To think Israel won't exist much longer?

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

Sorry to hear you’ve been on the receiving end @Parkingt111 - it’s awful. Muslims also are struggling and I have a lot of sympathy there too. Muslim refugees who have fled war zones are simultaneously dealing with the trauma of re-exposure to images on the news of the horrors of war.

But the problem seems wider than a minority of dim racists. I have seen examples on this board, where people say ‘Jewish’ when they should make the effort to use more accurate language. Words matter.

Yes please call it out.

I agree
Words do matter
I think it's our collective responsibility to call out people who do this regardless of our stance on the war

So why is antisemitic hate crime up 1350% since the conflict escalated? Why have Jewish children in London who have zero to do with it had their education disrupted? Why are Jewish people, some of whom are very pro Palestinian and have never even set foot in Israel, fearful? Feeling isolated?

Unfortunately there are always repercussions for people on the ground based on them belonging to the same group as the 'perpetrators' . Muslims are also facing severe repercussions, I think at least 4 Muslims have been stabbed to death now (one a young child) in the West and the motive was linked to the conflict. During COVID the attacks on East Asians in the UK became very aggressive and hostile, there were reports across student unions that many university students were afraid to leave their accommodation.

Because unfortunately there are many racist idiots who fail to make that distinction, racists generally are not always the brightest of people and we should all strongly condemn all forms of anti semitism

The same happened to many muslims after 9/11
Also racist idiots
I say this as someone who has been on the recieving end of many unfortunate incidents of Islamophobia
It was only a few months ago that I was called a terrorist in a asda parking lot so its not something that I expect to never encounter again either

Israeli use of white phosphorus
I'm pretty sure it was someone on here or another thread who was trying to convince us that white phosphorus was not used because her DH had analysed the photos and come to that conclusion
Well if you are still on here then please show him this

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 09:07

@happyl if you are Israeli then I appreciate it can't be nice to come on here and see people criticising your country
You must remember that this is not a criticism of Jewish people or Israeli citizens
This is the criticism of the actions of the Israeli government who consider themselves a 'democracy' yet are acting far from it and we will continue to highlight this

Zzizzisnotzeproblem · 02/11/2023 08:54

Military tactics that involve bombing trapped civilian populations aren’t admirable or acceptable in any way. It is possible for most people to hate your actions without hating your religion or race.

intriguing that people are utterly obsessed with the military tactics and strategy in removing Hamas and yet don't give a shit about the
many many other world conflicts around the world. What separates them? Why could that be? Why the intense hatred for Israel (Jews)?
Jews don't count, as David Baddiel's book title states.

There are some posters here who are utterly obsessed with any criticism of a government's warfare policy being synonymous with "a hatred of Jews" or "Jew haters". It just sounds like a lazy attempt now to deflect, close discussion and prevent criticism or outrage towards severe violations of human rights. Please report any posts you suspect are antisemitic but stop flinging the "Jew hatred" accusation.

and @feralunderclass and others clearly don't have any history or
knowledge of the region when they continually pile in saying that Israel is the aggressor. fgs, do some reading

I expect it’s because mass bombing of trapped women and children needs a separate board on a site primarily designed for mothers to share their thoughts. Why do Israelis insist on treating Palestinian's as lesser beings? It’s an unthinkable and unacceptable way to behave and has been for a very long time.

is there a "conflict in Europe" board? If not, why not? Why are people so keen to have an entire board designed fo criticise a nation responding to a terror attack as huge and far reaching as 9-11? Why are people so keen to support a terrorist regime? Useful idiots, for sure.

I'm sure there was a board for Ukraine? Every other thread at the time was about the conflict.
Why are people like you so keen not to discuss this "nation responding to a terror attack?". Because it's much easier to ignore the fact that Israel is a state which has constantly deprived the Palestinians of human rights, committed murder, torture, rape in the name of the "safety" of that state and is now committing "textbook genocide" and multiple civil organizations are calling for it to be tried for war crimes against civilians.

Nonsense anyone who attacks children and other vulnerable members of society is revolting.

