes me ask what is that supposed to achieve. It just makes the general public think these are hateful people and then question their agenda etc. It does Gazan people no good to have that type campaigning for them. Similar to why Jewish groups have told EDL to sod off and they don't need their support.

The only thing it achieves is they get an ego trip out of it and intimate people that are worried about this kind of thing. Totally pointless idiotic behaviour at its best.

Xenia · 18/11/2023 18:38

Policing protests has never been easy anywhere and getting the stance right at all times since civilisation began. I have been very annoyed by JSO blocking roads of people needing to get to work, hospital etc but others will see them as heroes.

Sometimes it can be best to let people let off steam but if that means the rest of the 67m people of the UK who are wanting to go to a station to catch a train or walk around in London are impeded or feel threatened by those marching it is not easy for the police to know where to draw the line. In some ways seeing how many people (even if it is just a small % of those marchhing) who support terrorism may be quite useful for us all to see what is amongst us when more often it may be hidden away.

It must never get to a point where he who shouts loudest or he who reacts most violently in the UK gets their way however. The police need to aware most people don't go on the marches and about 60% of the UK apparently could really care less about things happening the middle east. I might be supporting Israel here and some support the other side but the majority of people in the UK are just wanting to deal with very pressing daily problems like paying the bills.

I could point out little children were murdered on October the seventh and mutilated and there'd be no need for self-defence if that hadn't happened. But this is supposed to be a thread about the protests so I'll stick to that.

Sorry - I meant to add this image here to this post:

I do think that images like this indicate that these statue climbers want to intimidate and incite - hardly indicators of a "Peaceful" march.

Hard to believe this is in London.

Simpler scenes around London straight after the pogrom. When they were out celebrating. They climbed on statues and things waving flags and flares then too. So in the case of these particular types of protesters it has nothing to do with a ceasefire or Gazens in general. It is definitely just to intimate and incite. Also to say they can do whatever they want now and nobody can stop them.

I don’t think you’ll find many people who will disagree with the amnesty quote on that article about the 2014 conflict. The Israeli authorities and Hamas are truly as bad as each other.

It is absolutely appalling that, while Israeli forces were inflicting massive death and destruction upon the people in Gaza, Hamas forces took the opportunity to ruthlessly settle scores, carrying out a series of unlawful killings and other grave abuses

Unfortunately there seems to be no end to people that call Hamas resistance fighters or freedom fighters like I said

I have worked with many a man over the years that have said they view Hamas as resistance fighters. Quite often it is said without being relevant to the conversation too. Never get this from women. Just men that don't like a strong Jewish woman telling them what to do at work. I label them a fuckwit and ignore their ignorance.

Anyway like I said in a post I only posted the Amnesty reports here because some said about starting a thread on Hamas abusing Gazens. Not really something I want to be debating myself at the moment. We might come back to it at some stage depending on how things end up I suppose.

Yes in my view too many people seem to think Hamas and their people are Gods and the others are the devil. I agree with "It's kind of astounding that a terrorist group is putting its citizens in the way of a defence force trying to find hostages that the terrorist group refuse to release."

On the climbing on statues it will probably clam down soon as the British weather is often too awful as we move into winter for many people to want to be out and about. If any damage is done that is criminal damage. However even if no damage is done if people climb up things that are unsafe eg eco people high up above motorways that can be a criminal act as they might fall and hurt others, never mind themselves.

No it wasn't, you meant to post that here.

I think we were just ignoring it but yes they did. I had just posted the Amnesty link to how Hamas and PA behave horrifically. So the poster obviously got nervous about that. It doesn't suit the narrative some people are determined to believe eg resistance & Freedom fighters

Palestine protesters storm Bullring live as campaigners told to 'shut Birmingham down'

Palestine peace marchers have stormed the Bullring is afternoon after more than 100 people stopped traffic on a march from Small Heath to the city centre. The demonstration was monitored by police but officers could not stop a stream of those involved getting inside the giant mall when they reached the city centre.

Our reporter saw Bullring security staff arguing with police officers as the demonstration was split between those who made it inside and those who were kept out. The event was peaceful throughout after the march began from Small Heath Park at around noon.

I think probably because only around 100 protesters turned up they had to do something dramatic so stormed the shopping centre. It is interesting the security guard were arguing with the police. They obviously felt the police should have stopped the protesters from entering and helped to get get them out once inside. So not only us that are watching the police thinking aren't you going to do something

You have more faith in the police arresting people than me Jup and I have a nephew in the police force so not anti police

They literally said this week that they can't arrest people climbing on stuff unless they are causing criminal damage. However there are public unrest laws so that was rubbish. It meant they publicly told the protester they can do what they want. Even if now they have backtracked about it a little

They told the public they would start using facial recognition technology and social media to track down offenders. So the next march a large percentage of people wore masks

They only arrest the ring leader of antisemitic or violent groups of protesters. Even then only if safe to extract the person from the group and crowd. I totally understand this because they need to make sure they don't start a riot/keep the officers safe. However it means people are getting away with hate crimes and violent acts like throwing fireworks.

My faith in the police is certainly wavering now and I genuinely feel that they are scared of a backlash from certain communities.

That's a lot of faith you're putting in the Met, Jupitersstorm, considering they said last time that those scaling memorials "weren't committing any offence"

Words are all very well, but maybe let's wait to see what they actually do if laws are broken on today's protests

Yes - although I am inclined to feel that it is more hope as the frequency and visibility of these marches - and now sweeping up impressionable children in their midst - feels really sinister now. Especially when there are so many anti-Semitism deniers on these boards who try and gaslight worried people.

Glad to see that the police are going to do the right thing and arrest those people committing and inciting public disorder. I mean it's obvious to all that there isn't just one anti-semitic person half a mile away is it? There are literally thousands of people on each march who should have been detained for anti-semitic chants and placards.

The arrests would have been in their thousands last week had the police not been told to be light touch.

Well done Commander Findlay for doing the right thing now.

Police under orders to step in if protesters climb war memorials today

Protests are set to sweep the country today as part of a national day of action staged by hundreds of thousands of people opposed to Israel's war in Gaza, with over 100 rallies set to be staged.
