Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people[a] in whole or in part. In 1948, the United Nations Genocide Convention defined genocide as any of five "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". These five acts were: killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. Victims are targeted because of their real or perceived membership of a group, not randomly.[1][2] Wikipedia

Reservist Major General Giora Eiland told Israeli media on Monday that Israel’s actions in “creating a severe humanitarian crisis is a necessary means to achieve the goal. Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist.”

Oxfam says starvation is being used as a weapon of war against civilians in Gaza, adding just two percent of usual food has been delivered to the enclave since Israel’s “total siege”.

Gaza death toll rises to 6,500, including Al Jazeera correspondent’s family

Al Jazeera Arabic’s Wael Dahdouh’s wife, son and daughter among family members killed after home hit.

Not sure where to put this as it’s happened in USA. 3 teenagers shot yesterday

It looks like the media are trying to play it down. Usually things like that are breaking news. Anyway, I hope they'll be fine. It is said the injuries are not fatal.

A month ago:

They did it, didn't they?
They always say it openly, brazenly, why the world doesn't listen? Why are Palestinians still being exterminated in the most savage inhuman ways by the cowardly genociders?

Hamas did not value human life. They would have suffered major casualties on Israeli soil on October 7th.
Hamas are in Israel. It would be naive to think otherwise.

Several days after 7/10 the IDF reported that they had finally caught up with the last of the Hamas rampagers still on the lose in Israel and had killed 1500 of them - and maybe took some back for a little light torture

I'm inclined to agree with you that there are likely Hamas 'sleeper agents' living quietly in Israel providing intelligence which is a horrible thing for Israelis to live with

One of the young men who was killed at the music festival was working there and according to his mother wasn't told the exact venue until 2 hours before it started [same for the partygoers] - that being so someone 'in the know' must have told Hamas or they would have paraglided into the wrong place. That to me is so horribly sinister and frightening

James O'Brien probes caller Stuart over the 'legitimacy' of Israel's bombing of Gaza after he cited civilian casualties as 'collateral damage', while also questioning whether the Israelis would be pursuing the same tactics if Hamas were hiding in Israel.

@Weddingpuzzle

"What if Hamas were hiding in Israel? There are approximately 25,000 Hamas members. What if they were hiding in Israel, would you support Netanyahu's response to October 7th and military policy then?"

+++

If Hamas were hiding in Israel and they are their hiding was supported by the local population (regardless of whether they were Israeli or Palestinian) then I would expect the military response would be similar. Just the same as if you had a terrorist organisation that launched attacks against say Slough and were based in say Basingstoke that were supported by the local residents.

If however they were not supported by the local population then they would be easier to identify, for example locals saying the bad guys are over there.

It wouldnt be similar though. Hamas attacked inside isreal with the mass slaughter and distruction of their own as an 'acceptable' conceqence. It would never happen.

Sorry but how did you get to that conclusion ... are we reading different posts.

I misread your post. I apologise, and I don't disagree with your statement now that I've reread it.

Hamas need to go and so do the illegal settlers who keep stealing innocent families homes.

Are you suggesting Hamas carry out further atrocities?

@Dinkydaisy1 I am appealing to you.... you did see the footage of the Hamas gunman who stole that ladies phone after shooting her daughter through the head? Her husband missing? Telling his mother he had murdered 14 Jews?

What do you think will happen if there is a ceasefire? Hamas will regroup and Hamas need removing once and for all.

Both sides need to reconcile but Hamas need to go.

Hamas need to go and so do the illegal settlers who keep stealing innocent families homes. And maybe stop dropping illegal white phosphorus bombs on families and hospitals.

Stomacharmeleon · 30/10/2023 21:11

@Weddingpuzzle I believe they are in Israel and Lebanon and Qatar and many other countries (uk?) I hope mossad go after them like they did post 1972. And bring them to trial.
I believe they should be rooted out particularly the hierarchy who make billions from Gaza's misery. I do not believe under any circumstances they will stop nor do I think they want a peaceful solution. I do not believe they want the best for the people of Gaza. Or for Israel to survive.
If you mean bombing I believe it's quite unique to this situation. Very small area with very large population (not genocide by definition) whose terrorist government hide akin to guerrilla war fare eg Vietnam. I believe it is targeted bombing as Israel has the capability to wipe Gaza out in 24 hours. They use civilians as human shields and hide underneath and on top of hospitals, schools etc.
I know this has been gone over a hundred times so sorry if it's not the answer you want. I wanted to give a considered response rather than knee jerk.

Weddingpuzzle · 30/10/2023 20:19

@1Dayatatime thanks for your response and your honesty. I don't want to put words in your mouth so can you clarify that you agree if Palestinians were pointing out/somehow presented 25k Hamas terrorists tomorrow at the Israel border the bombing campaign/ground invasion/occupation would stop?

I completely agree along with basing the discussion on facts. Otherwise it simply turns into a pointless rant of entrenched convictions - I'm right, no I'm right, well your facts are fake no yours are fake followed by a whole lot of whataboutery

Weddingpuzzle · 30/10/2023 19:51

@Stomacharmeleon I'll ask you a question that was asked on LBC radio today as it is a good question and I'm interested what someone who clearly feels very emotional and upset by what happened on October 7th feels about it.

Happy to have a civil conversation about this. There has been a lot posted on these threads this week about the history of the region and the various issues. I don't condone Hamas, nor the Israeli government, but any productive conversation needs to start with an openness to listen and understand the ground realities outside of media headlines and status quo narratives.
