and in my opinion it's a direct result of people turning a blind eye to and excusing the horror of hamas and everything they stand for. It's allowed open season on anti Jewish hate. This has happened TODAY in France.

This is debatable, isn’t it? One could also mount a case that Jewish people are the underdogs who have been greatly disadvantaged by two millennia of persecutions, murders, pogroms and expulsions. Because that is the context for Israel. And it’s also the context through which Oct 7th should be seen by everyone, not just Israelis.

It is also a context that is deliberately put aside by everyone who demanded ‘context’ for the October 7th terrorists.

Calling Palestinians the underdogs in whole context of the ME conflict is not a statement of ‘fact’ it’s not a neutral statement. It’s a highly partisan politicized position.
That’s a fair point. Historically the Jewish people have been greatly victimised.

If you must use phrases like this, the modern day equivalent of ‘the Jews’, at least have the honesty to say ‘the Zionist Jews’.
Well I have to call them something. They were Zionists weren’t they? I was told the word Jews is a big no-no?

If you can read what I say and honestly think I am saying ‘don’t care about Palestinians everyone!’ ThenI don’t know what to say to you
Thats not what I said though

hologramvirus · 25/11/2023 09:13

As I said the Palestinians are the ones who, historically, have been greatly disadvantaged by on going failure of the two state solution.

If you think caring about any of this means you’re turning away from Israeli victims then I don’t know what to say. If you can read what I say and honestly think I am saying ‘don’t care about Palestinians everyone!’ ThenI don’t know what to say to you. Especially when I have very clearly outlined to you what the marches would have to look like for me to support them, where I specifically called for a focus on Palestinian lives rather that fueling more antagonistic partisanship.

This conflict will rumble on for eternity whilst we refuse to recognize the legitimate trauma informing both Israeli and Palestinian positions.

Reallifelurker · 25/11/2023 08:46

I’m not saying that you are saying that.

You have, however, probably accurately identified ( one of the reasons) why people have turned away from Israeli victims and I find that reason absolutely appalling

As I said the Palestinians are the ones who, historically, have been greatly disadvantaged by on going failure of the two state solution. The Zionists took the opportunity to create their state but prevent the creation of the Palestinian state.

The Palestinians are also in a vulnerable position as they are caught between Israel and Hamas (and neither party gives damn what happens to them let’s be honest). The numbers of Palestinian civilian deaths in this conflict are high as I’m sure you’re aware.

Theres a good chance the Israeli government will use this situation to drive the Palestinians out of Gaza. They probably would have already done it by now if Egypt hadn’t been so ruthless in keeping its border closed.

If you think caring about any of this means you’re turning away from Israeli victims then I don’t know what to say.

When I said that the Palestinians are dehumanised and overlooked I actually meant by the Israelis not the wider world (marches etc). I didn’t clarify this earlier as I though you would just get angry but it’s a pretty salient point as far as my POV goes.

It’s a shame the Oslo accords failed. Hamas and
Netanyahu weren’t in power then. Things could have been very different.

How do I expect people to react? Not with anti-Semitism.

@Humdingerydoo if you want a post deleted you can report your own post to mumsnet and ask them to remove it 😊
Not that I'm implying your post should be removed

Humdingerydoo · 24/11/2023 21:03

Actually, I take it back. I don't think @LemonAidG has mentioned Jews being responsible for the war, just that we have loud voices on here. I'm sorry. How do I delete my comments?

However, your insistence on it being about Muslims is inaccurate. Not all Palestinians are Muslim, first of all. Secondly, no one is saying to kill all Muslims.

Reallifelurker · 24/11/2023 20:54

I have every sympathy for the atrocities visited on innocent Israelis on 7/10 but that doesn't mean I'll remain silent about the horrors inflicted on the innocent people of Gaza

I was reading an article (which I may as well link) in which an Israeli was quoted as saying due to the enormity of the attacks they “don’t have room for the other sides pain”. This is understandable but as you say the suffering inflicted on Gaza should also be talked about (but maybe not on this thread lest we be accused of derailing)

@ProvincialLady1 Only the voices that think Palestinian Muslim children are not equal to the Israelis.

Well, since I haven't seen anyone saying that, I think the voices might be in your head tbh.

Surplus2requirements · 24/11/2023 20:46

Humdingerydoo · 24/11/2023 20:37

Oh yeah? So it's now due to racism? Nothing to do with the massacre on 7th October?

More the words Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir keep using.

I have every sympathy for the atrocities visited on innocent Israelis on 7/10 but that doesn't mean I'll remain silent about the horrors inflicted on the innocent people of Gaza.

Stomacharmeleon · 24/11/2023 20:39

@LemonAidG you asked how I knew you weren't anti Muslim.
And you are very much being antisemitic.
All those loud voices.

Humdingerydoo · 24/11/2023 20:37

LemonAidG · 24/11/2023 20:33

@Humdingerydoo The rhetoric that Israel has used shows that they're doing this as a religious war.

You used that expression to explain why people have been more active for Palestinians than Israelis. It’s pretty racist to deprioritise a massacred group because they are part of an oppressing race even though they were clearly a defenseless group being brutalized

I didn’t mean to imply there should be no sympathy for the victims of the massacre. It’s just that the Palestinians have been treated poorly for a long time now (would that be fair to say?) and now there are concerns the Israelis are committing war crimes.
As I said before, I’m not throwing shade at the victims. Any issues I have with Israel are with its government.

I’m not saying that you are saying that.

Humdingerydoo · 24/11/2023 20:32

LemonAidG · 24/11/2023 20:24

@Humdingerydoo So you get to ask all the questions then eh? Accuse people of being anti semitic? How do i know you're not anti Islam?

I think the fact I haven't said anything islamophobic would probably be a good indicator. Unlike you, I don't see this as a war between Jews and Muslims, mainly because it's not a war between Jews and Muslims. I personally have nothing to do with anything that happens in Israel, despite my oh-so-loud voice on MN.

Again, twisting to make something anti Semitic.

I disagree.

Go and count up the threads and posts and I guarantee you are objectively wrong about that. It's strange you would perceive it that way round tbh but I guess any amount of 'voice' is offensive to you.
