Are we really just going to just let this happen. I was upset about the protest ban in France but at least he has finally spoken up. When is the UK going to finally say something and stop letting this happen in our name.

This is the moment we have been warning the whole world the Gaza Deputy Health Minister Dr. Youssef Abu Alreesh, currently inside al-Shifa Hospital as it is takes heavy fire from Israeli forces.
Here are his translated comments:

  • This is the moment we have been warning the whole world of, all generators are off, all power sources are out.
  • We have 39 newborns in the incubators, those babies are fighting against death.
  • No one is able to move around the compound, snipers are stationed all over the place in addition to the drones that target and kill any moving person.
  • A few minutes ago one of the engineering team was hit by a sniper, he was hit in the neck and was paralysed and he’s now about to die.
  • Part of the hospital was shelled and part of the building caught fire, we fear it will engulf the whole compound.
  • A few families tried to leave but they were targeted; now they are lying dead outside the hospital. We cannot get to them.
  • We are totally stranded, we are cut off from the outside world, and above all, we are left without any medical resources. We cannot even bury the dead.
  • Ferocious gunfire can be heard within the vicinity of the hospital, the intensive care unit received a mortar shell a few minutes ago.
  • Blood is everywhere, on the floor, we cannot even clean it.
  • In the past, the Israeli killing machine was killing and this was conveyed on TV screens. Now they are perpetrating the same killing but no one is listening, no one is watching, the whole world is standing by.
  • We are speaking with whatever is left of my phone battery, after that, we will be silent.

'Gaza Deputy Health Minister.' People might want to take a second to think about what that means.

My thoughts exactly.

The world just stands by and lets this happen.

The future generations will wonder how this was allowed to happen.

How did millions of people stand by and watch it happen, why wasn't it stopped?

You think this is Israel 'finishing it?' This is the Israeli government putting a massive target on the heads of their citizens, as many terrorist groups will view all Isrealis as civilian murderers. The Isreali Government know this but care more about killing ALL Palestinians than protecting their own people, which they chose not to do on 7th October. Indiscriminate snipering is not OK. Bombing without a jutification for each and every target is not OK. Those poor people, and our government sits by and watches.

WinterWarmth · 11/11/2023 13:44

It’s so obvious the media and protest campaign against Israel’s retaliation to a terrorist government (Hamas is not just a terrorist organisation but also the government of the state of Gaza remember?) has been orchestrated in the hope that worldwide military action would be taken to intervene against Israel and all the Jews can finally be killed or displaced and the state of Israel shall fall.

The Gazan government and their backers knew full well Israel would have to bomb the hell out them if they had any hope of getting rid of them and they knew Israel would have no option but to do that due to the absolutely horrific and savage attacks they committed on Israeli citizens.

The media and protest campaign was planned well in advance from what I’ve read. There was even a CNN journalist with the Palestinians when they invaded Israel FFS.

@OuiOuiKitty

many people on this thread have direct experience being part of a “country [that] was occupying another restricting their trade, stealing peoples land and homes, killing people on the regular and lying about it”

interestingly “the people we were treating so poorly” were “extremely pissed off about it” although strangely there wasn’t a lot of sympathy in England for the IRA bombings.

@TwilightSkies ,

I didn’t ask what you expected them not to do, I asked what you expected them to do. Not the same question, and a facile answer anyway.

The level of self-deception and moral dishonesty on these threads reaches a new high each day.

People on MN admit to lying and cheating to get their children into a better school, not caring who they trample over to do so. If they actually felt their own children’s lives were under threat, they would be baying for blood, no matter the collateral damage.

The reality is that it is a very hard situation with Hamas shielding themselves amongst the weak, like the cowardly murderers they are. I abhor civilian deaths, and imagine that some Israelis are committing war crimes. However, the aim of the Israelis is to destroy Hamas, not to murder civilians. This is the polar opposite of what Hamas is all about.

I hope that the Americans restrain the way Israel prosecutes its war but prosecute it they must, until Hamas is destroyed.

I actually think that's bullshit. If my children's lives were under threat I would expect them to be protected, not "baying for blood". I also know from experience working with refugees in another part of the world, "baying for blood" is not the default response.

@OuiOuiKitty ,

I am going to take an educated guess and put you in Switzerland, or somewhere similar.

If so, you have just financed the bad guys, killing so much more discreetly.

Has Switzerland financed Israel, I have no idea? I stand by what I said. It is the countries treating people badly, occupying other countries, having nuclear weapons, exerting their control over others, using violence etc that are the problem. Countries that mind their own business, treat everyone in their country well regardless of where they come from or what religion they happen to be are not the problem here, and the fact that you would call countries like that 'cowards' says a lot about you.

@OuiOuiKitty ,

Some would consider avoiding conflict cowardly, while living under the shelter of NATO (even if not a member) and the American nuclear umbrella. It is just subcontracting out your killing, really.

By your argument, fighting against Hitler would be a ‘foreign concept’ to you. I assume you were against us invading Germany and Japan in WW2?

