Any information about the demonstrations being held today, Saturday 28 October?

The march was arranged by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. They campaign for freedom, justice & equality for Palestinians and have done for a long time. The ‘Free Palestine’ chant refers to freeing Palestinians from their oppression, apartheid, and displacement, however as was clear from today’s speeches, they were very much calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Yes, I watched a Jewish mum being interviewed on channel 4 this evening, her two children are being held hostage 😞 she desperately wants a ceasefire and negotiations.

I think quite a few of the hostages' families would also like a ceasefire, and to focus on returning their loved ones. I believe the aim of the march today was to call for a ceasefire.

@Worriedmum40284 the point of view of people who chant "free Palestine" is that Israel, the only Jewish state in the world, shouldn't exist. They are calling for the destruction of Israel, and we all know what that means.

The people who rip down posters of kidnapped and murdered Israeli children think that they deserved it and just don't care what happened to them

I was in London for another reason today and came across the march, I hadn't heard about it before.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm trying to learn more about the current situation. The march seemed to mainly be calls to free Palestine as opposed to cease fire and general peace (although I did see both) - is that correct?

After the march had finished, I noticed a number of posters showing children that had horrifically been killed in the conflict. Someone in front of me was tearing these down but I couldn't understand to what end, or what their point of view could be.

All very emotive and has highlighted my ignorance to me and privilege for the safety I take for granted, hence me looking into the situation more.

You should not feel any hate, this whole issue is emotive and people are expressing their opinions and exercising freedom of expression. Please understand this is not personally aimed at you. You should not feel any hostility, sorry if you do.

I will not try to minimise your fear and feeling of vulnerability. But palestinians who are being bombed, restricted or no access to water food , electricity, fuel and now no contact with the world also have my sympathy. In West Bank, settlers are attacking palestinians. Yes, ofcourse you feel vulnerable and concerned but you are protected and have security and are able to express your fears, others are not so fortunate.

I would imagine the population of Gaza just want peace and a worldwide supported 2 state solution could achieve that.

Like most of the people marching I can only imagine or hear through the media what the reality of life in Israel and Gaza is. The reality of every house having a safe room that turned out not to be safe on Oct7th, or of living with the mafia like HAMAS controlling your life and your land with no thought to their people.

There are wicked manipulators fuelling this conflict and they need to be stopped not encouraged.

Jewish people are scared by the hate that they feel towards them here, they've seen this before.

Perhaps they could, but asking a population and it’s supporters to want normalcy with a population who think it had a God given right to take over, steal and occupy the land that they had lived on peacefully for generations is a pretty big ask.

I think the Israeli government would need to stop destroying said state first. They also rejected a truce in between their ever more crazed ramblings at the UN.

To prevent another Jewish genocide, perhaps they could march for a 2 state solution that allows the state of Israel to exist in peace with it's neighbours.

They are not marching for a ceasefire. They are marching for an end to Israel’s illegal occupation and theft of Palestinian land and the current genocide they are inflicting on Gaza. There’s quite a difference.

That's not what the Times article says at all. It says: "Tehran is trying to heighten tensions at rallies over Israel's bombing of Gaza. " [the British security source said]
"the main groups organising the protests were not linked to Iran but that the activity of the regime was more on the fringes."

It makes a big difference whether Iran is orchestrating the protests or is living in hope of trying to hijack them somehow. Obviously it will try to use them, that should be expected, but it shouldn't deter people from making their point that war crimes must not be committed