DownNative · 02/11/2023 00:28

A reminder that using civilians and civilian infrastructure as a shield against attack does NOT mean a military cannot target the object.

If using civilians and civilian infrastructure as shields actually granted immunity from attack, this would place an undue burden on ALL Sovereign States seeking to defend their territory and civilians from terrorist groups such as Hamas. Terrorist groups would have an obvious advantage.

As long as a military advantage is there, its legitimate to attack.

Remember with terrorist groups like Hamas there is actually no other choice. They certainly can't be left intact as they'll never stop attacking Israel.

Remember that Hamas' Use Of Human Shields In Gaza is intended to work on people emotionally in their favour. This is an example of terrorist propaganda and such groups communicate via gruesome images followed by an intense campaign of DARVO across media publications.

SECTIONS OF AL QUDS HOSPITAL HAVE JUST BEEN DAMAGED BY STRIKES

this is Inhumane
They have said many times they have nowhere to go
They have patients in intensive care
THIS IS A WAR CRIME

Shame on all of those who try to justify the bombing of a hospital

Again, here you declare something as a war crime.

Yet Article 19 of the Geneva Convention is quite clear that civilian hospitals lose civilian protection when they're used for something other than their intended purpose.

You cannot redefine what a war crime is according to your liking nor can such crimes be determined at this point in the conflict.

Because that "nation" already had a nation living there! To make ridiculous statements like this is only evidence of the attempt to dehistorisize and dehumanise the lives of Palestinian people (of all religions).
The expectation that the Palestinians should be happy that 78% of their land was taken is so totally bizarre and devoid of reasoning. I have challenged any poster who makes these silly statements and asked them if they would give up their houses for people across the world who were historically persecuted, and strangely enough they said "no". But oddly they expect the Palestinians to up sticks and merrily leave 🤔. It's all fine when it doesn't personally affect you.
The reality is if you support Israel in it's policy then you have to agree to the eradication, expulsion and ethnic cleansing of non Jewish people.

Using private civilian homes to build an analogy is not a good idea when it comes to major issues such as partition of nations.

Your example is a false or weak analogy fallacy.

Partition is a last resort when two peoples within the same defined area of land cannot agree on who is the rightful owner, which identity it should take and who should govern the land.

The UN voted for partition. Palestinian leaderships have since rejected every single peace deal tabled over 75 years as their aim is a single Palestinian Arab State with an Islamic foundation as with other Arab World States. However, Palestinian President Abbas admitted in 2011 it was a mistake for them to reject the UN deal. Clinton warned Arafat he was leading Palestinians AND the region to catastrophe. And so it has come to pass.

You cannot spend 75 years rejecting all deals because you WILL run out of road, especially when you've failed in 75 years to have any meaningful power, politically and/or militarily. Let's be clear....Arab States tried dealing with Israel via military power and failed each time.

Hence, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman was so frustrated with Palestinian leaders in yet another rejection that he told them they had to accept the deal or shut up since they don't possess the necessary power to get exactly what they want which is the elimination of the State of Israel.

Palestinians have been failed by their own leaders for 75 years. Ask yourself what do Palestinian leaders get out of constant rejections of various deals?

Power and money are two obvious ones. They require perpetual victimhood to keep Palestinians right where they are, to keep the conflict simmering yet not boiling over and their own positions intact. This is what is really being supported in backing the Palestinians in reality - just more of the same exploitation of Palestinians by Palestinian leaders who've realised money & power will keep coming courtesy of outsiders who don't really understand the complexities of the region.

A single joint State for both is amongst the least popular options as far as Israelis and Palestinians are concerned. The two State solution is the only show in town.

You need to read that again because they didn't actually say that was a war crime.

Saying something could be is definitely not the same thing as saying something is.

Just like how "I eat what I see" doesn't mean the same thing as "I see what I eat".

And finally calling the attack for what it is
A war crime

Edit: horrific attack by Israel of bombing a refugee camp which resulted In the death of many civilians including children could be considered a war crime
