There's a lot of misinformation/propaganda spreading around and this thread is to raise awareness of the ones circulating. Here's one for example:

Please share any you come across.

War is ugly. People did. had Hamas not invaded Israel Hamas would not have brought this down upon its people. It knew what it was doing. It is reaping what it sowed.

So do I, but then given the sensitivity of many operations the intelligence services and SAS are hardly likely to be shouting their mouths off to the media, social or otherwise

I may have made a mistake though; from the title I thought this thread really was about misinformation, but given OP's latest update it appears it may be just another one-sided bash

These days who truly knows whats smoke and mirrors so to speak

i should hope there is, and also hope it includes the intelligence services too

I honestly don't know but would doubt it; being the BBC I'd expect them to focus more on misinformation on TV and radio, even though they themselves don't have clean hands on this

thats what i was thinking, its almost like they saying others are bad for false information etc

The Palestinians have been a threat to western society for the past 25 years?

Jeez, I have missed that completely!

Anti-Semitic attacks have increased by 1000%. I can’t count the number of posts sneering about ‘the Jews’ feeling afraid. The anti-semitism is so near the surface and this conflict is giving it air. I am in various groups and the vitriol, calling for Israel to be wiped off the map, is awful.

Edited

I'd really like to talk properly about each of these things:

Anti-Semitic attacks having increased 1000%. Is that hyperbole or actual attacks? Do you have a link? My understanding is that there has been a steady increase in crimes based on race and nationality in recent years. Brexit etc. and the general polarisation of society is poisonous. The rise of anti-Semitic, racism and the associated violence is dreadful.

Secondly, 'the Jews'. My understanding, and again I could be wrong, was that Jewish people in the main were good with being referred to, when it's relevant to mention race and/or religion, as Jews. There was a long thread on here ages ago saying that although some groups of people, I'll use myself, would rather be called a Polish person or a person with ADHD, to pick a couple of things, than a Pole or an ADHDer, Many Jewish people pick 'Jews' because it's a race and religion and the identifier is good for them. If it's not, it's worth a conversation. And if people object, I will absolutely choose to refer to people in the way they prefer. Language changes but people may be trying to refer to people correctly.

Third, the vast majority of people on here and IRL favour Israel and Palestine co-existing peacefully. Yes, on both 'sides' there is a contingent of people wanting to wipe the others off the map but the only 'side' capable of attempting that (and currently succeeding) is Israel. And it's complicated by Israel being the only Jewish state. And so objecting to Israel looks like objecting to Judaism, in a way that objecting to Palestine doesn't look like Islamophobia. But generally next to no one wants Israel wiped off the map.

It is horrifying to see anti-semitism crawl out of the woodwork and it's unsurprising given history that people are terrified. However seeing Israel's mass killings as wrong doesn't make someone anti-Semitic.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 13/11/2023 19:03

Back in the day, before social media, the media is all we had to go on for information and we wouldn't directly see the impact of wars. But now what Israel didn't count on was social media and the truth about what they're doing being shown for the world to see. This has obviously not worked in their favour and they've had to produce countless fake stories to fit their narrative.

When any govment or group knows the usefulness of the mainstreem media and differnt propaganda methods, then the philosophy study as much as possibl but trust nothing as 100% as a certainy.

A few friends of mine attended the marches and they also said it was peaceful. I saw their videos too.
Unfortunately a lot of people misunderstand the reason behind the marches. They're not hate marches as the lovely Cruella de Braverman said it was. They're peaceful marches calling for the ceasefire. It's not about religion or race but it's a humanity call. Sadly if you're pro Palestine it is mistaken for being antisemitic.

I strongly agree with you.

@MrsTerryPratchett let’s be honest you don’t really know do you. If you follow any Jewish SM sites you’ll see that anti semitism is a bit of a free for all now. All and sundry are quite open in their disdain, using this conflict to express their feelings about Jews. Some of the stuff going on in Unis is disgusting. And folk suggesting that there is a bias against Palestinians are deluded. Literally every thread on this board is pro Palestinian and anyone who thinks differently is rounded on pretty quick.

Your government is literally supporting Palestinians being killed. How is that not bias against Palestinians? Imagine how they must feel living in country where the government thinks their lives are worth nothing. You must also have seen the posters here that insist that Palestinians have 'hate in their dna'? There has been lots of horrendously racist posts towards Palestinians deleted.

Al Jazeera. Well, that’ll be totally unbiased. 🙄

Exactly ffs this is nothing to do with us.

Why don't you go and campaign against all the other wars. There are 32 last time I looked.

It's just weird the obsession by those with no skin in the game.
