Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people[a] in whole or in part. In 1948, the United Nations Genocide Convention defined genocide as any of five "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". These five acts were: killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. Victims are targeted because of their real or perceived membership of a group, not randomly.[1][2] Wikipedia

Reservist Major General Giora Eiland told Israeli media on Monday that Israel’s actions in “creating a severe humanitarian crisis is a necessary means to achieve the goal. Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist.”

Oxfam says starvation is being used as a weapon of war against civilians in Gaza, adding just two percent of usual food has been delivered to the enclave since Israel’s “total siege”.

Gaza death toll rises to 6,500, including Al Jazeera correspondent’s family

Al Jazeera Arabic’s Wael Dahdouh’s wife, son and daughter among family members killed after home hit.

Thank you for the links, really appreciate it. It's always good to see other points of views and learn more about this subject but I think you are reading my comments with prejudice, you think I said laziness when I never saud that. What I said is gazans they deserve better government, there is huge unemployment and hamas instead of using foreign aid to create employment they use that aid in buying arms. I never said were lazy, lots of palestinian in uk who study/work.. what I said their government don't care about them.

You're welcome. I am usually really good at reading tones but if you say it wasn't your intention I accept that I might have been mistaken.

Here's two links related to what you were talking about earlier.

It is well documented that Hezbollah have been firing anti tank middles and rockets into northern Israel from Lebanon.

But the question. Wasn’t about Lebanon. It was about why are people being killed in West Bank if there is no Hamas there. Totally different places

orangegato · 25/10/2023 20:25

Maybe release the hostages? Why would Israel give up without getting what they came for. Why would they leave now?

Hamas knew what would happen when they took hostages.

They offered to release hostages in exchange for palestinian ones

Wow, the amount of misinformation and fake news emanating from some posters trying to justify the genocide! Please stop it. You know that you are not even convinced yourselves with what you're trying to convince others. The time of the monopoly of the mass media is over. The peoples of the world can see by themselves what's truly happening.

"If the international media is objective, it serves Hamas" Brazen!

@bness i know. I can’t believe the casual lies and misinformation just bring thrown out. Unfortunately for posters like @Fordian we live in an age where several different media outlets are showing the various sides to this conflict. Back in the 90’s and before that we’d be limited to two news channels pushing our governments version of events. Social media has at least been beneficial in this regard.

Oh please @Fordian where do I even start with lies and misinformation in your post. This is exhausting. Just give it up 🙈

The casual lies and twisted (il)logic would be funny if it wasn't in effect endorsing the brutal murder and maiming of thousands of children as we type.

Isn’t hezbollah in Líbano rather than West Bank ?

They are clutching at straws to defend genocide.

Chaiandkaafee · 28/10/2023 21:47

@WomanOfTheWoods you clearly haven’t seen the YouTube ads then plastered all over social media of the Israeli hostages? Shame.

@DinkyDaisy - Hezbollah? Who are also shelling Israel? Did you know that?

The greatest victory for Gaza is the neutralisation of Hamas. Gazans' biggest enemy are their Qatar based Hamas leaders.

Gazans could be living prosperous, peaceful lives alongside Israel (providing the prosperity 😉) by now, but they are kept in a state of subjugated victimhood by others, using them as proxies in others' wars. This one was financed by Iranians, sleeping peacefully in their beds, tonight.

Hamas won an election in 2006. And have not allowed another since. In the west, we'd call that a dictatorship.

How come Palestinians in the West Bank, where there is no Hamas, don't live peacefully? They can wake up one day to have their towns destroyed and settlers from any random country in the world waving guns and taking their homes because they can, and be killed, or imprisoned in an apartheid legal system? 2023 was one of the worst years for this, if you look at news beyond the usual superficial headlines.

Please.

WomanOfTheWoods · 28/10/2023 21:37

You could see the Gazan government had their social media propaganda arranged in advance of October the 7th. It was all over TikTok within hours. Didn’t see much from Israel for a few days.

Note that the Israelis don’t seem to plaster pictures of their dead over all SM, they obviously believe their dead deserve dignity. The ghouls wanting pics of the victims of the atrocities to ‘prove’ it happened are disgusting. Would they want pictures of their raped, burnt, mutilated, headless relatives or friends beamed around the world for other sick bastards to crow over?

Note to the unaware: Israelis are 'brown', too.

Fordian · 28/10/2023 21:24

I've read/skimmed/read.

This is my take. Oct 7 was just another audacious attack on Israel. Hamas were expecting the usual resistance, but, due to recent political upheavals in Israel, didn't encounter it.

Thus they ran amok. Took hostages, did 'the other one-to-one stuff'. 😞 I imagine even Hamas high command went 'Oh shit!'

This gave Israel an unexpected opening. In the undeniably knowledge that Hamas DO have military commands under hospitals and schools; and their leadership is based in Qatar.

Israel know no one wants Palestinian refugees. That the Palestinians have been offered endless peace deals that their outside proxies have told, or persuaded them to reject.

Hamas brought this upon Gaza.

@WomanOfTheWoods

Or was the invasion into another country and the horrific mutilation, murder, torture, rape, setting on fire and kidnapping of over a thousand civilians including babies while celebrating it for the whole world to see just a act of legitimate protest?

It was horrific and horrible and all the bad words in the dictionary and i have the moral strength to condemn it.

The question is Do you have the moral rectitude to condemn Israel for starving gazans and killing children in an equally horrible way? Or do we now have to race to the bottom and decide which is a more horrific way for a child to die?

