Yes, I feel sorry for them. In amongst the corrupt officers, there are many who want to do a good job, and do it well. They don’t deserve the abuse they get. And I would feel a lot safer knowing they were there rather than not. I wouldn’t do their job in a million years, and I am very grateful that they (most of them!) do.

Yeah I feel sorry for them, in this situation, they can't do right for doing wrong. It's also creates loads of extra work, when they are already under resourced.

Simply an observation on people need to be able to protest but we don't trust the police.

You can't expect them to be spat on and have bricks and bottles thrown at them. If you don't want them manhandling the protesters then you need to accept they'll be allowed to go where they want, do as they want.

Yes I feel sorry for the police. Or at least, those who endeavour every day to do their job as it's supposed to be done- with political impartiality and a genuine desire to uphold the law and help the general public stay safe.

Like my DP. I would actually vastly prefer him not to be spat at, hit, kicked and insulted by idiot members of that general public. I would vastly prefer that his superior officers didn't throw him and his fellow officers under the bus every time they think they can gain brownie points from certain groups of the general public. I would vastly prefer that he isn't tarred with the same brush as the corrupt and law-breaking members, of every rank, in the organisation he works for. I would vastly prefer that he didn't have the memories of the results of some of the most hideous crimes and accidents anyone could imagine.

But he chose this profession because he is a good man and he believes, even now, that he can make a difference.

If you don't want the police to try and manage protests then you need to accept the consequences.

Personally I'd allocate somewhere they were allowed to protest and let them get on with it without causing mayhem but it's the mayhem and disruption they want.

I wouldn't want to be a police officer at all, it's not particularly well paid, you have to deal with idiots every day and you are I'm danger most days. I'm astonished anyone wants to do it - but thankful!

As a law abiding member of public I don't feel the police are on my side at all. When I was young they applied the law impartially and without fear or favor. Not so now, they are passive to the aggressive and aggressive to the passive. Its a bad long term strategy.

Perhaps during protests police should just stay out of the way. People have the right to protest and if it descends into a bit looting and arson then that's simply a sign of the public unhappiness at the situation.
