No Biden is making the same play as Macron, it isn't Israel is bad considering he has sent a military arsenal to the area, it is mainly due to domestic politics.

This really isn't the win that some want it to be.

They are complicit.

I really would jump to assuming that's the case, you need to be aware that President Macron has got to walk a fine line with his domestic audience (the point @Justanotherlurker made)...

He had to tread very carefully with the quite reasonable concerns of the Jewish community, hence many of the statements post Oct 7th, now he perhaps needs to say something to placate the very sizeable Muslim community....I wouldn't read any more into it than that.

Macron is thinking on geopolitical lines and trying to calm things down in France, it isn't something that is pro gaza, it is wanting things in france to cool down.

This isn't the win you think it is, it is because of the 'peaceful protests' to a conflict ~4000 miles away and trying to somewhat calm them down with having gone through multiple terrorist attacks and obvious rise in anti-Semitism.

There is a lot of chatter on french SM of comparison to police involvement to the yellow vest movement and general riots the past couple of years.

This isn't a gotcha, because frankly Hamas and Israel will both ignore frances request, same as they would do the UK and the rest of the world, it is a more a realisation moment of the complexities of a multicultural society and how to address it going forward.

There's also been calls on the ICC to issue warrants for members of the Israeli military and army for 'indiscriminate bombing of urban areas' all these countries are now worried on how they will have been seen as complicit in this

The two issues are entrenched and the Israeli government is very good at PR. Any criticism of them is repackaged as anti semitism, some even regard the Palestinian flag as a terrorist flag. That's how successful they are in controlling the narrative to their advantage.

It suits Netanyahu to continue the war as it detracts scrutiny from his dodgy record in office. He wants to be remembered as the president who took down Hamas and as a war hero. So the longer he can stretch out this war the better for him.

Now we've got a Home Secretary who apparently has a relative in the IDF so figure that one out. This nutcase, the home secretary, also has the power to curb our right to proteat. She's doing a smashing good job of it so far.....

@Parkingt111 I agree but the phrase ‘we want you to win’ was unnecessary. We know U.K. leaders like to try and be important by tagging along with whatever the US say, but there was something not quite right about Sunak’s obsequious support of the Israeli government.

Oh you can as far as I’m concerned. People are under the impression Israel is some sort of cuddly liberal democracy like any Western European country, but it’s actually a racist apartheid state who’s aim is never to allow the creation of a Palestinian state. At the moment it’s involved in a campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide. Its government contains a convicted terrorist and a KKK style supremacist who declares himself to be a fascist. In the West Bank violent settlers frequently intimidate and kill Palestinian villagers with the support of the Israeli army and government (10,000 assault rifles were purchased to give to settlers). If you want to know where this is going just ask what happened to the native population of North America or the Aborigines in Australia.

A humanitarian pause means Hamas has the opportunity to regroup and send more rockets over to Israel, something that MSM fails to report TakeMe2Insanity.

France's stance on the war since the start has always been pro Israel with full unwavering support
To see Macron say such a bold statement and criticism is certainly not something I would have expected
It just goes to show how terrible the situation in Gaza is, if even Macron is saying so

No idea of what his thinking is today but FWIW President Macron has been very scathing of Hamas in other speeches over the last few weeks.

I think it's largely because the UK simply follows the US. I don't think its to do with his family, even if we had a different Conservative PM the stance would have been the same
But if tomorrow Biden calls for a ceasefire you can bet Rishi will too

I’d like to see the Palestinian flag projected on to Downing St in solidarity with Palestinians who have lost their lives because of the Israeli terrorists that Sunak so earnestly wanted to win. There was an instant response to the massacre on 7.10 but nothing in response to the retaliatory genocide. Islamophobia in action.
