What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

@Ohlalalalala I just wonder if you read any other sources?

"The Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem reports that since the start of the war, 16 villages and their 880 Palestinian residents have been completely displaced as a result of these attacks; 180 Palestinians have been killed and 64 injured. Over 2,000 Palestinians have been arrested. Videos of their mistreatment and torture have gone viral."

Abhannmor · 27/11/2023 11:52

It's beyond surreal that the old Mossad chief can describe the West Bank as an Apartheid state. This would be grounds for expulsion in the present UK Labour Party.

Stomacharmeleon · 27/11/2023 07:29

@Ohlalalalala oh yes I have just seen.... the socialist worker. Hmmmm.

All the time and in three different languages.

For anyone wanting information from Gaza or the West Bank, Al Jazeera is the most reputable source to have a presence.

Israel seems to have a predilection for targeting journalists there, but are currently avoiding doing that to Al-Jazeera journalists as they already killed its star journalist there, Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead by an Israeli sniper last year which caused an international uproar.

As of November 26, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 57 journalists and media workers were killed since Oct 7.

I can't imagine how terrifying. I just hope they killed them quickly. And yes I believe Hamas have said they did it. I'm sure I'll be corrected if another group has claimed responsibility. Since, strangely enough, no msm seems to be reporting on it, it's difficult to tell.

Stomacharmeleon · 26/11/2023 17:46

@StarbucksSmarterSister I know I have said it but they must have been terrified.

So this was the non existent Hamas in the West Bank?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 26/11/2023 17:38

Humdingerydoo

I saw someone yesterday saying they were lynched because there wasn't a proper legal system due to the occupation. The town these 2 men were murdered in had a new courthouse built 2 years ago but obviously Hamas decided they couldn't be bothered to use it.

The two men lynched.

I've seen further footage of the incident now. It's abhorent - hung and dismembered. What makes it particularly upsetting is that takes place in front of a large mob dancing for joy and recording it.

Knowing that there are more lunatic death cult type organisations out there was well as Hamas is hardly comforting.

Edited

According to this quote from Reuters, it's all Israel's fault

"The Independent Commission for Human Rights, a Palestinian rights group, issued a statement criticising extrajudicial killings but said Israeli authorities were responsible for recruiting Palestinian agents."

So really, it doesn't matter which terrorist group it was, because Israel.

🤦🏻‍♀️

@ScrollingLeaves I do know this, so I don’t need you to tag me. I’ve repeatedly pointed out on here that Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade-to name a few- have operated in the West Bank for years and it’s usually met with flat out denial. You appear to be doing it right now.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Hamas published a statement confirming the accusations of the two men and their execution by firing squad, so the various ‘members of Palestinian armed groups’ can clearly collaborate to murder and terrorise Palestinian civilians in the West Bank when they’re not fighting each other.

As I had said ‘not everyone knows…’
I had not thought you would feel I meant you personally did not know there were other groups, so I apologise for not expressing my points more clearly.

I also thought tagging meant putting @ before a name, not quoting a post for context, which is what I did.

I never said nor meant to imply that if a group other than Hamas carried out these killings that should somehow be a comfort to Israelis, (or Palestinians)! - as it seems some on here assumed.

At the time, because of what The Times of Israel had written, I had just wanted to clarify that it wasn’t Hamas but another group. Because that in itself is important for all sorts of reasons (none implying Hamas are somehow maligned innocents).

Having just seen the Jerusalem Post wrote it was Hamas, and that Hamas also said they did it, I was coming on here to say I had been wrong earlier. Then saw you had already said that the Jerusalem Post had reported this. Thank you as I might not have seen it.

The paper Haaretz has reported it as Hamas and Fatah which confuses me, if that is right, as I thought they were enemies. You may know more about this perhaps.

Won't take long before this thread is derailed anyway.

LemonAidG · 25/11/2023 16:47

@feralunderclass The settler behaviour towards Palestinians is horrific.

stormy4319trevor · 25/11/2023 16:05

Exactly @ItsRainingTacos79 In the past the reason given for Israeli presence was security and there was an assumption the occupation would end, if peace talks could arrange a settlement. Levy's statement seems like it lays the ground for formal annexation of the WB. If it's repeated more frequently, I don't see how Biden and others can not respond.

@25milesfromhome which of course makes it so much easier and is so comforting for the people of Israel that multiple arms groups are out to murder them rather than just the one!

ScrollingLeaves · 25/11/2023 14:57

25milesfromhome · 25/11/2023 13:23

There are various resistance militia groups on the West Bank.

That’s a very polite way to refer to the violent, extortionist terrorist groups who murder, injure and terrorise both the Palestinian and Israeli populations and actively work to destroy any hopes of peaceful coexistence, justice and self-determination for Palestinians. But thank you for that information- I was unaware they existed.

How abhorrent they are, and to what degree, was not the point I was making.

I was responding to a poster who said that Hamas had carried out the killings of the two Palestinian men in the West Bank when Hamas are supposedly not in the West Bank.

My reply quoted The Times of Israel report which did not name Hamas as the perpetrators but did report “members of Palestinian armed groups”.

Not everyone would know there are several different Palestinian armed groups who are operatating in the West Bank who are not Hamas.

stormy4319trevor · 25/11/2023 12:11

@ItsRainingTacos79 I think it's very significant that Levy openly states this. It is basically saying that they will continue building settlements and do what they like in the WB, because it is now Israel. There's a disjunct between this open claim and western politicians talking about negotiating 2 state solutions and fair settlement. Any time a commentator suggests 2 states it needs to be said, this government has already taken the WB - they think it is theirs.

@stormy4319trevor I wonder where all this now leaves the western allies who are supporting Israel's military actions. It is now clear that a two state solution has never been the Israeli government's aim. It will be interesting to hear the UK, Europe and US take on the Israeli government position on this.

Parkingt111 · 25/11/2023 14:06

There is also oppression of the Palestinians. Not only by settlers but also by the Israeli authority.

This is what Israels former Mossad chief said just this September
Pardo told the Associated Press that Israel’s mechanisms for controlling the Palestinians, from restrictions on movement to placing them under military law while Jewish settlers in the occupied territories are governed by civilian courts, matched the old South Africa.“There is an apartheid state here,” he said. “In a territory where two people are judged under two legal systems, that is an apartheid state.”**
