Reading some people’s posts, they are one step away from awarding Netanyahu the Nobel peace prize. Bless him.

@Desertrose2023

"kindly explain how the collective punishment of 2.3 million people isn’t breaking international humanitarian law.

specifically:

withholding water
withholding food
withholding fuel
cutting of internet / telecommunication"

More than happy to explain.

Withholding fuel and the cutting of internet/ telecommunications in a conflict is not breaking international law if the initial purpose is to degrade Hamas military ability to wage a conflict.

Withholding water and food is a lot harder to argue on the grounds of degradation of military ability and would be against international law.

On the collective punishment point, sadly it seems no conflict ever in history has ever been fought without collective punishment occurring whether that be the bombing of Germany in WW2 or the Greeks besieging Troy. It is an inevitable consequence of any conflict.

Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize it was the law according to @eardefender that Israel hasn’t broken. That’s alright then, I thought it was real law you were talking about.

and good to know you think humanity shouldn’t have moved on since the Greek invasion of Troy. Excellent.

tobeornottobe1 · 31/10/2023 19:53

Where are all them pro Israel mumsnetters now, sure as hell got quiet up in here. As this genocide goes on, it becomes more and more apparent what Israel's intentions are.

In which case do you feel that you have received a balanced informative explanation on this thread or would you describe it as a more posts being of the same viewpoint.

Because if it is the latter then you are not forming your own opinion (whichever that maybe) by taking in both sides of the argument.

Zygoma · 31/10/2023 19:52

At what point does this stop? Does Israel keep bombing everywhere whilst people here shrug their shoulders and say, well sadly Hamas was hiding there? Where is the proof?

The Hamas massacre was obscene and unforgivable. Everyone involved has barely started to grieve or come to terms with that. But now we have moved on to another massacre unfolding in front of our eyes. Perpetuated by a democracy.

How can these people sleep at night. From the terrorists of Hamas to Netanyahu and his cronies. I don’t know how religious these folk are, but if they do believe, aren’t they terrified of what awaits them in the afterlife? Slaughter of innocents isn’t a way to get to heaven.

Rightly or wrongly , I am getting flashbacks to Tony Blair and the weapons of mass destruction. A fruitless search which led to countless deaths of innocents. Is this what is going to happen in the search for the leaders of Hamas, who are probably leading a life of luxury, somewhere in a different country right now whilst refugees are murdered and hostages and their families suffer?

I want to see some evidence for where Hamas is actually hiding.

Rosiem2808 · 31/10/2023 19:52

@eardefender

They were supposed to evacuate to the south, however i have heard that Hamas is simply not letting people leave and making them stay put at military targets embedded in Civilian centres to use them as shields.

Yeah.. you heard...

@Desertrose2023 I suppose Israel can argue that Hamas declared war on them. They therefore are within their rights to close their border crossings. They must do this for safety. If Israel supplied electricity and water to Gaza then it would not be reasonable for anyone to expect Israel to continue to supply the enemy forces. If they were supplying their own to Gaza for humanitarian reasons and the government of Gaza declares war on them then it is within their rights to stop that supply. Egypt also has a border with Gaza and i am quite surprised that very very little aid is being brought through and no one is allowed out. I can appreciate Israel saying, we are in a war, no border opening and no supplying the enemy, let Hamas and Egypt sort that out via the Rafah crossing. People wont like that but it is not illegal.

Hamas planned the attack and apparently stockpiled food, water, fuel and medicine for themselves. They knew israel would cut off their supply and close the borders. Again i have to lay the blame for the suffering of gaza squareley on Hamas.

Do you know that the trucks can only go through after Israel has checked them and give the go ahead
Hence why so little has gone through because Israel is now allowing it

Rosiem2808 · 31/10/2023 19:50

i@cewoman

Its horrific, but lets wait until the details are verified before we start chucking around blame - remember the hospital, Isreal was blamed, it turned out to be a missile from within gaza

No it was Benjamin Netanyahu who made that claim. The same guy who is bombing innocents every night while you sleep

I’ve also read that people are just fed up of moving. They’ve lost everything so they refuse to move to a new place because they know they’ll be In danger as well. Not only that international organisation are condemning this behaviour of moving them somewhere else and taking them out of hospitals. You can continue saying your chant of “Hamas has told them not to do xyz” the reality is that this people don’t want to move and don’t have the ways to move to any new place that Israel says and .. at the same time it’s not safe

feralunderclass · 31/10/2023 19:48

@eardefender the UN, Geneva Convention, OHCRC to name a few spineless organizations have repeatedly said that Israel has been in contravention with international law. This was BEFORE 7/10! They need to be tried for war crimes after this.

This is the problem with these threads, they start off with an innocent sounding question "why are Israeli (sic) bombing refugee camps", not in order to provide either information or explanation but simply to whip up the rhetoric on both sides

The thing is I would actually, in all honestly, like to know. I mean it’s a fair question isn’t it?

Parkingt111 · 31/10/2023 19:46

@eardefender and dont talk to me about Israel and war crimes
Israel believes they are above the ICC and have continuously obstructed them from carrying out investigations of war crimes in the past
They don't believe they need to answer to the ICC like most other countries do

The south is not safe, they were told to go there and the IDF bomb them there anyway. There is no safe place for Palestinians.
Also lots of civilians don’t have the means to leave anyway, or have difficult circumstances such as elderly/sick/ injured families.

feralunderclass · 31/10/2023 19:43

Bigminnie1 · 31/10/2023 19:28

@Icefoot she said ALL Israelis hate anyone who isn't Jewish. That's why we are getting angry. I wouldn't say ALL Palestinians are bad because it's not true and it incites hatred and violence. So please give the same courtesy.

What usually is happens is, a poster will say "Hamas want us dead so the residential areas need to be bombed to get Hamas" and then everyone else reminds them that 95% of those killed were civilians, to which the response is "but they elected Hamas, so..." And then someone will remind them that 50% of the dead are babies and the poster will say "their parents shouldn't have had any children" or "but they'd be indoctrinated in school to become Hamas". It's fine to declare "the Arabs" are jihadi terrorists but when one person relates what their friend has said then it's "inciting hatred" and we are told to only speak facts 🤔

Yes and guess what happened to those who moved to the south?
They got bombed there too
What sort of moral democracy tries to justify bombing a refugee camp to achieve its aims of eradicating Hamas
Will the deaths of hundreds of civilians be justified because they got one guy

People have been killed going South, that poor journalist's entire family, for example.

crumblingschools · 31/10/2023 19:41

But they are bombing the South too.

FrippEnos · 31/10/2023 19:40

queenofarles · 31/10/2023 19:31

if IDF claim they know about the underground network , then why don’t they dig underground tunnels and get to Hamas?

It was tried in Vietnam and didn't work then.

eardefender · 31/10/2023 19:40

crumblingschools · 31/10/2023 19:29

@eardefender where are they meant to go? They are in a refugee camp

This is the problem with these threads, they start off with an innocent sounding question "why are Israeli (sic) bombing refugee camps", not in order to provide either information or explanation but simply to whip up the rhetoric on both sides. Add in a dash of whataboutery and conspiracy theories and what you get is further entrenched convictions on both sides that are not interested in either facts or a solution to this crisis.

It's all rather pointless.

FrippEnos · 31/10/2023 19:40

Tinkerbyebye

Because Hamas are hiding within and under, using women and children as a buffer and they don’t care if they are killed

We know that carpet bombing tunnel systems does not work. The USA tried it in Vietnam.
And even if Hamas are hiding under the refugee camp it doesn't absolve Israel of what they are doing.
