Justifying the rape of women

Something I keep coming back to.. for the people whose sympathies lie with the Palestinians and think an eye for an eye and that Hamas have been pushed to act the way they have, how do you justify the brutal rape of women by Hamas?

This thread suggests Palestinians raped Jews when there is no independent proof.

EsmaCannonball · 26/10/2023 16:09

I guess it's fortunate that the videos were livestreamed or posted by Hamas themselves on the day of the attack. If any manipulation was done, it would have been done by them and I suspect they didn't have room on their motorbikes for tech guys as well as gang-rapists, toddler-torturers and granny-shooters.

Luckydip1 · 26/10/2023 16:06

We also do not know for a fact that there were any beheadings a bit like we don't know for a fact that Israelis bombed the hospital in Gaza.

Maireas · 26/10/2023 16:06

I agree, @armchairactivist1 .
Some posts are really just beyond the pale.

armchairactivist1 · 26/10/2023 16:04

I think the derailment here proves my point. The natural response should surely be how terrible for anyone to do this to another human being, whether the victim be Palestinian or Israeli but some people's response is to question if it even happened. This is what I was referring to when I said about glossing over, which means to avoid considering something which is exactly what you're doing here by questioning if it even happened

The number 40 was the number of dead children (infants/under 2s actually), it was not chosen at random. But you're right, it makes all the difference if we know exactly how many were beheaded. We wouldn't want to accidentally imply that they were all killed with unimaginable savagery, that would be so unfair and inflammatory.

I thought British media outlets have said they are still investigating this? ...

Yes, it's very distressing to see the mutual hatred.

Maybe part of the problem is that internet logarithms are very clever at predicting what we might want to watch next. It's definitely war by social media, on top of everything else, and it's possible to get trapped in an echo chamber.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of the posters being taken down in London. I'm not sure what purpose they serve being posted around Tube stations anyway, it's not like we're going to bump into one of the hostages at St Pancras Station...? (I wish it was so simple!) I can understand pro-Palestine folk feeling it's just goady. But again, maybe I'm missing something.

Anyway I will step away from the keyboard!!!!!!!

Luckydip1 · 26/10/2023 15:42

How do they justify bombing the hospital in Gaza? Oh I forgot they deny it.

Itsaharddlife · 26/10/2023 15:41

"Re the video I shared, I just can't see similar scales of public celebration relating to Gaza being under attack. Have I missed something? This was New York. And the timing of it, right after 7 Oct. I just don't get it...? Why this, why now?"

I have seen a few videos of celebrations on Israel's side too. Some recent some old. A recent one was them chanting that gaza is a cemetery etc. I wish I knew how to attach the video, I think YouTube has taken it down once already.
Either way it's all disgusting and frankly terrifying that there could be so much hate towards another person.
I've just seen another report about more people taking down posters of hostages. Like wtf was the purpose of that? How can you expect anyone to feel sympathy for your cause if you can't do the same.

Alcemeg · 26/10/2023 15:37

Itsaharddlife · 26/10/2023 15:24

You also clearly said it is understandable for isreal to celebrate deaths in private.

"Can you explain it to me, please? Given that it's "only Hamas" posing a real threat to Israelis?"

What??? Who are you quoting. Are you seriously asking me to explain why there's fcked up people in the world who will support and celebrate atrocities? Why should I do that? Can you explain why israelis are OK to chant "death to arabs" and "burn your villages" on their celebrations?
Also a few lunatics supporting hamas shouldn't justify what Israel is doing which is genocide. Nothing justifies the murder of innocent babies.

On that note, some of the earlier posts I skimmed past, just ridiculous. I get that there were reports about beheaded babies etc which were not confirmed. But putting that issue aside, there were still innocent children murdered. Why do we need to debate how they were killed. Isn't it bad enough that they were killed in the first place that we now need to debate in what manner they suffered.

Edited

I also said, at least twice, that it was only natural for Gazans to feel the same way. That's human nature.

Completely agree with you about it being somewhat beside the point to debate precisely how babies lose their heads. I said the same earlier.

Alcemeg · 26/10/2023 14:45

Oh don't be so daft. I've clearly said that it's natural for both sides to feel antagonism towards the other.

What doesn't seem natural to me is the open celebration of this level of barbaric atrocity, not just in Gaza but around the world. WTAF is that about...?!

Itsaharddlife · 26/10/2023 14:41

"Speaking for myself, even if I had personally suffered at the hands of Israel, I'd disown anyone who could act with that level of sickening barbarity.

Clearly, many folk feel differently."

You clearly seem to think it's only one side that celebrates. I've already given you proof that israelis have celebrated over many years at the deaths of Palestinians.
You could've simply said anyone celebrating is sick but you seem to believe as long as the Israelis do it in private it's ok. Just to clarify they don't do it in private either. There's several videos of them making large celebrations at gaza being bombed over the years. Stop expecting one side to behave in a better way, when you have the audacity to excuse the others for doing the same.

Do you mean Palestinians, or do you mean Hamas? There is a difference. Just as there is a difference between Israelis and the IDF.

I think we've got the wrong end of each other's stick here somehow, not sure how! If you can be arsed reading my other posts, I hope they'll reassure you that's not what I meant. Flowers

...or maybe I'm just shit at expressing myself 😜
What I mean is that if I were a Gazan parent whose child had been killed by an Israeli, if a missile landed in Israel I don't think I'd be thinking "Oh dear, I do hope no one was hurt." And vice versa...

Whose child did the people murdered in the massacre kill exactly?

And yes, I do t think would ever celebrate children being brutally killed even if that had happened to my own. It doesn't make me an angel, just not completely fucking depraved.

Well, congratulations on securing the moral high ground! 😇

Big respect to you for knowing that if your child had been killed by XYZ, you'd feel deep humanitarian sorrow if something bad happened to XYZ.

Hopefully we'll never be put to that test 💔

As a compassionate human being, I can totally understand why someone who has been brutalised by another culture might be pleased to hear bad news about the other side. In private!

As a compassionate human being, I thibk that anyone celebrating the mass murder or civilians including children I'm under any circumstances is a monster.

Well, congratulations on securing the moral high ground! 😇