There are, unfortunately, bad actors within this world and, from time to time, civilised countries need to fight to preserve themselves from attack.

I don’t really understand what you want Israel to do, just sit back and let Hamas chuck missiles at them with the odd slaughter of civilians thrown in. Even Israel’s enemies understand what Israel is doing and why. Some may prefer them to prosecute the war against Hamas differently, but few think they are wrong to fight.

Nah. We haven't asked anyone to kill anyone. If everyone was as non violent as us then the world would be a much better place. It isn't the peaceful countries that are the problem it is the blood thirsty ones, the ones that leap to extreme violence, the ones with the nuclear weapons.

Oh and I forgot an important one, the countries that think they have the right to occupy others, they too are the problem.

Stop slaughtering innocent Palestinians maybe? Stop blowing up babies? Stop dropping phosphorus? Stop destroying hospitals? Stop pretending they are doing this because of Hamas? Maybe???

It is easy to sit in our comfortable homes in the UK and condemn Israel. As soon as a terror attack occurred in the UK, everyone on this thread deploring Israel (well maybe 99%) would expect our military to keep us and our children safe regardless of the collateral damage.

I don't live in the UK, we don't have much of an army, they just do peace keeping stuff abroad not massacre type things. It's a really foreign concept to me that people like you would want 1000s of innocent people dead in the name of protection. I expect to be kept safe in my country, to be protected in my country by police and army if necessary but I don't expect my country to invade another and bomb the shit out them, not that we could! I'd be horrified if this was being carried out in my name, genuinely, nevermind be cheering it on.

I'd also be horrified if my country was occupying another, restricting their water, restricting their trade, stealing peoples land and homes, killing people on the regular and lying about it and I would expect that the people we were treating so poorly would be extremely pissed off about it.

@Newbutoldfather “As soon as a terror attack occurred in the UK, everyone on this thread deploring Israel (well maybe 99%) would expect our military to keep us and our children safe regardless of the collateral damage.”

I fundamentally disagree with this tbh. I know it was on a much smaller scale, but even in the aftermath of the 2005 terror attacks I remember some of the British response was to talk about how British activities in the Middle East contributed. Similarly, there continued to be massive amounts of criticism for the War on Terror. I think there would be support for military action but they would have to do what they did last time and make sure the scale of civilian casualties was kept out of the press.

I am very pro Israel and their right to deal with the terrorists on their border. Even if they are targeting Hamas, who hide behind the weak like the cowards they are, this is grim.

It is also a huge mistake. The optics are terrible regardless of their motivations; there must be a more intelligent way of targeting based under hospitals without killing the sick and injured.

Thank you for saying this. It is voice like yours that resonate. Please continue to be brave.

Even for Israel this is creating only more terrorists across the world for the future. Israelis deserve to live in peace as well.

I understand things are done in retaliation, somethings cannot be ignored but if one is to try and understand who is in the right here , it is virtuallyimpossible. Both parties have done terrible things but always in apparent retaliation - we know both parties want us to belive their narrative , but who to believe - what is the truth , meanwhile i put the tv on and cry and what i am seeing to humans. Who cares where they live, their beliefs or religion - they are just people.like us and back here it is so hard to understand how leaders can think this is ok. Iran, US and everyone else need to stop funding this war, why are we enabling this destruction. Breaks my heart

Newbutoldfather · 11/11/2023 11:25

None of this would have happened without the Hamas attack, so it is easy to take sides. In the same sense, I ‘took sides’ in the war against terrorism despite the horrors of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

It is easy to sit in our comfortable homes in the UK and condemn Israel. As soon as a terror attack occurred in the UK, everyone on this thread deploring Israel (well maybe 99%) would expect our military to keep us and our children safe regardless of the collateral damage.

That does not mean I cannot deplore this attack close to a hospital. Sometimes friends in a fit of anger do bad things.

Birdbaby · 11/11/2023 11:19

I dont know how anyone can take sides in this warand agree with any action being taken. Innocents are geing tortured, murdered on both sides, regardless if in retaliation. Everyone is in the wrong. The human race do not deserve to live if we think it is okto have these atrocities, i am ashamed snd regrrt having my dc

I wonder if Israel is aware that sitting back and allowing this to happen doesn’t mean that afterwards the World will resume such favourable relations with them. No one is going to forget this.

At some point as younger world leaders step into power they’re are going to question how much value they’re getting out of supporting Israel when they cannot exert much influence. Historically, the west has always been prepared to work with countries with radically different values when it suits. There is no guarantee that the strategic partner will continue to be them.

Good people ARE saying something, every day. But while the US uncritically backs Israel no matter what, it is futile.

We can’t believe this.

There have been too many instances of impossible change occurring in history where the powers that be were always opposed to it but it happened. It has happened, and it can definitely happen now especially with the help of social media which we didn’t even have those times.

Against slavery, against holocaust, against apartheid, against female vote. All of these things, the powerful were opposed to it but enough voices will made it happen.
