The reason there is no poppy stand on 11 Nov is that they all close up - it's surprisingly hard to find a poppy to buy on the day.

False. There were lots of poppy sellers out yesterday. My local Tesco’s had Scouts and Guides selling them. It’s not like supermarkets running out of stock of Easter Eggs on Good Friday and just having empty shelves.

I think we need to stop perpetuating the fairy tale about peaceful marches because they're absolutely not - the images and videos of what people feel emboldened to do and say in the UK are horrifying. It's not about a war 3000 miles away, it's an opportunity to make the most rancid sewer antisemitism and religious extremism mainstream in the UK and it has to be stopped.

It's similar on here, it's just the latest in a long line of topics from Brexit to Covid to whatever else where some can gleefully (non)virtue signal in the most overwrought, tiresome manner and try to outdo each other in crying over the most lurid scenarios they can come up with. The news cycle will move on soon enough and these threads will be forgotten. I'm not looking forward to the next round of competitive grief though.

Wearing "free Palestine" is a complex phrase. Does it mean a sovereign democratic nation of Gaza and the West Bank with Israel keeping the rest of its land?
Or does it mean Israel to cease to exist and a new muslim state founded covering all of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza?

I was in central London yesterday (not for the march, visiting a friend and got right buggered up in the traffic chaos) and the poppy stands had gone.

It is not misleading and it was yesterday. Of course poppy sellers are still going to set up on the day! It’s probably the best time to catch the last minute buyers. I saw them myself in my own London borough tube station yesterday.

I am sick of bringing “evidence” to those with their heads purposely in the sand. There is currently a two tier policing system in this country which first became apparent when 1000s of white working class girls and smaller amount of none Muslim girls or colour being raped and attacked was allowed to pass. You turn your face to it now because it suits your own experiences and mind set. Personally I’m not happy living in a society policed this way but you do you and don’t complain when the consequences bite you or your loved ones. You’re naive in the extreme if you think that couldn’t happen because your position in life won’t allow it.

@headcheffer I think it would be fine to wear both. There were many veterans at the march yesterday wearing both. They are certainly not mutually exclusive.

Looking at the news this morning, there have been 126 arrests (vast majority from the far right) and a number of Met Police appeals about those in the crowd they want to identify and interview possibly leading idc to further arrests.

It all went pretty well. I have always been a huge supporter of the police and they certainly did a good job in preserving people's freedoms to march, criticise Israel; also to allow the nation - most of the 67 m of us - to remember the WWI and WWII deaths and the fight for our freedoms; and everyone else out and about yesterday.

As for the man on the link above ranting about things is just one man although he does in his statement say ask "why every hundred years the zionists get slaughtered". It is very very very clear he is not talking about the modern state of Israel founded after WII. He certainly is not happy Jews have a country in their original homeland (even though plenty of muslim nations have countries out that way too and even though vast numbers of people on the planet of many kinds don't have their own nations and just put up with it and get on with life).