And GOSH comparison sounded ridiculous because it was. Not because UK government doesnt store ammunition under hospitals but because no government that is not morally bankrupt bombs hospitals to kill terrorists and describes children as collateral damage.

WomanOfTheWoods · 28/10/2023 21:08

@Gardenowl

God forbid if there were any terrorists hiding under GOSH which is quite possible since we have an extensive tube network; will UK even consider carrying out any activity endangering GOSH leave alone bombing it?
**
It is the same for any building housing civilians and children in any country.

What a ridiculous comparison! For one the UK would hardly bomb it’s own people, GOSH is part of the UK you know, and two do you think the NHS would allow terrorists who wanted to kill civilians to have their HQ there? Does the UK have a habit of deliberately storing rockets and placing strategic command posts in civilian areas including schools, hospitals and residential buildings? Does any civilised country?

The government of Gaza does and it’s well documented. Funnily enough they specifically do this so when Israel try to destroy their weaponry, which is one of the first things an opposing side does in any war so they can’t continue firing it at them, they can scream about Israel killing civilians.

The idiots sitting in a the comfort of a safe country who’s Government protects them, and even allows them to protest and stand on the side of these monstrous terrorists say ‘You can’t do that, you must have magic powers to only pick out actual government terrorists camouflaged among thousands of civilians, a majority of whom support them, and actually you can’t hurt them either, you must let them have free entry into your country so they can continue their atrocities while we continue giving them aid so they can buy more armoury to kill your citizens, you deserve it because you took their land, even though it may not have been their’s in the first place!’

What the government of Gaza did against Israel on the 7th October was an act of war was it not?

Or was the invasion into another country and the horrific mutilation, murder, torture, rape, setting on fire and kidnapping of over a thousand civilians including babies while celebrating it for the whole world to see just a act of legitimate protest?

6500 dead says who? Hamas? How can we trust them when they are a terrorist group?

Interesting. Do you trust the word of the Israeli Government then? Extreme right wingers like Netanyahu and Ben Gvir? Who are known and proven liars? Like when they used white phosphorous in 2008-2009, documented and proven by more than one international institution, but denied it until they couldn't anymore. Don't bother asking me for the proof - do some leg work yourself, there is plenty available. Ben Gvir who has purchased weapons and armed 'civilians' in the last few days with guns to use against Gazan peoples - one of whose recipients was shown, clearly, on no less than the BBC 10 o'clock news last night, calling those Gazans 'animals' and 'inhuman'. I imagine last night's BBC news is readily available on iPlayer if you're unsure about its veracity.

Alohapotato · 28/10/2023 20:47

When did I say I justify killing innocent civils? Read again my posts, I always talked about hamas, never about non terrorist gazans...

I've seen in this post and other posts justifying the attack on the 7th of October because of the conflict. Why is it OK to minimise jewish people dying or being kidnapped?

Nothing justifies civils dying ( gazans or Israeli)

Gardenowl · 28/10/2023 20:42

Alohapotato · 28/10/2023 20:29

you are twisting my words, what I say is you have freedom under Netanyahu goverment but not under Hamas goverment. I never said I thought slavery was ok and I would not live under a goverment who thinks is ok.
and as I said before I'm not Jewish and I'm not Israeli so everything I say is from my point of view, I never lived there but it breaks my heart to see so much antisemitism that people support a terrorist group like hamas

do you remember ISIS? They thought it was ok to have yadizis slaves and Hamas or Islamic Jihad are not much different to ISIS. I never heard of Netanyahu goverment having slaves.

This is not called twisting words this is called reasoning. It was an example of what your reasoning would look like during the civil war.

You were not able to extrapolate your thinking based on your points of reference so i did it for you to show how horrible it was.

Having a different way of living from yours is never a good argument for killing people regardless of who it is coming from.

And yes what happened to Yazidis was horrible, what happened and is happening to Rohingyas is beyond horrible and what happened to Yemenis is horrible too.

And none of that justifies what Israel is doing and you are just justifyinf it because they have the same way of living as you.

Alohapotato · 28/10/2023 20:29

Gardenowl · 28/10/2023 20:17

Ah, i really really want to avoid personal comments but your powers of reasoning leave much to be desired. So basically if someone doesn't have the same way of living they are fair game? That is such a dangerous argument. If you were living before or during the American civil war then slavery would be just right because it was a way of life and who could ever think of living in those African nations?

So you could think of living in America since it has the same values as UK so they must be right in enslaving all those aafricans because their way of life and ofcourse appearance was different than yours?

Shame on you. At least dont hide behind niceties and dont fool yourself about your true nature

If Netanyahu is a fascist what it is hamas?
I'm not Jewish but I could live in Israel, I could be gay, I could be a single mum or different faith ( Muslim or Christian)etc under Netanyahu government. I do not like him but I would not be able to live in Gaza as single mum by choice, as gay,as different faith (jew) etc.. so I understand why not to defend Netanyahu but why to defend hamas government?

To me israelians are much more closer to European values ( freedom of faith, freedom of love etc) and that's why I'm so against terrorist groups as hamas attacking democrat countries because they ho against of what I believe.

why do you have to choose whether you love more mum or dad ? Why can’t it be that you don’t love any of them ? So no I couldn’t live In Gaza as a single mum but nor could I support him for killing mums in the nearby country either.
and this is not about only October 7. These war has been happening for decades where thousands of Palestinians have been killed. In 2014 20k were killed by Israel forces. In 2023 so far 7k in only 20 days
