The images coming through on news channels are horrific.

@Xenia

Hamas did that despicable attack on the Israeli innocents, not the innocents of Palestine.

There are some posters, thankfully not many, that are outraged at the killing of Israeli’s but either shrug off or actively excuse the same on the other side with worn out tropes.

When Hamas is destroyed a new Hamas v2.0 will arise. Hamas was created few decades ago. Before that there was another group. Unless you sort the problem out you’re just stopping one fire whilst starting the next one

Indeed. Nothing motivates like injustice, and this is the biggest injustice against the Palestinian people yet.

@Lonelycrab and @graciousmouse ,

I am not a Netanyahu fan and I agree re the West Bank settlements but, even if he resigned and the settlements were withdrawn, Hamas would still want to eliminate Israel.

They do need destroying and they do hide within civilian targets.

So it's ok to murder 20 civilians, of which half will be children, to get one terrorist?

Not that I believe Israel had any intelligence of Hamas being in those ambulances. They are bombing indiscriminately now, while most of the western world cheers them on. Barbaric.

People die in war. Hamas invaded Israel - this is what happens. If Hamas had left Israel alone this would not be happening. If people invaded the UK and slit the throats of our babies we would be heaping mayhem and death upon them left right and centre.

You truly have lost your humanity.

Lonelycrab · 03/11/2023 19:40

Do you think, that once every building is razed to the ground within Gaza, that the people are either dead or expelled, that the problem goes away, and it’s a lovely from there all in? Genuine bloody question

I think people judge Israel harshly.

After 9/11, which was in no way an existential threat to the U.S or U.K, the ‘alliance of the willing’ (as they could not get U.N backing), killed 170,000 odd civilians in Iraq.

The 9 million Israelis do feel personally scared and, with 150,000 Hezbollah missiles in Lebanon targeting them, there is a level of existential threat.

What is happening in Gaza is undoubtedly horrific but, if you were the Israeli PM, what would you do??

I'm willing to suppose that the Venn diagram of people judging Israel and the people who judge the US and UK is close to a circle.

If I was the Israeli PM I would get in my Time Machine and go and fix the issues which precipitated all of this.

EasterIssland · 03/11/2023 19:25

When that alliance was created (uk / USA / Spain) I went out in Spain every Saturday to shout not in my name. We called it the shame triangle

Me too!

I was barely, as in: weeks, at best - cannot remember if I even WAS - out of school! Had not even started uni yet!

My primary memory of that time boils down to "standing on Trafalgar Square, ruining my formerly gorgeous soprano for life with how much I shouted and screamed that I objected to this shit with every fiber of my being".

Somewhat incidentally: that was also how I met my Palestinian ex-husband. My Palestine activism is a direct result of how wrong I thought it was for Blair to take us to war against Afghanistan and Iraq at the time!

There was a fairly well attended protest match (in the UK) if I recall. That the Dodgy Dossier was dodgy was never in doubt.

Lonelycrab · 03/11/2023 19:27

but, if you were the Israeli PM, what would you do?

Tell the West Bank settlers to leave, and hand back the stolen land that they’ve unlawfully taken, and treat the Palestinians that live there like human beings?

That might help.

Maybe I’m being unreasonable

I would resign in shame at my behaviour funding and propping up Hamas and shame at my murderous war.

For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces

The premier's policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from

On a side note @HeidiInTheBigCity I've noticed lots more people wearing keffiyeh. They're actually so versatile, keep you warm, protect you from the elements, useful in either a cold or hot environment... Nice that they're becoming popular in the UK too.

They’re really popular where I’m from(Basque Country). We call them Palestinos there. Basque people have always felt really close to the conflict in Palestine

@PurpleChrayne 'I wonder if anyone accusing the IDF of being "awful" took as much interest in the actions of the US or British army during the gulf wars or the war against Al Qaeda...no jews, no news'

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/feb/11/slugs-iraq-war-london-protest-2003-legacy

Plenty did and do. Lots of people discuss, report on and are aware of world affairs. My colleagues discuss Yemen and on going Saudi military action there frequently. What about the outrage against the Rwandan genocide of Hutu refugees and Interhamwe in the Congo in the 90's? Lots and lots of coverage. Also reporting and coverage of Rohingya refugees who had to flee their homes in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

You might want to re write history, but there was, is and always have been plenty of opposition to military action and reporting of it.

Not only then but also American interventionism stretching back decades and Great British colonialism for hundreds of years.

Some of us don't like bullies and haven't for a very long time.

It's not about Jews it's about innocents.

Lonelycrab · 03/11/2023 19:13

The new breed of terrorist thats going to be born from these atrocities is going to be far far worse than anything isreal has ever dealt with before

Unfortunately Israel govt and it’s supporters haven’t quite grasped that very important point yet.

At the same time they’re also becoming an international pariah, due to their utter brutality.

They will be increasingly alone as more and more nations turn their backs.

The cycle of violence continues.
Vengeance, domination and bloodlust are never worthy goals.

A fair and equal solution for all, Israeli and Palestinian, to live in peace, with help from the international community is the ONLY way out of this.

Reallifelurker · 03/11/2023 19:11

Completely agree that hiding terrorists in an ambulance convoy and risking the safety of innocent civilians is the action of scum. Pure depraved lunatic scumbags.

I’n not sure I see the logic in bombing an ambulance even if there are terrorist in the convoy. What is this going to achieve? Are said terrorist irreplaceable? Will Hamas cease now to function.
Did this happen in Gaza City? Because that is basically a war zone now. I think Israel were planning to straight up blitz this area all along hence the repeated warnings to go south where it’s safer

I have a minor collection of them ... the "black-on-black" one does a surprisingly good job as an accessory matching "LBD, business dinner" attire, too! 😂

For those asking this was on sky news

Israels airstrikes have targeted an ambulance carrying injured civilians towards the Rafah border...
HeidiInTheBigCity · 03/11/2023 19:03

... you know what is really, REALLY getting to me right now?

Remember when, less than a month ago, Al-Ahli hospital was hit and the IDF propaganda machine went all out on "but, it was DEFINITELY not us - and here are some weird audios to prove it! And here are some maps. And images of craters. Or lack thereof ..."

Not even a month later: "yeah, like: whatever: probably us - anyway, everyone is sort of a terrorist or whatevs!"

They are NOT EVEN TRYING anymore at this point! They just do it with impunity! Because they have been getting away with it!

This is ON US, you people! They get to to this because people like Biden assured them of their unconditional support. And our very own Rishi Sunak said, and I quote: "I hope you win"!

This is on US!

There is NO EXCUSE for any of us not to be out there, on the streets, protesting, screaming our lungs out, coping with Suella "just go away already" Braverman calling us "hateful" on TV!

We are not hateful, Suella! YOU are!

There is no excuse for anyone not at work and needing the income or physically/mentally unable to NOT to come out tomorrow!

My disabled, retired mum is coming, too! She is going to be sporting my keffiyeh that I bought at a market stall as a newly political teen!

I think the excusing posts should be ignored. They’re getting ridiculous and distressing to see how anything and everything Israel do killing tens of thousands, bombing hospitals and mosques is excused - even if this particular case is unverified there is plenty that is verified and plenty of history of the Israeli army attacking Palestinians.

Please let us stop responding to the apologists for the war crimes being investigated.

True
But in this instance the IDF have confirmed it was them
